Today we’re going to take a look at something truly exciting that’s been developed by Toyota’s go-fast team, TRD. It’s the 2017 Toyota HiLux TRD.
    Wait, what?
Toyota Racing Development hasn’t really worked this new model over to within an inch of its life, and it really hasn’t done anything to make it a much sportier than the standard vehicle. But it is more stylish… right?

Yepp, TRD is amazing. We are Hilux exporter from Thailand and most customers want TRD kit on their Toyota Hilux Revo and Toyota Hilux Vigo. Thanks for sharing!

Better to spend your money on things that actually would enhance the vehicle, such as a bullbar, canopy, suspension upgrades, some decent tyres, the list is pretty much endless. Whatever floats thy boat.

I was so close to buying a Wildtrak because of all the bells and whistles it has! But I was very worried about durability and these reviews don't show that area. Here's what I did for my own durability research which you should also do yourself if you're thinking of spending a fortune for one of these cars. I test drove both cars, Used around 50-60k km and the Wildtrak has started making noises with loose interior plastics and it's got this shudder when the auto gears shifted. The Hilux on the other hand was still pretty much as you would get it new. I also joined Hilux and Ranger Facebook groups and quickly noticed how many complaints in durability there are in the Ranger community. While in the Hilux page, people who were having problems with their cars, their Hiluxs were like 500kkm plus old lol. Made it easy for me to put deposit down for the TRD =]

Still, these utes are overpriced in Australia. With the same price you can get a decently equipped F150 in America. Australian's obsession for utes is something I can not understand. The $60k AUD price tag is really hard to justify

  • @adelaideautowashes

Its not its separate TRD model, when I looked on the Hilux's webpage all the TRD pieces are actually just optional accessories. So its just a SR/SR5 Hilux with TRD pieces.

Ι think this review was fair and realistic: Toyota is the vehicle of choice in terms of ruggedness and reliability -but not in terms of ride comfort and amenities. Is the TRD better looking? Yes, it definitely is. Is the TRD worth the extra expense? Emphatically, no; buy some mods and/or accessories instead and you’ll be smarter for it.

I really like this generation Hilux. But this TRD seems a bit silly. They have fitted flares but keep SR5 spec wheels and tyres. It looks like the old base steel wheel models where the wheels were an inch inside the guards.

over 60k aud is really pricey.
My hilux 2.8 automatic (highest trim) in Malaysia only costs 42500 aud (after currency conversion), that's on the road price with insurance, registration, road tax, and VAT. But Malaysian version has these functions removed:
    1) Automatic climate control.
    2) Hill Descent Assist.
    3) Rear air conditioning.
    4) Cruise control.
    5) Floating entertainment system.
But it still has 7 airbags, rear differential lock, rear view camera, powered leather seats and comes standard with bedliner.
Since it is around 14k aud cheaper than the sr5 turbo diesel. I prefer having the functions removed than paying so much more lol.

They said they would conduct their own test to see if they'd get the same results. After reading comments saying this fix was only for European markets and not anywhere else I'm not sure if it's a fix world-wide. There was weight in the bed from the looks of it.

Why the hell would Americans want that overpriced garbage?! $53,000 for a Hilux vs $28,000 for a base model Silverado 1500?!.. What?!..

Simon Vance because why the fuck not? It ain’t garbage man, it’s one beautiful truck. Sure it’s pricey as hell but if I have more money, then I would instantly buy it.

Point taken. Garbage was the wrong word, they're not bad but they're absolutely way overpriced for what they are and the fact is people in australia are so used to being ripped off for certain vehicles they've forgotten what value for money actually is. I don't care what marketing BS Toyota uses..

The Hilux looks too much like a minivan. The trucks that toyota makes in the states are much better looking vehicles.

That sucks, TRD trickery indeed, I wish Toyota did something proper with TRD (wheres the turbo 86?!). It's like a 'premium' badge now (not performance) cashing in on its past pedigree, really poor.

Lame. Buy an SR5 and take it to Autocraze or someone similar. Will look and be way better than this.
It should at least come stock with aggressive AT tyres and a snorkel.

yeall might hate me after all will say. ive been around toyotas since kids. with the land cruiser from the 70's an up. it is not all about speed. power. luxury and comfort. the original idea was to get u a reliable vehicle that would not fail or quit on you when you had to drive over difficult terrain. that the ride was not comfy... uhhh hu. shit with that! and nowadays who drives or dirt roads on an everyday basis. if it is not the type of vehicle you need. then dont bother.

Tisk tisk Toyota. So it seems you've taken a page out of nismo's book huh? Throw on some body kit, add some colored highlights and pass it off as a performance variant... You disgust me.... Well they did call it a Toyota hilux with TRD accessories....

Diesel Particulate Filter clogging in HiLux 2.8, Prado and Fortuner occurs, Toyota knows it occurs, they have no solution and they sell the car any way, im not sure if this Hillux has the same issues, do not buy this car if it has the same dpf.

Perhapes get a Ford Ranger instead that's causes grass fires and can kill you, which has been recalled, has no fix and which they still sell, do your own research look up these defaults and make an informed decision.
