Caleruega Church, also known as the Transfiguration chapel, is a sight to behold, perched on top of the highest hill overlooking breathtaking views surrounding it. It is one of the most sought after wedding venues and retreat places as it provides a perfect blend of spiritual and tranquil atmosphere plus a distinct feeling of intimacy.
(Urban) Legend has it that a considerable number of couples wed in this church, ended-up parting ways eventually. We certainly were oblivious to this as Caleruega became our refuge, our sanctuary, our happy place. It’s our favorite escape when things get hard or when we just simply wanted a world of our own. Caleruega gave us the opportunity to free ourselves from anything & everything that weighed us down. Yes, we ended parting ways too.
“Caleruega” probably took me longest to finish writing- a little over two years to be exact. It has become my beacon of hope when the world was caving in on me, leaving me with nothing but a tiny flicker of light that I needed to keep burning. In the process, it has become my foothold where reconciling with, and embracing my aches and pains, made me appreciate that the true essence of loving is simply loving bereft of conditions. It made me realize that after the pain, Caleruega has become a state of mind where I found my heart and myself thankful that I have loved and have given my all.
Fast forward to the present, it dawned on me that Caleruega is the end point of a roller coaster ride of emotions and happiness and tears. It defined me as a person capable of rising up & moving on yet again and be thankful that somehow, “natutuhan buo magmahal” at one point in my life.
I also wanted to infuse that “Caleruega wedding feels & vibe” into the song hence the vocal/choral arrangements performed by Acapellago which added more color & texture to the song.
