  • December 12, 2022 - Thank you to the incredible company of the one-night-only benefit performance of Chess on December 12, 2022 at the Broadhurst Theatre, supporting our programs and services. Special thanks to producers Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman, and the entire company led by Darren Criss, Lena Hall, Ramin Karimloo and Solea Pfeiffer. Chess was made possible by the generosity of our lead sponsors Stephen and Nancy Gabriel along with the unwavering support of Bob Wankel and The Shubert Organization, and longtime Fund supporter Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. We hope everyone in attendance enjoyed the evening and we hope you all enjoy this highlights video from the show!

If you recorded the full concert, PLEASE consider making it available online - I can’t be the only one who’d happily pay something to see it!

Ramin’s “Anthem” gives me life. Seriously, he’s absolutely incredible every time he plays Anatoly. I wish someone would make a proshot.

I saw this in D.C. a few years ago. I'd go back to Broadway to see it if Ramin Karimloo is in it.

Not one second of solo singing by Darren Criss is included in this video. Interesting....

"Hey entertainment community! My housing situation is really taking a toll on my mental and physical health, as well as my creativity. I have a Section 8 voucher and SSI, but I need help finding a new place to live. Is there anyone I can talk to directly about the Hollywood Arts Collective? I would love to move there and offer my marketing and social services skills, as well as intern with some artist programs. I'm also learning AI and robotics. Moving to the Hollywood Arts Collective would change my life and I would be forever grateful. Please help! #HousingCrisis #ArtistLife #HollywoodArtsCollective"

I love, love, love Chess but aside from an always outstanding Lena Hall as Florence, these excerpts were all overwrought and oversung. These folks are all lovely singers but if this were ever to consider a revival on Broadway, a director with the stones to pull these actors back is sorely needed. And uh, why nothing much from Freddie? He has really some good tunes.

I do find when American directors get a hold of this piece, they push their leads to go into "overwrought" territory... it's strange, and not how Chess was invisiged

oh . . . . given how highly lena hall talks about herself, i thought she would be better. and darren criss looks like he is really struggling to reach the notes. meanwhile ramin karimloo continues to be amazing. if chess goes to broadway, i need hadley fraser to be in it with him, even though they played the same part in concert recently.

Just that part of Solea Pfeiffer singing "Someone Else's Story" made my ears bleed. She over emoted, through riffs in where not needed and ruined the song

If you saw Kerry Ellis, she sang her role perfectly.
