Any recommendations on how to get it further from the wall? I'm trying to install this in my garage and I want to be at least 1 foot away from the wall
Below is a link to find SketchUp file of this design for anyone curious, under the metalworking section!
workshopedits.com/free-designs/pull-up-bar
Do the following:
Use two 12” pipes to extend out horizontally from the walk. Get 2 x 18" pipes and use a T fitting in the middle of the bars to connect them. Use a longer pipe piece to stick out diagonally from the middle T fitting piece and down to a 45 degree elbow piece that will allow you to connect it to a wall flange below high in the middle of the bar or below (probably around 16" - this pipe will be smaller if you shorten the 12' pipes that stick out horizontally.
Send me a DM on Instagram I can elaborate to anyone who needs help.
Cheers
@Ryan Lue Chin just updated the link
@Ryan Lue Chin just use longer pipe fittings
Just remember that you'll have to account you added leverage if you extend the bars, and will need to add some sort of extra secure points, or higher tensile screws.
Use a corner of the room. Then all you have to to is secure a block to each wall to support the bar. You can even make it so you can just lift the bar off, so you can use a barbell you already have
I got a nice archway in my living room where I'm gonna plant this, much love bruv and thank you 👊
I wouldn't trust toggles or drywall anchors. If you can't mount directly to a beam, I would use a stringer board anchored to studs in 3-4 places and the flanges attached to the stringer in using bolts going all the way through the stringer with carriage bolts or hex type. With studs only being 3-1/2 " wide, it's not likely the flange holes will all line up. So a stringer or beam provides a better mounting option.
Just ordered the exact materials. Thanks for the idea.
Love it!
Great job!
Thanks bud
I’m looking for ideas 💡 to install and disassembled for my flatbed truck
Thanks for this!!! ❤
Great vid, and build! I just made my a video of building my own DIY pull-up! Thanks for the inspiration!
Nice. Simple. Direct and to the point.
Glad you liked it
Exactly what I was looking for
this worked for me! thank man :)
excellent.
genius !
Thank you
Ty bro just made my bar setup because of u I using it for my abs workout I very much appreciate this video
Great to hear!
Amazing video! thx gonna make this tmr :)
Have fun!
Super helpful!! Took less than 10 minutes, I just needed to use some steel wool on the bar so it wouldn’t get black on my hands.
yea - i sort of accepted having slightly dirty hands but I'd wash my hands after lifting anyways!
Use glass cleaner and a paper towel about 5x and it pretty much cleans it all up.
You could add straps for other exercises....nice job!
Definitely!
I need one so I can bolt it to a tree branch in my local park the branch is perfect height but to thick to grip😀when I lived in the Bronx there was monkey bars in every park around 238th street on broadway and around kings bridge were I lived !! In Ireland they don’t but anything in the parks for exercise which would be good for kids to see people doing to peek there interest instead of staring at an iPad and eating crisps 😂😂😂thanks great video I’m doing this on Monday 🇮🇪🇮🇪
We’re u get that stuff bro I’m in Ireland I guess a plumber Supplys great video lad cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪👍👍thanks
it was all sold in the plumbing section of our Home Depot - its pretty common in the United States but that might be our plumbing codes driving the material availability
"Sweaty...and rock solid!" 😏
😄
Vide idea: can u make a diy free stand pull up bar, meaning not attached to any wall just on the ground and moveable, so u can screw the flanges to tires and add a pipe to, so the tire are the base of support on the ground
Seems like you already have the idea on lock and can make it yourself!
I just built one, but the pipe stains my hands. Can I paint it for what?
So all of the pieces should be 3/4 inch, including the pipe?
I have always preferred pull-up bars that are ~3/4” thick so I went with it. You can absolutely use 1” pieces, just make sure they are all the same thickness so they screw together. I realize my vid was a tad confusing because my store only had 1” flanges so I bought elbows that converted 3/4” to 1” so my bar is 3/4” but my small nipple pieces and flanges are 1”. Hope that helps clarify.
Nice and not even have to get my welder and angel grinder out to make it
yup - 10 minutes and no complex tools
Do you think this will work if it’s mounted on a bedroom wall?
Depends on what's the type and part of the wall.
Thank you for posting this. I was about to go pay 150 dollar that was not necessary.
oh yea - hell no - hope it worked out!
How did you align the elbows/flanges so that they are still both tight?
