John Frusciante is one of my great heros. you've put some nice licks together that defined his tone in his prime era...as always thankk you and wow...that seat looks comfortable!
Thanks friend! That lovely chair usually sits in my wife's reading nook. I hauled it out for shooting and I think I'll contunie to do so. It really ups the chill factor!
You could do seven lessons just based on Frusciante's The Empyrean alone. Please grace us with a second part to this that focuses on stuff from this period. Super well done sir!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Agreed with both of you guys. I put on Empyrean when I clean the house. Eric, you should do a Frusciante series - possibly some of his 16th note funky strumming patterns. I can never get my hand that floppy - and I've been playing years.. BTW - I think you nailed John when you did the melody 0:19. Eerie, really. WTF?

Your smile says it all while jamming this one! Man, what a great lesson with so many take aways. You are definitely one of my favorite trachers right now! keep on keepin on and cheers from sunny San Diego!

Your wish is my command! Frusciante is a huge influence for me. He bridges the gap from Hendrix to the modern era. His playing really encapsulates decades of great ideas - he's certifiable genius.
This is one of my favourite lessons of yours Eric. It nails the Frusciante vibe and you're clearly having a blast playing it. Good job as always. I'm gonna purchase a few of these now for some holiday workouts
You can tell by the guitar faces that this was a fun one to shoot! :-D Thanks for being one my longest-standing subscribers - you deserve some kind of award! Happy Holidays, mon frere!
Love the new chair! Sweet tones with the Weber Mini Mass...those old Silvertones can really blow the doors off your house if you don't tame them with an attenuator.
I find it crazy that silvertones are desired once I'm an adult. When I was a kid my first guitar was a silvertone that I learned on. At the time I thought it was embarrassing, truthfully it was a good guitar to learn on. I imagine the amp is nice, cause I seem to find a jag or mustang I like, but it sounds good here.
@Jimmy Watford - yeah Jags and Mustangs don't sound like much straight into an amp, they're plinky and thin. But that makes them excellent candidates for signal processing. Kinda like the Captain America origin story :-)
Nice! That string muting technique is big in Blues. You hear it all over SRV tunes. I just started learning how to do it a few months ago. Still a long ways from mastering it; especially when the melody crosses strings and you have to re-align the fingers doing the muting. Slow practice with a metronome is getting me closer to my goal. Thanks Eric.
Thanks Lear! There's so many facets to Frusciante to choose from, and I know that by doing a Frusciante vid, I'm alerting the Troll Patrol, but so far folks are enjoying the lesson :-)
Yeah, the musicianship of RHCP relies so much in the interplay with him and Flea. I love how sometimes it sounds like John, Flea, and Chad are all playing different songs, and yet it all works together.
You really captured his style and melodic phrasing. Great job as usual, Eric. I wonder why you didn't use your Strat though. I guess you just can't put that Mustang down :)
Thanks mi fratello! I was going for the sound he gets when he uses his jag - that thin, punchy tone. Plus, my Mustang has the most comfortable neck of all my guitars :-)
I've never heard that many good sounds from a Fender Mustang...Mostly your eclectic style and skills, but I'll bet the mods improve the guitar, too. Also, on the "Uncle Doug" channel it looks like the same Silvertone amp is getting a complete overhaul. Interesting to see those pawn shop prizes coming back.
@@guitourney I always felt that BTW fell under the radar, especially after Stadium Arcadium dropped. For me, "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" is number one. I feel like it's a perfect 90s continuation of Hendrix's "Axis: Bold As Love." I do really like how later Peppers albums John got more minimal and lyrical, bringing in 80s post-rock angularity. What a guy!
Eric, I am digging the chair, but if you plan on keeping it I will expect a cardigan with elbow patches and some gray in your beard in the future. A pipe and a brandy is optional.
Ha! I'm working on it! Professor Haugen is on the case! I was going for a real mosnterpiece theatre vibe with that chair - gotta get a crushed velvet smoking jacket :-)
Yup. Fred was an actually very accomplished piano player and musician, he wrote a lot of not almost all of the songs used on the show. And a lot of it is def not easy stuff. Cheers to Fred! And Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
Good ol' RHCP. I was getting some Fleetwood Mac and a bit of Zeppelin vibe in there. Maybe it's just me. P.S.: You have to maintain those recording settings. That sounded great for classic rock. Very album like.
