- Otomo is the Big Blue Blob of Shogun 2 as they can Conquer (most of) Kyushu by 1545! As one of the best playing tall clans in Shogun 2 the Otomo can also play wide by capturing 6 provinces by the winter of 1545. I hope you find this Otomo Starting Guide both informative and entertaining comment below which clan you want me to make a guide on next!

Otomo campaigns are always 1v10. Super fun to watch
And on legendary they're a great challenge
I feel like unless you’re the Oda it happens for most legendary campaigns lol but yeah the Otomo do really like to win battles when outnumbered but Tercos and Donderbus help make those victories possible
Diplomacy also. Everyone hates you, so you can't buy time to build up or secure one of two fronts like the other clans.
This is made up slightly by having the crazy rich 3 provinces on the top left of Kyushu and sealing of the strait with that one matchlock boat, but still
@@HungTran-gz5em Exactly
@@dusk6159not only on Legendary level...
Glad to see people still playing this 10 years game!
Hell yeah Shogun 2 is amazing
easily the best of the shoguns
@@ryuhanja3415idk man fall of the samurai very good
@@tommyortiz6623 well technically it is a DLC for Shogun 2, therefore just making shogun 2 even better :)
@@tommyortiz6623 Dont get me wrong I like me some fall of the samurai. Alot of really cool new features but the core Shogun Experience is where its at for me. The longer I play a Fots campaign the more I miss katana and yari unit battles. Sometimes the gunpower battles in fots are over too quickly for my taste!
Okay. Step 2. How do you survive the trade route raiding from ouchi and Mori when they inevitably declare war in a few turns?
Definitely play tall for a bit so you can build towards nanban quarter get the nanban trade ships and rule the waves of Western Japan :D On the harder difficulties: yeah, the AI cheats will enable them to be incessant pain, you can expand into Honshu and wipe them out or perhaps send missionaries and start revolutions in their provinces.
Incredible vid. I think after the first battle I would have to turn off my computer and take some deep breaths, I respect your calm
Thank you, yeah those first couple of battles are stressful to say the least, but if ya win Kyushu is free real estate!
Great video man. I love the Otomo. It's always cool to capture the black ship with a fleet of nanban trade ships. 😁
Btw, I highly highly recommend using fire by rank* with the matchlocks since they can fire two volleys at the enemy unit which will do wonders against morale.
Yep fire by rank for sure definitely agree with you just can be tricky to use always but certainly is beneficial
If the Sagara attack you in the 2nd battle, the fight is actually way easier.
I just love the intro, and keep watching it over and over. Especially the "Devout servants of God!" cracks me up every time. Especially with the in game character's face on screen. xD
*Sad Shimazu noises
*Wimpers in Shoni
otomo with expanded pack mod + legendary is almost impossible to survive the early game
Ooo I’ll have to try that!
Yari Ashigaru can run in Yari Wall, you just need to tap R after you select a destination. They can't run if you direct them to attack an enemy tho, so have them run up to them before clicking attack order.
Yep that’s true good point to mention
New to Shogun 2 and Total War in general really, can't yet imagine playing like this without pausing 100 times just to get my bearings. Insanely pro gameplay.
It takes time you’ll get there :) thank you for the view and also it’s fine to pause and take your time in the battles always
I love the Otomo
Deus vult Tennōheika Banzai!!!!!
DEUS VULT!!!
oh wait... this is Japan...
DEUS BANZAAAAAAI!!!
Honestly i do this with finances: on even turns i go greedy, highest tax rate. On odd turns i go normal taxes and if any province is still red (which mean rebellion over the end turn) i dont tax it at all. The amount of money one makes is huge
Yes its helpful but if you do that you hurt your growth in settlements for further income down the line, but yeah in tight situations its nice though
@@TripleZHacker doing in the start of the campaign, when one os blitzing trough to get territory when everyone is unhappy and late game when you are just plowing through the rest of Japan and want to make reserve armies. During the "Pax nipónica" i dont use it, so that town can grow
Is it better to use the general to besiege Tsukushi on turn 1 rather than waiting for them to attack you? It's an offensive siege true, but you won't have to fight as many units, and the enemy won't replenish their troops over the end turn.
Possibly but the offensive siege is rough against such odds and it’s easier to defeat the small field army they start with I also can’t remember if when you do get attacked your army doesn’t reinforce the battle. Would have to recreate a see. Offensive sieges are painful though as you likely would take more causalities as opposed to a field battle, but if it works then do that!
