The 8-Bit Big Band "One Minute Bytes" #17 - "Town Theme" from Sim City (SNES). Soyo Oka wrote one of the low key most beautiful OST's on the SNES port of the original Sim City. Wanted to pay my small tribute to her incredible writing and expand some of the best themes from this amazing game from my youth!
One Minute Bytes is our series of short videos dedicated to melodies and themes from within video games that deserve to be arranged even if they might not be the main theme of said game. Hope you enjoy these small, sharable, bite sized chunks of video game music!

This composition has gone full circle, alluding to Mozart in another medium, and being brought back again into orchestration!
very naturally too, it just had to happen
Soyo Oka is a super talented composer. The Capital theme from the NES Sim City OST gives me hardcore chills.
Whoa just listened to that, what an awesome theme for a NES game!
I don’t know this one at all: it’s charming!
The Sim City SNES OST is a low key banger all around!!
@@The8BitBigBand I remember all the time on Snes. Amazing work and congrats.
@@The8BitBigBand Make more Simcity themes!
Please.
The vibe, and actually the sound kinda, aren't that far off from the original. Like, the whole OST is pretty chill start to finish.
The game that paved the way for Will Wright to become a Zelda character!
Still the most fun version of Sim City in my view - and the soundtrack is amazing.
Oh, I need more of this one. More of the SimCity SNES soundtrack, please!
What of 2000, 3000 & 4000 as well?
@@Dlf212 Those would be way less charming. The SNES version was very orchestral already, while the PC games have a more electronica vibe.
@@alaindellepiane2827 Yes absolutely, SNES version has a special spark no other version ever did!
Soyo Oka is one of my favourite composers, cool to listen to her compositions brought to life like this!
Stunning rendition of a classic, I would love to hear your take on the City theme, Soyo Oka is such an amazing composer. Wish she was still active.
Always loved the SNES Simcity soundtrack. This makes me love it even more!
This was such a nostalgia trip! I would absolutely love to buy a full album on this!
This is gonna be a fun 3 minutes, didn't expect a triple upload!
Keep up the good work folks :D
This arrangement is just absolutely beautiful! I keep coming back to this - it may be my favorite cover on this channel? Anyhow, thank you so much for breathing such life into this piece and instilling it with such magnificence! 💯👌
I'd love to see a Jazz Big Band rendition of the complete Starship Mario theme from Mario Galaxy 2. Your unique spin on such a catchy, upbeat, and adventurous tune would be a complete and total eargasm. Keep up the amazing work, and keep being awesome you excellent group of insanely talented folks!
Josh Plotner is a beast. Very tasty woodwind playing.
He is truly the swiss army knife of the band
Sorta related, it's really funny to imagine that at 0:31 the cut away hides the bassoon being chucked across the room to make way for a fast switch to the oboe.
Had this tune stuck in my head the other day and couldn't remember what it was from. Now I remember thanks for putting a name to the tune.
Always a pleasure to sit in that trumpet section!!!
Soya Oka is one of my favorite Nintendo composers. I hope you do more of her music!
That one guy in the Zelda shirt is playing three different instruments. Dang, impressive!
This is Mozart’s sonata No. 6 K284 “Durnitz” in case you’re wondering why it’s so classical. Took me a little while for this one😅🥲
This has been crying out for this treatment for 30 years
やっぱシムシティって言ったらこの曲ですよね。
美しい音色と一緒に思い出までブラッシュアップされる様でとても感激です!
Josh carrying as usual on all the woodwinds
Wow this bassoonist is amazing!!!
The oboist rules too!
The flute player could really use some lessons though.
@Josh Plotner I seriously watched it three times to make sure I really was seeing what I thought I was. All three parts were really well played!
@@Shinigumi 😊
Three absolutely fantastic takes in this last group of bytes! Bravo!
I love this! You all are incredible musicians!
These 1 minute bytes are great for covering a wide range of game songs! I'd love to see your guys' rendition of Blackridge Works from Blast Corps. It's suitably funky and fit for a jazz arrangement! :D
Yoooo yes Blast Corps I love that game! Def a great candidate for this series. Very under appreciated game!!
great memories come to me c:
Sweet, sweet nostalgia!~ T_T
Congrats for winning thr grammys
I would pay serious money to sit in a concert audience and just listen to SNES Sim City music for 2 hours.
Oh man, this shot me back to the SNES Sim City days.
Sometimes you just update it and that's more than enough - wondeful
So. Many. Memories!! I had the original dos version with no sound and then one day got the cd rom version and was amazed. This version brings back all those amazed feelings, thank you guys for another epic tune.
I remember this well from playing this on the SNES as a kid.
Sounds beautiful. God, this takes me back.
If you told me this was the A section for a classical piece of music i wouldn't disbelieve you.
I am so happy they did this. I just remember fond memories playing this on my grandads old computer on an emulator. Great memories..
One of my favorites
Fabulous!
Good times!
