My dad after he came back from WWII drove truck with a '46 Dodge conventional cab with the 251 Chrysler flathead six,5:speed transmission but no 2 speed axle, he was ridiculed by a fellow driver with a Mack who referred to the Dodge as a "puddle smacker"for some reason the bigger rigs could run away from the Dodge on level roads but because of the way it was geared it could run away from them in the mountains though.

That twin-steer GMC Crackerbox with the drom box you have at the beginning of this video is impossible to ignore.

There's a similar tank van at the Cole Land Transportation in Bangor. Well worth a visit!

@@Scott_From_Maine I've seen pics of the Crackerbox at that museum on Wikimedia Commons, but I didn't think that was a twin-steer version:

Now I know, and I should add it to my bucket list.

As a retired truck driver, I can think of three companies that I drove for that are no longer here. Big Three, Cemical express, and Go Crete. I'm sure there's more. I started out in cabovers, which I drove many, until companies started going conventional. I will always prefer cabovers.

Good job picking "realistic" colors for the ol' gals.
I know many "real" truckers scorned these as "cheapies" but the truth is...they put on as many miles as their "big"
    brothers.
    Thanks again!....

Very interesting to see all the different combinations that used to be in the US..coming from the UK/EU I find it interesting that the US never really used rigids (straight trucks) coupled to drawbar trailers (turntable axle/s at front). These were very common in the Europe of old - more common than tractors pulling semi trailers. Not so today though, the drawbars have all but disappeared. Love the trucks, love the film. Regards from the UK.

No A/C, no power steering. Noisy rough ride not much good about the "good old days"
