It's got almost everything needed for that retro feel: a funk bass line, a big violin section, a guitar playing through a Crybaby wah pedal and properly nuanced lead and background vocals! The only thing missing was a flute and flugelhorn on countermelody like Boz Skaggs had in his 1976 hit "Lowdown". In 2005 Jamiroquai came to Australia, i took my beloved Grandmother Joan as she liked quite a few of their songs. She started going nuts when Canned Heat came on, all the hot girls started dancing with her even Jay Kay was impressed was such a memorable concert!

It was the 90's and beginning 2000's lot of things died since, there was a lot of Disco/Funk reintroduction, a notable one was Daft Punk and the house, nu-disco scene. It was also the time of the Techno-utopia and Y2k, and consumerism, but also of the "everything for kids" that started in the 80's and explode in the 90's... something that die out after the burst of the internet bubble and the 9/11 that destroyed utopism with the army and wrong side of patriotism imagery, that took more and more place with time. Lot of new techs where introduce to the mass, like portable phones by nokia ericson alcatel etc, internet, 3D game consoles with better way to store stories, games, new music genre and fusion etc (like jami)
Great song, classic video. Sad that Jay Kay and the rest of Jamiroquai never got the recognition they deserved in the states. At least not till Napoleon Dynamite came out...lol Even so, I was a fan long before that. I have every album up to Funk Odyssey but I may have to start hunting up the rest because I've recently started to listen to them again after a bit of a hiatus...nice to rediscover an old favorite. :-D

First discovered Jamiroquai in 1998 as a 10yr old and I believe this was the first song of his I heard - He helped me cope with growing up! Brought all his CDs haha
I like the fact that if you loop the song its like a endless loop of Jamirquai waking up, defying the laws of everything while dancing and then going back to sleep again
Met this guy once in 2001. He got a real bad wrap for chinning that one journalist back in the day but he was a really nice guy when I met him. Spent near 45 minutes chatting to me outside a chip shop about Sade and 'new wave jazz' and Japanese motorcycles. Was more down to earth than I'd ever have expected.

I have news for you: people still do. It's just not mainstream. Camino84 is a recent-ish example of music in this genre. Highly recommend.

It was the 90's and beginning 2000's lot of things died since, there was a lot of Disco/Funk reintroduction, a notable one was Daft Punk and the house, nu-disco scene.
It was also the time of the Techno-utopia and Y2k, and consumerism, but also of the "everything for kids" that started in the 80's and explode in the 90's... something that die out after the burst of the internet bubble and the 9/11 that destroyed utopism with the army and wrong side of patriotism imagery, that took more and more place with time.
Lot of new techs where introduce to the mass, like portable phones by nokia ericson alcatel etc, internet, 3D game consoles with better way to store stories, games, new music genre and fusion etc (like jami)

Great song, classic video. Sad that Jay Kay and the rest of Jamiroquai never got the recognition they deserved in the states. At least not till Napoleon Dynamite came out...lol Even so, I was a fan long before that. I have every album up to Funk Odyssey but I may have to start hunting up the rest because I've recently started to listen to them again after a bit of a hiatus...nice to rediscover an old favorite. :-D
If you're wondering what the other albums were after A Funk Odyssey then look no more, they were Dynamite (2005) High Times: Singles 1992-2006 (that album was only an album of their best singles throughout the years) and their latest album was Rock Dust Light Star (2010) they're currently producing a new album.
