I effing love these games. Im playing Dark Cloud 2 on my PS5. Just beat the first again. Got burnt out on Eldem Ring
Heard it here first folks. Dark Cloud 2 is better than Eldem Ring
I went over to DC because I was tired of the difficulty of the souls game just to realise that these are probably the games where the difficulty are based on :/
I always go back to the original dark cloud, it's SO GOOD and so unique. I've never played Dark Cloud 2, but I totally need to one day since I'm still obsessed with the first after all these years.
@@Whatyoudexpect all my homies hate Eldem Ring💯
I don’t have a ps5 but I do still have my ps2 and play these two games semi regularly, simply amazing games
who else remembers this game being the best game on the demo discs?
A fellow demo player I see 😏😏😏
@@JamesMerlaut hehe
me! thats why i return to check it out 😂
Only had the demo discs as a kid
I played many demos back in the day, fortunately for me I got dark cloud as my first game with the ps2, dark cloud and dark cloud 2 are still my favourite games
My dad gave me this as a child and I loved it. Everyone said it was a Zelda OoT rip off but I still adored it. I loved rebuilding the villages. I wish more people knew of it. ❤
Believe it or not, GameInformer magazine back in the day even called it "The Zelda Killer" before it came out!
I remember my mom or dad bought it for me back in the day because I wanted to play something like Zelda. I literally met one other person in my life that actually played it. It's a hidden gem for sure
The real ones know!
I loved its weapon system for real spent so long grinding to upgrade the weapons lol . I even got it on my ps4 now to get further than I did as a kid 😅
Dark Cloud is if LoZ and FF had an illicent love child, imo.
Dark Cloud was so rad and I feel like it's kind of forgotten. This game blew my mind when I was 11. Masterpiece.
This game still has a firm grasp on my heart, despite how old it is now.
Grew up and had dark cloud 1 and 2. There's a few dozen of us lmao
god tier games
I still play them to this day on my ps2, best games ever
Same i loved this game with passion
this is honestly one of the best games ive ever played. my mom randomly bought it for me when i was like 10 years old for getting good grades in school lol. id never heard of it but my god did i end up sinking mad hours into this game. thanks for the video was extremely nostalgic, and funny.
Duuuuuuude thanks for the nostalgia trip, light turned on when you mentioned good grades something I never got 😅
Mmhmm, it's so good. So many amazing ideas packed into one game. Such an intense dungeon crawler and such a satisfying city-builder.
This game was my childhood, what a masterpiece😭
The Dark Cloud hero also had pretty good sense of style. Black jeans, white tank top, poncho
I'm sorry I can't be him.
2:30
You can actually set up the map's Opacity by litterally 4 levels
Thank me later
What the FUCK
@@Whatyoudexpect I think you can even have the map turned off too, but I usually make it at the smallest setting to see it better, lol, makes it easier for me. XD
About time someone shed some light on this masterpiece of a series! I still to this day have my copies of both games. I think I might pick them up again and take a stroll down memory lane.
dark cloud i litrally my fav game ever. i never thought a 20 year old game thats repetitive but new and jas no jump button and no speach voices would be my fav game ever
There was also the character who got stung and the woman had to suck the poison out. I remember thinking it was hilarious
God, fucking DAMN was this a fantastic video. Hilariously entertaining, and the HC came right at the end was brilliant. I can wait to see what you do for DC2
I recently replayed Dark Cloud and... it has aged surprisingly well... the game mechanics aren't dated whatsoever.
My whole family played this game when i was a child, came out shortly after i was born and i grew up on it. Started playing it when I was super young and it has always remained one of my favorite games of all time
I LITERALLY SAW MY CHILDHOOD PASSING THROUGH MY EYES WHILE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO AND LISTENING TO DARK CLOUDS AMAZING MUSIC. This game and its sequel meant everything to me since i couldn’t afford a lot of games back then. And this one right here gave me hours and hours of fun.
I was on a Dark Cloud nostalgia trip and this video popped up. Loved playing the game growing up, so it's nice to see people still talking about it, even for a little bit. Great video and loved the commentary, mate! Had some good laughs
Thank you so much for covering this game!!! I found this video after searching and trying to remember the name of this game, I remember playing it as a kid and LOVING it. It was my absolute favorite game and I can't believe I forgot its name.
Literally my all time favorite game for gameplay, story, and THE SOUNDTRACK! The weaponing leveling system! THE MINIGAMES I WOULD FISH FOR HOURS! But damn that soundtrack.
I just opened youtube and it automatically sent me to this video...
Nice.
i played this game when i was young i was really poor growing up so this was about 08 and remembered really loving the finding and rebuilding the town
I only can shed tears when i hear the OST odlf this game.
My mom used to play this game infront of me and my sister when she got some spare time to do so.
Most favorite Let's Player of mine.
Thank you for the retrospective ❤
This game was too advanced for my child mind at the time. Lol. I appreciate it so much more now that I’m older.
