  • Follow Mikael and Håkan back to the roots and Swedish River Mörrum. Perfect conditions and fish that are taking hard!
    Mörrum has changed from being full of hatched fish through restoring and the dam removal. The big wild salmon and sea trout now have a better chance to thrive than in a very, very long time.

    Beautiful river! No hatchery fish. The same happened here on the St-Anne River on the Gaspé peninsula, Canada. We went from 8-10 lbs hatchery fish till around 1994 to the wild Ste-Anne genome...similar to the Cascapédia fish. Now we are catching and releasing wild salmon in the 20 to 40 lbs range..
    And bad tempered.

    Hi! In Finland we have big problem of the hydro power that has killed like over 95% of our salmon rivers. I think you know the mighty river Kemijoki or have heard of it.. The best river by far on the whole world when it was shining.. watershed is the largerst in Europe I think. Now people are dreaming that we can open the river from the hydropower / or build fake rivers past the walls so the fish could go upstream. Do you have any tips that we could do more than just spread the word out? Problem is the company behind the hydropower. Government owns part of the company also. It would be great if you do some videos of the mighty rivers in Europe / Scandinavia / Whole world were is hydro power and explain to people why they are today old school and not usefull. Keep up the good work doing your videos!

    One comment I would say though is you should have a net, that fish would have been unhooked and returned far quicker with a net, get them back ASAP.

    I notice you release all your fish. Are you ever allowed to keep one for eating? Is it ethical where you fish to keep one? Here in Canada it is often the case that hatchery fish are kept and wild fish are released.

    Beautiful fresh run salmon, congratulations!! However, beats me time and time again, seeing people that obviously prefer to drill the fish using their right hand and than change hands to reel line back in, because the handle of their reel is on the right side . Why not fish with a left hand reel handle?....Also in the US you even see fisherman doing this with a spinning rod, casting with their right hand, overtaking with their left and start reeling their lure back in...?? Maybe I missed something?

    • @frodinflies
      @frodinflies  4 года назад +1

      haha... well i think its most an old habit... but when fishing the fly i don't want the handle against my body...

    • @wonderwatch2239
      @wonderwatch2239 4 года назад +1

      Yes me to. I treid switching my handle to the right, and it was ok when fishing, but when hooked up to a salmon, it gets all confused, and with my single hand rod, my left arm was no good, all weak and awkward.. switched back right after that experience 😷😂

    • @KS-dm9yb
      @KS-dm9yb 3 года назад

      I have it on the right side, cause I can’t reel with my left hand, no matter how much I try.

    I have a completely different view on hatcheries, without them many rivers in the UK and Ireland simply would have no salmon runs now, or such low numbers the rivers would not attract enough paying anglers to make the systems financially viable to beat owners, ghillies and hotels etc. If a hatchery is run properly, with care then I feel they can be a powerful tool in preserving the genetics of a river, it is only when stocks become too low and they have to bring in fish from outside rivers thag I feel they are wrong, we need more salmon for the young generation, without numbers of fish to be caught the sport will die. When worked in together with habitat and water quality improvement and a sensible stance on predation, I feel that is our best chance to save the fish we love.

    Shut the hatchery shut the fish farms, stop screwing up the rivers let it be natural and you will have LOTS of fish. Tampering with everything is the problem. Look at Scotland, they had fabulous sea trout and salmon and now i5 is nothing like it used to be especially the sea trout in Loch Maree.
