Doctor is correct. I am doing radiotherapy and chemo at the same time. After treatment is over cancer continues to shrink and dry up for up to12 weeks. I am in Thailand but in no way fit enough to go to the beach or drink alcohol. This is costing me 13000 pounds uk. so if you come to thailand and you have a relapse make sure you have an extra 20000 quid with you.
Radiotherapy takes time to work. They can't get a good assessment of the result for a while. When the treatment is finished you will hopefully feel better and progress.
Life is short...I watch this with a yearning to quit my job and start living again.. it can all be tits up in a heartbeat, best wishes Ed Working is merely existing for most not actually living..

Hi Steady Eddy, I hope you are feeling well ❤ It's a shock to the system when your health drops off a cliff...the phlebotomists are the best for giving needles. They take blood all day long. I had some nurses whose last job was drilling for oil and looking for a "gusher". I was on the blood thinners (rat poison) for a while. It's one thing reading about medical issues and it's another experiencing them for real. GOODLUCK
You suffered a lot less because you accepted the situation and you went with what is. It's when you resist the situation that's when the problems start. Al the best 👌

Mri scan here in Thailand is 500 uk pounds and if the doctors spot something they will make him stay in hospital. Also mri scans need to be booked a month in advance. I have done 3 mri's in the last 3 months for colon cancer. I am using a thai government hospital in bangkok called chulalongkorn memorial hospital opposite lumpini park.

KCMH is a Red Cross hospital managed by a non profit trust but is affiliated to the MOPH and acts as a referral hospital for MOPH and also a teaching hospital for Chulalongkorn University Medical school. Longer waiting times can be expected at hospitals in high population density areas. There are government regional specialist hospitals such as Queen Siriket Heart Center in Khon Kaen (If you search - Heart Khon Kaen ASEANNOW you will see plenty of threads where it gets good reviews). Another is Udon Thani Cancer Hospital (If you search - Government Hospitals Cancer ASEANNOW you will see somebody said they found it excellent, cheap and easy to get an appointment. Also the following should take you to a Promo Vid but it shows the 6th Floor RT with associated equipment building they finished a few years ago - Introduction To Udon Thani Cancer Hospital TECHNO. I only know one guy who used this hospital but he was happy with the treatment and cost he got there and got the all clear for his prostrate cancer).
He's uninsurable, he already has a short trip to Europe planned, let him see how he gets on with that. His abilities are too limited and he's very reliant on the care from his friend hence the short 5 day trip to somewhere close to get to! Thailand is not the place to find out it's grown back massively and that a decline is coming soon! Let him evaluate his scan results and his physical abilities at that point!

Nahh… if it were me, I’d book my vacation and get the scans while I was traveling. You can even ask to send the scans back to your doctor in the UK from abroad.
Easy to say that when you aren't in Ed's predicament. He is not in a condition to go backpacking around Thailand and popping into hospitals when he feels like it! It's far more complicated than that, and that's why Ed has done the sensible thing and booked a short haul trip for a few days to see how he manages with it. Once he has that scan in January, he'll have an idea of how slowly or fast it's growing back and then decide accordingly what he thinks is or isn't doable.

Good to see you still ticking along Edd. Try to have a sit down and detailed chat with your oncologist on what's coming up how quickly you might decline. Pay to see them privately if it gives you a longer appointment. You said you were always a planner find out realistically how well you might be in January /Feb. These next few months may be the fittest you will ever be again unfortunately. If so book that cruise, fly out to Asia or something. You come across as immensely strong and have been inspirational to many. So do yourself a favour find out what's coming and a timeline then book the final holiday accordingly.
He's got a trip coming soon to Europe, let him see how he gets on with that. He cannot do Thailand until his physical abilities have improved much more and he's no longer reliant on a carer. That scan will give Ed a gauge on how quickly or slowly the tumour grows back. If it's groen back very little he can relax and have a few trips somewhere but If it's grown back too much then he can't jump on a 13hr flight to a third world country with no insurance. That's not the place for him to decline all alone!
You're looking for certainty where none exists Ed. The therapy will knock you back a bit. You need to have in you head am i going to feel better. The better question is do i fell well enough to get away for a few weeks until my next possible treatments. Take the strength you have and judge if it's usable.

If it's groen back very little he can relax and have a few trips somewhere but If it's grown back too much then he can't jump on a 13hr flight to a third world country with no insurance. That's not the place for him to decline all alone!

You're looking for certainty where none exists Ed. The therapy will knock you back a bit. You need to have in you head am i going to feel better. The better question is do i fell well enough to get away for a few weeks until my next possible treatments. Take the strength you have and judge if it's usable.