But... I played it when I was like 2 ... though admittedly I'd get my older sister to do the boss fights, like the combo fight against the Skeleton on floor... 5?
In Europe there was a demo disc that included Dark Cloud. It was time locked to 1 hour, so you could go as far as you could go. That disc got played to death but I never managed to build up a weapon in it lol. God bless Happy Clown giving the Sandbreaker early though!
This is the game series that captured my imagination the most during my childhood. One fateful night after making it to Moon Flower Palace in 2, I accidentally lost all of my progress by saving over the file with a separate challenge run I was messing around with. Tears were shed, but maybe late-20's me would appreciate the games even more now. Great video!
The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic too, incredibly nostalgic to hear now.
I got this game with my PS2. Was so fire. Still one of my favorite dungeon crawler rpg's to this day.
I downloaded it on my ps5, played it for the first time since I was a little kid
It’s STILL good
I remember playing this game for hours when I was a kid. I made it all the way to the last boss but was never able to beat his first phase. I need to go back any play through this master piece again.
Dark Cloud was the first game I owned on the PlayStation 2. And then I lost my mind when I wondered into a Blockbuster and see Dark Cloud 2. I love this series to death
I never had the patience as a child to finish the game, couldn't even get past Village Dungeon to proceed further. I did enjoy playing it and was frustrated on how difficult it was. Years later I replayed it and am definitely kicking my child self for not sticking through it. Lovely game that deserves more love, it's always a treasure finding others that also love this underrated series.
I grew up with my cousin playing this game on the weekends absolutely getting crushed in the dungeons lol.
“The small box has a chance at LSD. Needless to say always pick the small box.” Had me dying 😂😂😂. Thank you for this video. Dark Cloud is my nostalgic bliss!
Everyone I've talked to has not even heard of this game do I feel you. I used to go to my cousins house and play this all day. I love it, and am wanting to play it again, as I never passed it.
Why am I finally seeing this. I loved this series!! And haven't seen any coverage on it or anyone revisiting it until now. Glad to know I wasn't the only one that knew these games existed.
I got this game when I was 10 years old, I loved it and I played for more than a 100 hours and now that I have 26 years old, I still play it on the same PS2 and I still love it and holds a special place in my heart ♥️
I love this game! Such a good hidden gem on the ps2! Great video too 🤩
Dark Cloud to this day is my favorite game, always good to see more videos on it
One of the most random things to pop into my head at work was this game. Only played the demo over 20 years ago. Wish I could still feel nostalgia.
My favourite ps2 game when I was kid. When I was a kid like 7 years old and saw this "sword game" in a store and begged my dad to buy it. Glad he did, we spent a lot of time playing this together. I finished this game multiple times as a kid, and many many years later bought it to ps4 and got 100% out of it. Love this game, and it will always remind me of my dad. What a good memories. Great video man!
Edit: Also the musics of this game are so good!
Much love, and thank you for the kind words
Not sure how I ended up with this game as a kid but I fell in love with it. Made me feel a certain way that very few games did. Ahh memories.
I have so many amazing memories with this game especially the music, oh lord the music best ost ever
Also remember that both games can be actually bought from the ps store and played on the ps4
Yeah but you have to buy those.
My family loved these games. My mom, who is game illiterate, loved this game and the sequel, and my sisters and I still play these sometimes on our ps3s.
Oh man, gonna be playing this soon and I'm STOKED. Thanks for hyping me up more!
I was not expecting my boy from the Dark Cloud Compendium to make a Cameo respect to my mans 😤 👑
Anything for the Dark Cloud Community 😄
Thank you for the kind words Sandman 🌟🙌
As a kid the kings curse was so hard that i stole my brothers technique of infinitely twirling ungaga's base staff and even when it breaks it does one damage, it takes a long time but eventually you beat him that way
Excellent video, congrats to both of you! Would love to see the same thing for DC2 as well :)
I played the hell out of these games on the PS2. I loved them
FLOOR 10 BACK ROOM OF THE FOREST DUNGEON IS THE BEST GRIND SPOT FOR YOUR WEAPONS. The only enemies there are werewolves. They drop 24 abs per kill and you can bounce back and forth between the back floor and the actual level as much and as long as you want and all enemies respawn upon entering, however, if you somehow get the limited zone for "reduced abs" on floor 10 of Wise owl forest, it stays that way, and the only way to get rid of it, is, unfortunately to restart your ENTIRE FILE. ( this happened to me once and I was SO PISSED)
Dark Cloud 2 was pretty good. Dark Cloud 1 was stressful with its thirst mechanic. It was like a timer. I just wanted to explore the dungeons at my own pace, not be rushed by some strange gameplay mechanic. That was my 6 year old self, though. My older brother was really the one who played and beat both.
My sister and I played this on a demo disk so much that my mum eventually bought it for us, then Chronicle when it came out. To this day we go back to these games regularly and still enthuse to each other about the music and stories.
