My parents bought their 8 kids one back to school outfit back in the 80's. Most of us opted for Levi's 501 Jeans. The word among the cool kids in LA was that, if you truly wanted them to hug your body, you needed to sit in in the bath tub commando, so they would 'shrink to fit.'
One of my uncles was a consultant at the jeans factories in Brownsville and El Paso when I was a little kid and wearing little boys' sizes. He'd usually send me a couple of pairs of jeans every August for the upcoming school year. Otherwise, my jeans came from the company store where most of my family worked making denim, or J.C. Penney. My first time having a pair of Levi's, or any "big boy" jeans, was entering 8th grade in the late summer of 1969. Levi's became my go-to jeans and my primary fashion house then - 54 years ago.
I went to a school that didn’t allow Levi’s or jeans in general. Now as an adult I found a job that I have been working for 10 years again jeans and Levi’s are prohibited. Sucks because I love jeans.
