Yes acetone should work..sometimes you have to “break the seal” first by filing off the top coat. (Soak a piece of cotton in acetone and wrap the finger if foil.
Oh you poor thing. I have 31 years of being a nail tech and educator in the industry. I wish you were in Florida, because I could fix that for you….but you’re not lol so try this 👇🏻 At home you will need to file the shine off of the gel polish so the polish is porous. Acetone won’t penetrate the gel if you don’t etch up the polish. Cut approximately a 4 x 4 square of aluminum foil, soak a cotton ball in 100% pure acetone, place it on the etched gel polish, and then wrap the nail with the aluminum foil. The foil will help the acetone retain the warmth of your body temp which makes the removal process faster. You will need an orange wood stick, or a tool used to push back the cuticle. Be gentle & lightly push the gel off of your natural nail as the acetone softens it. Hope this helps!!
Soak it off Laura .. soak a cotton pad in acetone and lay it on the surface of the nail then wrap it in foil .. for 15 minutes. And use a file and file the gel off when you take off the foil and cotton you may have to repeat it a couple times…
It can fall off naturally and may hurt but if it’s infected the infection will make its way from the fingers to the hand to the arm, etc. I would suggest waiting a few days to see if it infected or just going to fall off
File it. They would use an electric file to remove the top layer anyway. So file the top coat off, then soak a piece of cotton in nail polish remover; place it on top of the nail bed and wrap a small piece of aluminum foil around it. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and remove the polish with an orange wood stick. Scrape it off. Soak it more if you have to. And scrape. It’ll come off.
Unfortunately it will fall off, it has most likely been too long. I had a similar thing happen with my toe nail. If you didn't damage your nail bed, it will grow back, but if you damaged it, it may foever be weird. Sorry love
Yes! The same happened to my thumbnail. I slammed it in the heavy door of a two door Buick in the 80s when I was little. It fell off and grew back but but the nail bed always look weird afterwards.
@@Floraa152I have an early 90s Chevy and did the same thing with both my pointer fingers. Mine looked the same as hers and my nail is still there but grows funky
Keep the area clean and it might fall off or it might not, there are lots of great suggestions here. But as a previois Child Carr Practitioner, "it'll be fine." (Ross Ghellher, fine. But fine)
nail tech here, unfortunately soaking with acetone with most gels will not break down most gel products that are cured under a light. my recommendation would be to file product off with a regular nail file, avoid using a drill tho!
Soak in acetone then use a hot needle to drain the blood. Regardless your nail is going to grow out and fall off but puncturing it makes it less painful.
It'll heal on its own, I bet. Had a nail rip off getting ready for prom in HS when the acrylic got stuck on my mirror. Doesn't take long to grow back and hurts significantly less than you might think. Keep an eye on it for any signs of an infection. Make sure you're up to date on your shots since you're not disclosing what bit you....
You might have to buy a gel removal kit and do it yourself 😭 I'm not sure how good the at home ones are, but it's probably better than nothing. Just be careful doing it so you don't make the owie bigger!
Your nail will fall off. When I was in ballet one of my toenails got super bruised and I didn’t know because I had nail polish on it and was in point rehearsal all day. I had to heat up a sewing needle to melt a hole in my nail and drain it. It relieved the pressure immediately and I kept putting antibiotic ointment through the hole and I never had a problem. I’m not medical professional but it worked for me. I’m sure if a nurse or doctor sees this they are going to yell at me lol
Acetone the gel off and pick it off yourself then quickly to Urgent Care to drill the nail. The alternative is to do it yourself (after you get the gel off) use a heated needle to melt the mail until you get blood release. Needle in a candle usually does it.
Use a lighter and a bent paper clip or a needle at home. The piercing of the nail won't hurt at all. What hurts is squeezing the nail to squeeze the blood out once you have the hole. Did this for a toenail. The toenail has come back and looks healthier than the others ngl.
You could try acetone or if you’re really desperate you could try using a cuticle pusher to break the seal. 😬 Best of luck no matter what you decide to do 💯🍀🤞🏼
I had it happen when my toe was slammed in a concrete door as a kid snd my entire big toe nail did end up falling off. As an adult i slammed my ring finger in a folding chair, it did not fall out, i iced it a lot and it looked ugly for awhile ajd it eventually grew out but much slower than my other nails. Good luck!