This is one of the first rpg games I got for my ps2 it got me into games like dragon quest and then monster hunter, this game brings back a lot of memories of being a kid and not having any worries in the world, I loved the weapon system in the game it was really cool trying to find new weapons in dungeons and upgrading them to see what u can get
I still have these games and the demo to the first one.
Fabulous video. You brought me back.
I’ve still only every beat the first Dungeon Boss. Looking back as a kid I had no idea what I was doing lol
I remember there being a bug in the game where with some directional inputs in the inventory screen you can make a broken blade or something like that, which could be endlessly be used to evolve your weapon. man good times
I used to play this with my dad. Good memories.
I love this game series, especially the first. It was the second game I ever beat the first being Final Fantasy Mystic quest. I think my parents found out about the first game from my uncle and mayby even persuaded them to get a PS2. I typically always status break 1 weapon and put it on the next then get said next weapon up to lv5 before going to dran. Each new character goes through at least the previous dungeons level before moving back to current progress and doing this keeps everyone about the same power level.
I loved this game, it was the first game me and my dad looked up online guides for, we were immersed
Just recently got the platinum for this amazing game, feel like my childhood’s complete! Now I’m making progress with DC2
One thing this review is missing is that at it's core like most dungeon raider games is that this is a grinding game. I believe the developers intended players to take characters they unlock back to easier dungeons on more frequent runs to level up their gear. The more you do that the more likely you are to encounter weapon chests and chests with backroom keys.
Excellent commentary, very underrated RUclipsr.
Snake boss is the best boss hands down.
This was the BEST game during its time. I remember playing this in my teens. Now I'm 31.
gotta love how this just became a dark cloud compendium video at the end
Man I grew up playing this and Dark Chronicles when they first came out. Flashback to the past! Time to watch the Dark Chronicles video next!
this brings me back
I just wanted to say how much I respected the comment about using games like Dark Cloud to help children with Autism to express themselves. Great recap overall, but I found that particular sentiment to be really cool. Kudos, and subbed.
In the beginning of the game I would always status break my dagger and keep it in my inventory for new characters (never upgrade an item with it equipped because you lose them) really helps!
This game was impossibly hard for adolescent me. I have no idea how I found this game or where it came from but I loved it and I still hear the soundtrack in my head
Awesome video. I love dark cloud so much
I fondly remember this game. And now PS has it free to play if your Premium or sells it for $14.99. I am excited to play this again as I have been looking for this game for years. I just forgot what it was named.
I will always love this series. Wish they would do a third
I would buy a ps5 the second they announce a dark cloud 3
The water in this game always made me thirsty
Dark Cloud is the first PS2 games I ever owned and it's one of my favorite. Can't say the same for the 2nd game though.
My favorite game of all time is Dark Cloud 2. Is it due to my nostalgic memories of playing the game through multiple times throughout my life, several times with my dad. Yes.
I LOVE this game! Couldn't get enough of it once I was old enough to read lol
I never heard about this series but it’s actually kind of cool ngl
PS2 was the first time I didn't get a Nintendo console first. I bought this game simply because it looked Zeldaesque, to me. Turned out to be a pretty cool game. The sounds of the game stick with me to this day.
One of my fav games ever made. Playing DC2 right now :-)
Just started number 1
One of my favorite games growing up.
Everyone else: “I think ‘Toan’ is pronounced the same as ‘loan.’”
This guy, an intellectual: “Toe-Ann.”
Tee-oan
I'm on the hunt for retro and forgotten game's and this looks interesting
2:13 whoa, BEAUTIFUL water shader in the original Dark Cloud!
Played this on Ps2 when I was little. The nostalgia hits hard
This video made my week man thanks
Long Live Dark Cloud and dark Cloud 2
I feel like it cannot be understated how much of a BANGER the soundtrack is.
I have a copy of this game. Stoked to play it now!
Remember playing this has a kid, loved it so much
the OST is amazing as well, 11 year old me was blown away.
Hey ungaga rules first off he's got that long spear reach, and second wow I really wasnt expecting that last little bit :) I'm also on the spectrum and that really spoke to me too. Thanks for making this video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Also yeah he's useful it's just that Toan and Goro are so insanely strong that Ungaga feels kinda clunky to me.
Bro when the chest explodes, the item remains inside and if you step away from the chest quickly you don't get hit by the explosion so I personally always pick poison. Thanks for the upload tho
Guess im #6 then, I played this game over and over again. I love this game. Its pretty much my favorite game of my childhood.
i had a demo CD with this game on it , i played it a million times , memory unlocked
I remember when I started playing this at my great grandma house like 7 years ago
I loved the first one. I remember getting it as little kid and it freaked me out as a 7 year old
Got this on ps4 and ps5 on the psn store ! Amazing games
Holy cow. I've played this game since *way* back, and I never knew about Gaffer hurting his back, and having a worse stock! Guess however I always do my playthrough allows Pike to come first.
