I love these little videos! I have just now finished my working week and sat down; my heart yearns to celebrate the Sabbath but my brains melted around 6pm. I can take in these important anecdotes and actually learn something. Thank you.
Luther and the Reformers collectively vowed that the scriptures alone would be their sole rule of faith and morals. But they failed to back it up. They left a great deal of Roman leaven in the Protestant lump, and now the whole loaf is thoroughly leavened; so much so that they are now capitulating to Rome and seeking ecumenical reunion. Surely the unrestrained wrath of God is not far off.
A couple of problems with this video: (1) I have never heard taught or have read that Luther heard a divine voice saying "the just shall live by faith," while climbing the stairs in Rome. Instead, God revealed this gospel truth to him while studying the actual passage in the Bible. (2) The passage is Romans 1:17 not Romans 1:16. These are critical errors in an otherwise enjoyable and informative series.
Chris Regas hey Chris, thanks for this. You are correct on the romans text. That was our mistake. Here are our references for the episode. The History of The Reformation - J.H. Merle D'Aubigne - Book II Chapter VI - Mentions how Luther heard as it were a voice from heaven as he was ascending pilates staircase The History of Protestantism - J.A. Wylie - Book V Chapters VI and VII - Wylie references the same passage as D'Aubigne The Great Controversy - E.G. White - Chapter VII Most modern Historians and History professors leave out the incident entirely. Cite Andrew C. Fix - Professor of History at Lafayette College lectures on the the renaissance, the Reformation and the rise of Nations but does not mention this incident. Professor Brad Gregory of Assitant Professor of History at Stanford University lectures on the History of Christianity in the Reformation Era but does not mention this incident either. Because most modern sources don't cite the incident it may not be as readily known but sources closer to the period in question (Aubigne wrote in 1832 and Wylie in 1878, E.G. White in 1888) reference the incident. As a rule of thumb sources closer to the period in questions are a more accurate historical source to use.
Leaders l say Most leaders are leading man down the wide path that leads to Hell Trust the Word of God and Eschew Evil and Follow your Spirit if you are Living For God and Want to be treated by others the Way you Treat Them. Habakkuk2:4. The just shall live by Faith.
Never mind the goid works Jesus commanded at Matthew 25:31-46! Never mind the ten commandments! Just believe in Jesus and sin all you want and still go to Heaven! Faith without morality. Faith without charity. This is the legacy of the "great" Martin Luther. "Martin Luther is in Hell and all who fillow him will surely join him there." --St. Padre Pio
