How about Toyota putting the engineers that made such a nice looking rollbar in charge of releasing an updated DPF? Maybe one that doesn’t need a delete box for it to work properly?
Lj Jones - I didn't notice anything wrong with it at 1080p, then again I came here for information on a truck not to critique and then whine about whether it would meet James Cameron's cinematography and sound standards or not....
I love the rugged x, but I was expecting abit of a change with the interior. I’m not a fan of the media player, looks like there’s no apple car play either. But other than that pretty happy with it, hopefully I can get my hands on one.
guy proulx Agreed. But my 2012 Prado (hilux too) KDJ150R hasn't got a pdf, it just has a known problem with weak pistons, that crack.... Well mine did, but do you think I toyota is paying for my engine to be fixed, NO.... And im left with an 8K+ bill..... There is even a service bulletin out for the problem and in Asia they had a recall, but NOT here in Au! Im pissed!
No apple car play, no rain sensing wipers, a DPF from hell, no tailgate damper, terrible Bluetooth, just got mine it’s first service and the oil maintenance data incomplete message will not go off, no front sensors but apart from that it’s nice to drive
I think the Rugged X is a decent vehicle, though I'd disagree it is anything more than a stock vehicle with a few aftermarket mods. Still, nice to get these directly from the manufacturer. Still, my Ranger outperformed one on rough tracks the other week. I have better clearance, but it was the fact the Hilux traction control is completely off at the front wheels when the rear is locked that let it down. Performed very well, though.
On the plus side... at least the accessories "should" be fitted correctly, since my Toyota dealer couldn't fit my arb summit bar correctly...only after showing them a bunch of pics of other correctly fitted bars did they concede the bar needed adjusting... my advice is that you stipulate that the aftermarket supplier fits their own product (I'm sure the price is the same... the dealer just pockets the fitment cost by using their own staff and facilities vs paying the 3rd party)..... needless to say, things get complicated if items are not installed correctly and trying to figure out whom is responsible for correcting the issue
It’s not fair it is just not fair that the rogue, rugged and rugged X version are not available here in 🇯🇵 Japan 😭😭😭😭😭 any ways I’m getting mine soon I might just go for the TRD version 😁☺️
Mate your driving a regular hilux as the rugged and rogue models have black headlining. Everything from sound, visual and editing needs a major improvement.
Paul when are you going to review the Pajaro sport vs Ford Everest and remember size and displacement doest matter what is about the speed, fuel economy, technology and performance.
I am shocked, how did you guys manage to do an entire dual cab Ute test without a single pushbike in the tray, and no active wear, what has become of the world.
CarAdvice.com let’s be honest here, you guys are putting yourself out here, there will always be harsh critics like me, but it’s you lot making the videos. Just keep doing as you are, I will keep watching, for what infinitesimal amount that is worth 👍.
Why don’t the offer with the ruggered and ruggered X a 2-3in lift and 33in or 285/70 R17 from the factory. I have a current hilux with 32in tyres, no lift and it goes alright. Great to tow with but I’m not to fussed about it Offroad. I also have a lifted and locked 07 Triton with 33in tyres and full bar work. I still like it Offroad more than the hilux. Power wise the Triton with a tuned 3.2 and 3in exhaust kills the hilux but I find the hilux is let down by the auto gearbox as it just always wants to rev it head off.
I would have also liked to see it lifted to make clearling offroad obstacles a little easier but I think if I was going to spend the money on a factory offroader I would buy the Arctic Trucks version of of the hilux.
Should have developed a car to be more competitive with other Utes, mainly engine power and safety tech. Also fixing DPF issues wouldn't have gone astray. Just saying
Rear disk brakes!? Are you nuts... what is it with people wanting rear disk brakes? Big drum brakes works better when parking on incline with big trailers attached.
Just search Hilux DPF problem and see what pops up, great truck but this is a major problem that they are taking there time in fixing the issue, if there doing anything at all because they already have your money.
Majority of DPF issue occur when u driving short distance all the time.in order for the dpf to work properly the car need to be driven at least more then half an hour
why are you testing a car that are meant to be really used hard, with a little 70 kg man in instead of load it to the max inside and outside, and did you say that, that roll bar in the back only can handle 75 kg omg what is the point of having it there then, and did you say it only can load 200 kg in the bed, WHAT!!!???
