It's able to produce about 300 Watt. It depends on the wind. But it’s enough to charge normal car batteries and so you can consume a lot of energy in a short period. And it’s surely enough to start your computer for 2 hours a day, or to charge a mobile, or to have light for reading the newspapers and to have a look at your pretty wife.

no no no, it did not may 300w(need very high speed 13>m/s). This area blade very small. Max 10-15w. NOT 300w

We used an old alternator from a Simca 1000. We assume a useable power of min. 200W in winds about 15-20mph. Our idea has two goals. At first it is a drawing sample in a new AutoCAD 2011 training-video. These videos will be seen millions of times all over the world. This chance is us our second goal. We found that it’s very easy to build and the materials can be found on auto graveyards all over the world. We hope that lots of people will use this construction and build their own Gwindoline.

Welcome Friends, 100.000 views - I thank you all. Especially your interest in green energy is warming my soul and gives me hope for the future.
A main brain in developing these turbines is my friend Richard Schultes.
So if you have technical questions, please write to richardschultes@yahoo.com.

I had thought of a vertical wind turbine similar to a biscuit fan, and wondered if it had been done by someone...great design with the barrel! There seem to be many advantages over the typical "pinwheel" design...the flickering of sunlight that bothers some people should be much less...also, it has to be safer for birds, and more durable...also, no need to face it into the wind, as it is always able to catch wind from any direction. Another idea I had has to do with the generator. I thought of a design where the distance of the fixed magnets from the rotor can be varied. In light winds, the magnets could be more distant from the rotor, allowing free rotation and the production of some electricity, however little. As the wind increases, the magnets, by means of a governor (either mechanical or electronic), could be brought closer to the rotor, producing more current, and acting as somewhat of a brake so that the turbine doesn't spin too fast. However, I don't do any of this, just think about it.

This will never work. . ..The power output would be so small that it would be a huge waste of money.
A car alternator spins at a min of 1000 rpm and its power output becomes maxed out at a much higher rpm.
1000 rpm is approx 170 rpm per second.
    .
What you have done, is taken a slow turning trashcan that may reach 20 rev per second at its very best in
high winds, and stepped it DOWN about 10 to 1 to the alternator. This will turn the alternator slow. Not enough
If you get more than15 or 20 watts out of this thing, I think you will be doing extremely good.
What looks good on paper doesn't mean reality is there.
Great design, but non-functional. You have here a nice spinning ornament that looks cool and fools
the fools that want free energy

Can you provide me efficient design for low torque turbines

    • @woodenclocks6531
      @woodenclocks6531 3 года назад +4

      @@arifcrafts3961
First you need a generator/alternator rated at the voltage you are using.
Second you need the alternator to be turning at least idle speed. .. 1000 rpm.
Third. How fast does your vertical turbine turn? 10rps? That's very fast.
Probably 5rps in a high wind. 3 rps is closer to reality. That is 180rpm.
Forth. You need 1000rpm but have 180rpm. That calls for a 6:1 pully ratio.
Fifth. What i said above is all based upon a system with no load at all. With a load, that rpm will be slowed down to maybe 2rps. Which slows down you genetator to about 700 rpm.
Just because it is turning, doesnt mean it is charging batteries. It takes about 16 to 18. Volts to charge a 12v battery.
There is a huge reason why sellers and makers do not post windspeed vs power output. Because it takes a huge amount of wind just to get adequate power from the turbine
Further down in the messages, the writer corrects someone and says he got 10 to 13 watts of power, not 300. This correction sounds about right. 10 to 13 watts of power.

Coloque um eixo em cada uma para que elas se movimentem independentes, abrindo a favor do vento e fechando contra o vento
Com isso vai diminuir o arrasto aerodinâmico aumentando a eficiência.
Mas o projeto é show por ser simples e eficaz.

Nice work, especially the proper CAD modeling and the use of 5 sails. I am a bit concerned that it will flutter in strong winds... If so you might want to add support to the sail ends. I am basing this on experience - my dad and I built something very similar when I was a kid, using 3 aluminium sails, and the bearing and main pully from a washing machine drum - Looks like you also used a washing machine drum pully?. We mounted it around 5m up on a steel pole anchored to the ground. I like Savonius turbines because they are simple and easy to make.

The bearings and the shaft must suit each other. We used a 60mm-pipe from a building scaffold. The two “square flange mounted bearings” can be easily bought in different shops for mechanical parts. Search for a local dealer on google. When you finished the assembly you have to balance it. For this put the whole thing in a horizontal position and look where turning stops. On that side reduce weight until it stops without turning back. For further details contact me: info.at.computerstall.ch

Only one-quarter right. I'm a pragmatist, not ignorant. And I'm more on the libertarian side of the Republican Party. I don't believe the central planners should be wasting tax payer money on expensive and unreliable "alternative energy" projects that are largely owned by Obama bundlers/campaign donors and usually end in bankruptcy while said bundlers/donors walk away with golden parachutes. The USA is the Saudi Arabia of natural gas and shale oil/tar sands. That's where we should be focusing.

If you consider CO2 a pollutant and not plant food, then yes, we should pollute. Oil is a wonder of nature. It's relatively easy to extract and refine, and the resultant fuels are highly energy dense and easily transportable. One theory is that the inner crust is an oil factory, continually producing oil, and as we've seen, replenishing previously exhausted oil fields. We should do practical things to remove the bad stuff from exhaust, but CO2 is not one to worry over.

*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity. And only at costs above 1$/kWh!*
There is hardly any wind near the ground. And it is also very gusty, which extremely reduces the lifetime of the turbines.
If you don't have to be self-sufficient in electricity, you shouldn´t use small wind turbine, but install solar panels.
*With solar panels, you can reliably generate electricity for about 5-10 cents/kWh over a period of 25 years!*

This appeals to me. I'm really interested in lowering my electricity bill and this seems like a good bet because it wouldn't cost much to build one of these in my backyard since its very windy there. My only concern is with certifying this operation. In order to be considered a micro producer of electricity in Portugal my power company sends needs to certify the equipment and approve my ability to sell them my generated power, and since this is a homemade "power plant" would they approve this?
