How about Toyota putting the engineers that made such a nice looking rollbar in charge of releasing an updated DPF?
Maybe one that doesn’t need a delete box for it to work properly?

Why aren’t they putting more power in theses utes. Cosmetics are nice but need more power. Especially on open road driving.

Lj Jones - I didn't notice anything wrong with it at 1080p, then again I came here for information on a truck not to critique and then whine about whether it would meet James Cameron's cinematography and sound standards or not....

I prefer the "ute" term. But calling it a "pickup" or even "pickup truck" makes more sense than just calling it "truck" by itself.

I love the rugged x, but I was expecting abit of a change with the interior. I’m not a fan of the media player, looks like there’s no apple car play either. But other than that pretty happy with it, hopefully I can get my hands on one.

Agreed. But my 2012 Prado (hilux too) KDJ150R hasn't got a pdf, it just has a known problem with weak pistons, that crack.... Well mine did, but do you think I toyota is paying for my engine to be fixed, NO.... And im left with an 8K+ bill.....
There is even a service bulletin out for the problem and in Asia they had a recall, but NOT here in Au! Im pissed!

No apple car play, no rain sensing wipers, a DPF from hell, no tailgate damper, terrible Bluetooth, just got mine it’s first service and the oil maintenance data incomplete message will not go off, no front sensors but apart from that it’s nice to drive

I think the Rugged X is a decent vehicle, though I'd disagree it is anything more than a stock vehicle with a few aftermarket mods. Still, nice to get these directly from the manufacturer. Still, my Ranger outperformed one on rough tracks the other week. I have better clearance, but it was the fact the Hilux traction control is completely off at the front wheels when the rear is locked that let it down. Performed very well, though.

On the plus side... at least the accessories "should" be fitted correctly, since my Toyota dealer couldn't fit my arb summit bar correctly...only after showing them a bunch of pics of other correctly fitted bars did they concede the bar needed adjusting... my advice is that you stipulate that the aftermarket supplier fits their own product (I'm sure the price is the same... the dealer just pockets the fitment cost by using their own staff and facilities vs paying the 3rd party)..... needless to say, things get complicated if items are not installed correctly and trying to figure out whom is responsible for correcting the issue

Why don’t the offer with the ruggered and ruggered X a 2-3in lift and 33in or 285/70 R17 from the factory. I have a current hilux with 32in tyres, no lift and it goes alright. Great to tow with but I’m not to fussed about it Offroad. I also have a lifted and locked 07 Triton with 33in tyres and full bar work. I still like it Offroad more than the hilux. Power wise the Triton with a tuned 3.2 and 3in exhaust kills the hilux but I find the hilux is let down by the auto gearbox as it just always wants to rev it head off.

Hassanal Asri my old XLT was a massive lemon, in 3 yrs 70000kms I went through 3 engines, blown turbo hose, sagging suspension, broken seats, broken fuel caps etc......, my current SR5 SHITS! all over the ranger, better fuel economy, more responsive engine, shit loads more reliable and tows my excavator better thanks to it's gearing.
When it comes to the two manufacturers it's pretty night and day who has the best track record

Yep 57 yep sounds like you got a Friday made vehicle mate don’t blame you for being pissed off with it if you had all those problems, but all manufacturers have there fair share of problems even the best ones, but only 3 makes I would personally own Toyota,Mazda and Isuzu as I’ve had good results form them over the last 14 yrs with little to no major issues.

This is how most car journalism works... Most car magazines (print or digital) unless they're large (usually in US, UK, JP or DE) and /or are of better-selling models don't buy or test themselves most of their cars for publication. Their "test" is on press events staged by the manufacturers in appropriate surroundings, like this one.
The exception would be non-profit review outlets, like US' Consumer Reports (both print and digital) which test much less models later than the other outlets, but do buy them from retailer / dealer stock to try to eliminate most bias. There may be other media equivalents elsewhere outside of North America, but I'm not certain.
Proof: at 4:56 the tester said "...Toyota insisted I should try this..". Also, there used to be a 1 hour / week commercial radio car show "in my neck of the woods" that went into detail when the reviewer / reporter went to such events, which could be done by country or region (like this one by Toyota Australia) or internationally (then international regions' reviewers / reporters rotate on either 1 or several days by region).