There is a tightness you can get after a certain amount of twists, and there is usually additional room to then tighten and align more - when you have the mechanical leverage to turn with a longer pipe it becomes really easy to get it tight and aligned
Thanks. 90deg off is about as close as I can get sans mech adv. Not sure that will get me all the way there but will try. Probably okay to be backed out 3/4 of a turn for alignment, if need be. Thanks!
Yea backing out is probably fine, but if you put in another pipe on the end that should give you plenty of leverage to twist it another quarter turn
Is black iron pipe different from galvanized iron pipe?
For this project they’ll serve the same purpose
Way lower haha great job man
Lol. Cheers
Thanks for the video.. Im 140 pounds .. do you think a 1/2 inch bar and elbow could hold my Weight.. i could not find everything on an inch
that feels too thin for me - 3/4" at least
@@workshop_edits oh darn.. ok man thanks for the advice!
Dude for a 3 foot span, 1/2 IRON pipe will hold 140 all day so long as flanges are mounted into studs. You will not bend a 1/2 iron pipe w/ 140 pounds.
hey man, how thick are those pipes? Im planning to use 1,5 mm thick pipes with diameter of 1 inch, is it sufficient? thanks
They’re just standard galvanized steel or black iron pipes you get at a big box store.
@@workshop_edits Unfortunately I dont live in the states, Im from Asia, what is the thickness and diameter of the pipe you're using?
My answer then is “yes” to your original question. Good luck
How much weight do you think this bar can support?
I won’t say cause everyone’s set up will be different. My advice would be to use three supports and break up the bar in the middle with another flange
@@workshop_edits Solid idea! Thanks for the video and response!
How do you feel about the texture of the iron pipe, regarding grip/slipping?
i like it - no different really than a more raw steel bar you'd get a the gym. if anything it helps improve your grip strength
Do you think you can place this on a wall? Great video!
Yes, absolutely
Anyone know how to look up the strength of these components?
They hold hundreds of pounds each
@@workshop_edits Awesome, thanks! Could you tell me where to look this up? I built something extremely close to this one but I dunno how to prove to my friend that it'll be safe for him to build at his place without testing mine to failure
How does the bar not spin, is it threaded?
Did you watch the video...
Zach, would this be strong enough to resist a weighted pull up? At most would be 25-35+ on top of my body weight. (220 lbs currently lol)
Can’t honestly tell you. If you added an extra flange in the middle and/or mounted it to ceiling studs it would be much more secure. Also check out the pinned comment for a modified design.
how about a sit-up bench on your next vid
You sound like my wife!
In theory, this should be safe to mount above most door frames?
As long as you’re going into studs, yes
@@workshop_edits what are studs
Ideas on what is the best way to set up a bar on the ceiling .
Goal is not to do to pull ups , but simply hang .
So no head clearance above the bar is required .
Struggling to find a way to have the bar and the hanging system ( bolts or what ever is used ) to look not bulky and ugly . Gonna have that in my living room .
Thank u all ( in Europe )
Screw into studs?
are all pieces 3/4" in diameter?
Not necessarily - I had 3/4” to 1” transitions for the elbow and flanges. But that was only because my store didn’t have all 3/4” stuff.
I wanna do this so I could beat the pull up world record
Well good luck 👍😂
Is it safe on a door frame?
As long as you’re going into studs
I bought this to replace a very similar item whose foam grips had worn after years of use. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxwyoGHi-cCLV1AqJYj7QeIWKSpdRMYPF1 This one is is even slightly better than the old one I had! (Sorry I don't remember the brand or model.) This bar sits a bit higher in the doorway, giving me more ground clearance for movement, and the foam grips and foam pads that protect the doorway are thicker. It was also very quick and easy to assemble. The only minor gripe I have is that the hand grips in the middle are really tight on the bar, and therefore hard to slide along the bar if you want a wider or narrower grip. You have to be patient and gradually work them into the position you want.
Great to hear!
Hi there just logged in to complain about the shitty half reps at the end. Nice diy project 👍
Glad you have access to a pull-up bar to practice, because those pull-ups were horrible
Do you wake up each morning and go “what’s the quickest way I can prove I’m a shitty person?”
Drywall anchors on a pullup bar???
no?
Can you really claim it's under ten minutes if I have five minutes of ads every two minutes
why are you watching ads in between screwing pipes together? thats weird...
Stop kicking your feet and go alot lower, remember all the way down and all the way up
Sounds great but for fatties like me....we need more reenforcement.
As if you weren't hot enough whilst building furniture now you have to flaunt your workout? 😉 Are you trying to wreck your viewers or something? 😃 Confinement has got a lot of people very thirsty… 😏 Also, you never need to apologise for starting to sweat… 😜😄