The problem I have with legendary is you have to abuse the AI and usually can't fight using normal tactics. It's a fun challenge, but doing things like making enemies archers waste ammo, luring units 1 at a time, etc. gets old. The only time I appreciate legendary is in Warhammer playing Skaven or Beastmen where you actually want the AI to throw full stakes at you constantly.
Can't get through the first battle on hard, no idea how you managed this in legendary.
Edit: ok i finally won, i got lucky enough that the general rushed right into a volley and their yari decided to snipe by blowing hot air from a distance while their archers melee'd instead
Long may the Christian weaboo empire thrive! Nice watch. It makes me want to do yet another Otomo campaign.
Yeah try it! I always love playing as Otomo
This is a nice guide. Only just shy of a decade after I needed it. I always struggled with the Otomo when they were first released. Now I am currently doing a legendary Otomo on Japan Expanded, and ho boi is it slow. I ak roflstomping my way through southwestern japan, owning all of kyushu, Just resently conquering Shikoku, and just every turn moving one province up Honshu (occasionally nabbing 2 provinces in a turn.) Last time I played that campaign was over a year ago before I started playing it again a few days back. That first trun I was staring at it and just humming and awing at it, having no idea about the state of things. Once I am done with that, I think I will give Legendary Oda a try again.
Is Japan expanded just a mod that adds provinces to Japan?
Deus Vult
You love to see it, Otomo stuff
Of course always love playing as them :)
Okay, I'll try this tactic tonight) My first try ended with fullstack of Ouchi army in my northern borders, second session ended with fullstack Simazu samurais from southern borders((
I just learnt how to really play this game, after 10y of playing it, watching this video
where´s the sense in moving your matchlocks and bow inf so often? As far as i can tell, they´re out of range for most time and if they can shoot your´re moving them right away. Seems a bit ineffective to me? can´t you just position them, let them shoot for a while and then retreat in order to get them off from melee?
I swear my rng is so bullshit in the battle against the shoni, my yari alwas start to flee too early and then im just fcked as hell haha... i play on hard, i have no idea how it would be on legendary
It’s really tough for sure, recommend playing very slowly and precisely~ Yeah have to keep general close so their morale remains fine too
The morale debuff from matchlocks affects your own units too, so be careful not to have your own yari in the line of fire.
Christkrieg
:D
Otomo clan is baller because you get early access to gun powder units. but end game the HOJO are the winners for ranged units because of the mortars.
lol just loaded the game up again recently and finally beat it.. however now seeing this video i'm thinking this is how u actually play, especially how u did ur battles
Glad you beat it and what do you mean lol
@@TripleZHacker meaning how u manage ur battles lol i wish i clicked that fast but i can't focus on that much in game but i try.
@@jokerrhe oh it takes time best thing is you can practice custom battles sometimes or just pause often to help with the micro! Most important thing is you enjoy the game and if you have any goals you focus on reaching those :)
Your playing skill during battle is like Koreans when playing Warcraft 😳
Your gameplay is crazy as heck
😆 thanks I hope you enjoy it!
Expanded Japan made me sweat bullets... and cannonballs...
Will shogun 3 came out?
I assume they would likely make Medieval 3 first, but who knows at this point. I bet its Medieval 2 total war remaster or something Three Kingdoms related.
When he blocked the canal 😂
your wild clicking back and forward makes me dizzy
D: sorry legendary be like that :p
Oh no, looks like I’ve got to get good at Total War games because I’m terrible at high difficulty battles xD
Hehe you can play on any difficulty for sure! I just did it on legendary for the challenge and to show it’s possible for any of the difficulty levels :)
Is there a way to change the Otomo clan flag to black background with white insignia?
Unsure maybe with modding?!
Praise be to Otomo 🙏
🙏
Thats not whole kyushu in 3 turns 😊
Yeah it’s 5 provinces in like 2-3 turns anything else is impossible but it’s the majority of Kyushu and the best start possibly for Otomo! :)
Good to see you back Triple!
glad to be back c:
Zzz I knew u r one of us 😂
Can Otomo convert to Buddhism?
I don't believe so
Heretic ❗️❗️
where is the save file in your server
I think I replied to you on the server~
You're so good 🥲
Thank you :)
🔥🔥🔥
good guide
Nice to see you back man
Thanks!
dude please tell me how you micromanage this well, I can barely micro manage yari ashigaru and a single cav unit and for some people like myself who suck at micro managing all your cities you can make the Itu your vassal to get honor.
Lots of practice :) definitely play multiplayer as it helps with micro because you are facing real opponents but also setting up battles against the AI memorizing your hot keys/setup and then practicing your reaction times! Also play on x4 speed you will have to react very quickly against the AI!
I see, alright I will try that