I shut my thumb in the door last spring and it looked just like that! It just grew out. It's like a giant blood blister. It may fall off or not, mine didn't and I fully believe it was bcs of the gel polish holding it on lol by mid fall it grew all the way out! It's just really ugly for awhile😂
Heal naturally and will fall off. Keep a bandaid on when it starts to get loose so it doesn't go before its ready.... I've been bit by all kinds of animals on the tips of my fingers.... usually all or part falls off whether you drain it or not..... draining it just relieves pressure and pain. You're welcome 😊
Your poor finger! ❤ It will probably grow out but your nail bed won't heal the same. I SLAMMED my same finger in a car door. My nail didn’t fall off but my nail grows pointed now instead of curved like the others. Ngl i cried for an hour it hurt so bad.
Take a nail file and try to file down as much of the gel as possible... then soak in acetone and cover the bowl and your finger and sit for about 20 min. Take a cottonball after and just wipe it off... not sure if it will take the polish off completely, but hopefully it will enough so you can get your nail drained. Good luck!
Get a cotton ball and soak it with acetone and put it on your finger and wrap your finger with foil and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. It should come right off.
Watch for infection. If it’s been opened at all don’t soak in any chemicals or dirty water bc it can cause infection. Most important is that you don’t want your finger to become infected. The nail if not infected will do it’s thing. Fall off or not, infection is the biggest risk here. If they did puncture it, keep it protected from dirty anything getting in.
The damage from the bite has very likely injuried the nail bed. Kind of like stubbing your toe. Part if not all of the nail will likely fall off. Be kind to the nail bed and keep it clean as the nail grows out. Especially if the new nail grows in under the current nail. Soak off the gel manicure. When they go to drain it, its going to hurt like nothing youve felt before, be ready. You may want to have some gauze and sports tape (only sticks to itself, not you) ready for a cushion option to protect your tender finger tip while you heal up.
That's what I asked. Any kind of bite should get antibiotics and if it's been 10 years since tetanus shot she needs one too. Also, it sounds like she needs a Primary care physician. Bc she sounds like she's always going to the urgent care. To be honest unrengt care sucks.
I know I'm late to the saga, but I didn't see the end of this coming from the most recent. When you say "bit" by a car door? You'll survive, it's basically a bruise under the nail. The last time this happens to me, I got.. "bit" by a hammer. I didn't lose the nail but it broke where the blood clot /bruise was. Where the nail broke, the blood was grainy and crumbled out, similar to sand after the beach.. The nail grew back just fine. Every time it's happened, car doors, house doors, hammers, nail guns, someone's face that got I the way.. 😂 Jk
Unfortunately it is likely to come off either way because it’s down at the nail bed. Happened on my big toe and my dad uses a heated up safety pin to drain it. Sweet relief!! But also, bye bye nail 😢
It will most likely fall off. It looks like your matrix got damaged and a new nail will grow under the old for a little while and eventually the old one will get loose and you can gently pull it off, as long as it is not painful to do so. As long as you dont get an infection, you will be alright and it shouldn't need to be drained. Your body should heal itself. Your nail will fully heal in about 4 months, as that is the average time it takes for the nail plate to replace itself.
Soak it in acetone just that finger to get the nail off maybe for like 15 minutes and it should come off. It’s just a guess on the time it might be done within five minutes.
I slammed my thumb in a car door.. didnt drain it, i was in pain for over 4 months and my nail finally fell off as it was naturally pushed away from the cuticle. New nail but i kept the one that fell off! 😂😂😂
I would at least soak it in Epsom salt . My son ran over his big toe with a heavy cart. His toe nail looked awful. The doctor said to keep it clean and soak in Epson salt. His nail didn't fall off though.
I’m a semi expert ( friend of medical and Venomous animal experts. ) you’ve been envenomated. Probably by an arthropod if I had to guess. So here’s the deal you’re gonna be inflamed. You’re gonna be sore. The nail might come off. But… you’re gonna be ok. If soreness starts to travel up the arm or nausea or vomiting happens go back to the ER or urgent care. In the meantime, use an anti inflammatory drug. (Allergy meds would be good). Also Tylenol should help. Best of luck! Venom sucks!
Narrr just leave it, U know once I danced hard for 6 hours straight at a rave.... definitely not straight and when I took my sock off when I got home whole big toe had come off....so hey no stress it's no biggie
GO TO THE ER! We have a little cautery pen that quickly & mostly painlessly burns a little hole through the nail so all the blood can drain & keep draining to relieve the pain.
All right I had a similar situation. So you have two options and they're both going to be uncomfortable. First option is to try to file the gel down. Second option is to try to peel it off. Both will hurt and both may damage your nail beds, but your finger looks infected and definitely needs to be treated. Believe me once you hit the pus coming out of it and it turns slightly greenish it will be a lot more uncomfortable.