Hassanal Asri my old XLT was a massive lemon, in 3 yrs 70000kms I went through 3 engines, blown turbo hose, sagging suspension, broken seats, broken fuel caps etc......, my current SR5 SHITS! all over the ranger, better fuel economy, more responsive engine, shit loads more reliable and tows my excavator better thanks to it's gearing. When it comes to the two manufacturers it's pretty night and day who has the best track record
Yep 57 yep sounds like you got a Friday made vehicle mate don’t blame you for being pissed off with it if you had all those problems, but all manufacturers have there fair share of problems even the best ones, but only 3 makes I would personally own Toyota,Mazda and Isuzu as I’ve had good results form them over the last 14 yrs with little to no major issues.
guy proulx true would be a laugh for sure, but thinking the electrics would fry if put into the sea , but that would be same for the rest as so much electronics
This is how most car journalism works... Most car magazines (print or digital) unless they're large (usually in US, UK, JP or DE) and /or are of better-selling models don't buy or test themselves most of their cars for publication. Their "test" is on press events staged by the manufacturers in appropriate surroundings, like this one. The exception would be non-profit review outlets, like US' Consumer Reports (both print and digital) which test much less models later than the other outlets, but do buy them from retailer / dealer stock to try to eliminate most bias. There may be other media equivalents elsewhere outside of North America, but I'm not certain. Proof: at 4:56 the tester said "...Toyota insisted I should try this..". Also, there used to be a 1 hour / week commercial radio car show "in my neck of the woods" that went into detail when the reviewer / reporter went to such events, which could be done by country or region (like this one by Toyota Australia) or internationally (then international regions' reviewers / reporters rotate on either 1 or several days by region).
I own a new sr auto 2.8 hilux.Underpowered high fuel consumption transmission ratio too high geared for towing.4wd system wont engage at times.Had numerous engine sensor failures and electrical faults dpf issues.Car only has 18000 kms on it.Unreliable pile of rubbish.
Ffs, instead of all this exterior "rugged looks" bullshit which cost more $$$, give us a more powerful engine. Fuck me most people will never take the damn thing off road anyway. That's all I ask :).
Toyota have lost the plot... It's only a matter of time before Australians realise they have lost there touch. VW Amorock and Ford Ranger smash Toyota Hilux's these days.
You just can’t go wrong with Toyota. Japanese makes the most reliable cars and that will last forever. Unlike ford ranger which is a gas guzzler and have defective gearbox and flywheel issues.
Amit Singh Yes you can go wrong! I have a late model Prado KDJ150R and the motor blew so yeah, "Oh what a feeling!" NOT! Check this out, lots of problems with the new Hilux! ruclips.net/video/SaW1XFxgrOM/видео.html
Jason kable And? Go check out all the facebook pages for people that have "lemon" 4D4 motors..... Do you know there was a recall for the issues they have with CRACKED pistons in Asia? And what did AU do, NOTHING! That is POOR customer service..... And in the meantime I have an $8,000 bill to fix crap-otas problem.... "Oh what a feeling"
it just goes to show how important it is spending more money on marketing that it is is on cars. When the blind crap on about unbreakable Hiluxs. That was in regards to previous generations that were low tech yet ppl genuinely still believe this holds true. Amazing.
What a beast! Looks much better than Ford Ranger.
How about Toyota putting the engineers that made such a nice looking rollbar in charge of releasing an updated DPF?
Maybe one that doesn’t need a delete box for it to work properly?
why is there no dual air con?
What ‘s the best of these. Rugged or Rugged X ????
Is the DPF rugged ?
Why aren’t they putting more power in theses utes. Cosmetics are nice but need more power. Especially on open road driving.
Ben Sanders lol what cosmetics. They like dinosaurs
Um they are protection parts
Still no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?
No 😭
How do you put a canopy on this prettied up Norma lux
So many audio and visual issues in this video.
Apologies. We had issues with the in car microphone.
not to mention the lack of insect repelent... lol
😅 that was WITH insect repellent! The flies in Parachilna are next level.
Lj Jones - I didn't notice anything wrong with it at 1080p, then again I came here for information on a truck not to critique and then whine about whether it would meet James Cameron's cinematography and sound standards or not....
Are those pickups or utes?
And there only 2/3 the size of an American style pickup truck.
I prefer the "ute" term. But calling it a "pickup" or even "pickup truck" makes more sense than just calling it "truck" by itself.
I love the rugged x, but I was expecting abit of a change with the interior. I’m not a fan of the media player, looks like there’s no apple car play either. But other than that pretty happy with it, hopefully I can get my hands on one.
No CarPlay yet 😭
James KS
Stay clear of them! Hilux is crap!