I LOVE YOUR WORK AS ALWAYS AAAAORKSEKOEOGO. i'm not as familiar with the sims but this cover is so great
8 bit music theory must be elated
Absolutely perfect!
Can u guys please Livestream more concerts!!!! I listen to the last one on repeat all the time it's so good!
Immense nostalgia for this one!
Oh my gooooosh!!!! Do the whole SimCity soundtrack and press it to vinyl and I'll be the happiest ever!!!!
I'm not crying okay
Sounds like 90s christmas to me, and that's great.
Wow, just, wow!
Darn. I was hoping it would be the Sim City 2000 intro. This is wonderful as well.
This is super nice. I would love to see what you would do with megalopolis
A não véi 🥰🥰 obrigado
I’ve been a SimCity fan all throughout my life (I even have a copy of Will Wright’s (the person who created simcity) debut game, Raid on Bungeling Bay for the Commodore 64.) and I beg that you do SimCity 3000’s soundtrack, particularly Updown Town or Central Park Sunday. Some of the best VGM music out there.
The entirety of the SimCity for the SNES’s soundtrack is great though. Makes me feel bad that I don’t have an SNES.
Ahhhhhhh so many feels!!!!
this music gives me more days of live
Wow, you guys and gals always have amazing songs! I've listened to so many of your arrangements, and I love every single one. Maybe I can sing for an arrangement one time, I have ideas! Let me know how I can get in on the 8-bit fun, maybe I could sing Fire Emblem Three House's theme song, which is one of my favorites. A jazz arrangement on that would be amazing.
I'd love to work with all of you amazing artists! Tootles! ^-^
Infact I'd especially love to sing a Persona song for you. My personal one is Take Over, but that's another idea! :D
Bassoon!
So we've got a bit of a Mozart vibe here. Nice.
My girlfriend had been practicing some Mozart on piano and it seeped into my brain when I did this haha
@@The8BitBigBand Well, there's a good explanation for this! I love it!
@@The8BitBigBand You should try adding some Beethoven, Liszt, or Rachmaninoff vibes into your next arrangement!
How do we make suggestions? Do you have a suggestion box or something? I would love to hear Studiopolis Zones 1 & 2
Now I understand why the original link didn't have any game scenes lol.
I used to play this game back in middle school with the school's laptops. Ahhh good times. I always liked the villain that would pollute the air if police couldn't connect to roads
Be sure to avoid Bowser
I use to get sad when the city theme changed so i stay in that level for a long while and found out thats how you make money XD Build slow and enjoy the money
Oh man . . .
My dude is flouting, oboing, and basooninating? pulling triple duty here~
hahah bassooninating lol
This reminds me of the Sega CD 5-Game Collection Menu for some reason…
Part of line reminded of that Kanye/groove sample. 🔥 jams ysll
Dr Wright would approve
I'm trying to decide if I'm bothered by the thumbnail for the video having the SNES Simcity logo, but Simcity 2000 buildings.
YOU GUYS NEED TO DO TETRIS THEME TYPE B ON THE GAMEBOY
You guys should totally do an arrangement of masked/king dededes theme!
Could you guys do Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday from Metal Gear Solid 2 with the same singer from your Snake Eater cover
I gots a suggestion- the Soccer theme from Nintendo Switch Sports!
Sonata in D?? Was that part of the original song?
This sounds like the intro track to an 80s movie about someone who has to go back to school and pass an advanced civics program to finish their degree.
Do some of the PC version?
You should do Koopa's Road
Could you guys do something from Plok? Please I beg of you!
Where do we Sign for more ?!
I'd like to see you do Breakout from 3D Dot Game Heroes
Damn, sounds like something that would be in a newer SimCIty game
Oi, any chance for a Sim City 3000 track?
+2.5DB nice studio, should be able to get it right.
Please do megalopolis
I played this game all the time as a kid. Never got past cit, mainly because I couldn’t read yet. I also didn’t know you had to pay back your loans…
Does the auidience hear one more i wonder?
Monkey Island theme please!!
God if they could remake snes simcity for switch, I vote for this band to do the entire soundtrack.
Masked DEDEDE (kirby Super Star Ultra)
HO shi* This is my time... 🍷🗿
I was thinking, the Casino Night Theme from sonic 2 (ruclips.net/video/jl6kjAkVw_s/видео.html) seems perfect for 8BBB to do!
paper mario 😁
Could be from the sims from the sound of it. lol
U guys should play bad piggies theme
Why does this sound like a national anthem ???
In a sense. It is.
Do Secret of Mana. God please. Or Final Fantasy 6. Why... Maybe copyrights and getting pieces, but man...
masks.... #MFP
I always found the original a bit annoying but this arrangement makes it just beautiful!
I apologize... But I don't like this. It's rushed, misses SO MUCH nuance and just seems far too chilled in its presentation. It just ends up WAY overshooting the warm, dream-like decadence of the original SNES track. 😕
