  • Simon was called out to rescue a family of Canada geese who had decided to stop off in a garden on their way to a local lake. He thought that it would be a simple collection and relocation, but as he arrived things took an unexpected twist...

      It could be koi or goldfish. Canada Geese do sometimes eat small fish, though I think they usually prefer plants and algae. I was thinking that it would be more likely to be the mess and some safety risks for little kids, though. A family of geese can be pretty territorial and defensive if you get too close to their babies, and they will attack people if they think they can scare you off. They're also very messy animals; the guy's pond and lawn would be absolutely covered in goose poop for a while.

    • @galacticcactus5530
      @galacticcactus5530 8 лет назад +44

      I'm going to agree with the fish thing. And also, not to be rude, but Canadian geese can leave a bit of a mess (poo) wherever they settle, so it's fair for him to not want that either.

    I live in Canada,and I see these geese all the time. They are terrifying creatures,but so pretty to look at and hear. But who would kick geese of there property? What right does he have? I hope a whole flock of geese come back and have revenge on him. Hahah

      +b1njjj95 I'm not sure they'd do that. They are scared of humans, i literally walked right threw a big pack of Canadian geese and they ran away. They don't mean harm, and besides, they'll migrate either way.

    So a man has a huge lake in his garden, a magnet to ALL wildlife, and he does not want wildlife in there???? And these are geese so they will cut his grass for him???? Is this man a mermaid or something, or a troll that lives at the bottom of the lake?

    What kind of an education do you need to be able to get a job at facilities like this? I'd assume veterinary lessons would be required, but is there anything else in particular?

    • @wildlifeaid
      @wildlifeaid  8 лет назад +2

      We are always in need of volunteers (as is any rescue centre), and we accept anyone from students to PhD scientists! All of out veterinary staff are fully qualified as vets or vet nurses, and everyone else has a variety of qualifications. There is no real educational requirement to be a rescuer, but I would definitely recommend following a biological/veterinary line if you want to develop your knowledge. Our cameraman, for example, is a marine biologist, and that can be quite useful!

Maybe when they travel to other country's they're being introduce to other birds or animals they're not use to thats making them aggressive. I've never seen a Canada goose in Canada attack anybody. You can walk up to them they won't even move or pay attention you.

      The english name is the same worldwide. That's not true for all birds, however. For example, we North Americans call a certain duck the Common Merganser, while the British call them Goosanders. We call our birds of prey hawks, and they buzzards. We have loons and they have divers. The only thing that doesn't vary anywhere for any species is the scientific name.