the bull bar showing at 4.02 is not the one shown during the walk round at the start?
looks like a stock bull bar.
No apple car play, no rain sensing wipers, a DPF from hell, no tailgate damper, terrible Bluetooth, just got mine it’s first service and the oil maintenance data incomplete message will not go off, no front sensors but apart from that it’s nice to drive

Why amarok doesn't have rear airbags? Much better value otherwise.
Seth Mcfarlane does a great Australian impression, but why is he driving pickups around?
Just wondering when toyota is goin to put a descent motor in these
Hope the fixed the DPF issues
Toyota is behind the curve
is this available in philippines
I am shocked, how did you guys manage to do an entire dual cab Ute test without a single pushbike in the tray, and no active wear, what has become of the world.
Paul only wears his active wear to the cafe.
CarAdvice.com well, that is a reassuring thought, I’m glad that he is making good use of all the items in his wardrobe.
😅
CarAdvice.com let’s be honest here, you guys are putting yourself out here, there will always be harsh critics like me, but it’s you lot making the videos. Just keep doing as you are, I will keep watching, for what infinitesimal amount that is worth 👍.

Vince Maghanoy don't think so.......
filmed on entry level camera, sound by potato lol
Sorry 😭 we had issues with in car audio
na just taking the piss guys. gotta have a bit of fun ay ;P
Most hilux drivers havent driven a well built and a awesome off road drive to realise that theyre cars are 10 years behind in technology
I would have also liked to see it lifted to make clearling offroad obstacles a little easier but I think if I was going to spend the money on a factory offroader I would buy the Arctic Trucks version of of the hilux.
What the hell is Seth McFarlane doing in a car review? :) Jokes aside really nice review...
Oh that Toyota feeling when you’ve got the best fuck the rest “oh what a feeling Toyota”
I dont need a truck with carpet (shudder!), or computers or four doors! And I dont need it larger! Power, strength, reliability and capability.
Should have developed a car to be more competitive with other Utes, mainly engine power and safety tech. Also fixing DPF issues wouldn't have gone astray. Just saying
Seth McFarlane doing Toyota reviews?
Or his Aussie twin...
Try to the the new 2018 Subaru Outback range review, that will be a good video
I hope Toyota has improved the ride quality.
Rear disk brakes!? Are you nuts... what is it with people wanting rear disk brakes? Big drum brakes works better when parking on incline with big trailers attached.
Drums will not work fresh out of water.
Maybe Toyota should invest there money into fixing there current huge problem with this current engine first...THE DPF issue!!!!!
Troy Carney what ia DPF
Is this anything to do with them burning oil? Ive seen at least 10 since this new shape came out with huge clouds of blue smoke coming out the back.
Just search Hilux DPF problem and see what pops up, great truck but this is a major problem that they are taking there time in fixing the issue, if there doing anything at all because they already have your money.
Mark Denyer if I do a lot of city driving my DPF kicks in and burns the shit off for a few minutes then it stops
Majority of DPF issue occur when u driving short distance all the time.in order for the dpf to work properly the car need to be driven at least more then half an hour
Rear drums are better for hand brake. Every car Ives owned with rear disks the hand brake is not effective for parking.
Toyota, please sell these in America soon!
Ironically, some Australians are disappointed that they can't get the F-Series/Silverado/Ram at affordable prices. The grass is always greener...
amazing toyota is the best
Hilux rogue called the hilux roco in some countries
who likes that white meter cluster ?
And in the states, the Tacoma gets 17 mpg. I’d rather buy this.
why are you testing a car that are meant to be really used hard, with a little 70 kg man in instead of load it to the max inside and outside, and did you say that, that roll bar in the back only can handle 75 kg omg what is the point of having it there then, and did you say it only can load 200 kg in the bed, WHAT!!!???
You need to put your listening ears on.
Recovery hooks but guess Toyota thinks ya won’t travel solo so no need a winch lmao
My Ranger 3.2 2016 is the best Pickup but the worst brand Gear box wont last 3 to 5 years.Dont buy Ranger Better Hilux but laks technology.
Hassanal Asri : 2011 models of the ranger and Bt50’s still running around just fine , so you better make that 7 years .
Hassanal Asri my old XLT was a massive lemon, in 3 yrs 70000kms I went through 3 engines, blown turbo hose, sagging suspension, broken seats, broken fuel caps etc......, my current SR5 SHITS! all over the ranger, better fuel economy, more responsive engine, shit loads more reliable and tows my excavator better thanks to it's gearing.

guy proulx it’s a storm in a tea cup really.

So the course was designed by Toyota.

Pleeeeeeease, enough with the quick cutting panning shots. Makes me feel ill.
Классная машина, жаль только дорога очень.
he looks like seth mcfarlane
dude looks like Reese Mastons dad.
U mean 2 tell me that u get those cheap 16 inch rims & tires on a 55K truck!
Probably still flips over going around a corner. Awesome sticker kit lol
Hard core until the DPF shits itself.
I am more in tech like backing camera and surrounding senser this equipment is better be practical.
Never heard a sound so bad, couldn't watch until the end...
Tear off mudflaps first time out.
What the hell is wrong with the camera man twitching constantly
I’d just buy the standard SR5 and do my own mods , these 3 are ugly.
Could of pumped out a 3.2 ltr sick of this 2.8 rubbish while ranger and amerok pump out more powerful gear
are they? ford good at bull shit. 2.8 has more power than old 3.0ltr
Hilux Rubbish looks like a boat front end is too long
incoming triggered ranger/amarok fanboys
Very average camera work and what’s wrong with the sound?
The hilux design team needs the SACK
Gets worse each year
Ffs, instead of all this exterior "rugged looks" bullshit which cost more $$$, give us a more powerful engine. Fuck me most people will never take the damn thing off road anyway. That's all I ask :).
it a rocco
Background music while he’s talking is stupid and distracting. Stop that shit please you’re a professional channel supposedly.
Nah...My GQ patrol will shit on these in the bush 😎
I can do this in my fortuner
You’d hope so, given it’s a heavier version of the HiLux.

5mm steel nash plate
Steel rock sliders
2 inch lift.
Yes easy
Poor effort by Toyota. Once again they just change cosmetics after 3 years of R&D HAHAHAHAHA. Ranger and Amarok are better buys.
It’s all about sponsorship & endorsements🤑
Wow line up suckers.... .....
gimmic crap same engine
Toyota buggered and toyota x tra buggered.......
