I disagree with Jeff on a few of his calls. By saying that it isn't a fair fight for being a man down is incorrect. The All Blacks are the ones responsible for that and they served the consequences of it. Furthermore, if any team wasn't playing on a fair playing field was Ireland as they there should have been a red card for the hit on Mack Hansen and a penalty try for the tackle on Ringrose off the ball
The All Blacks need to reflect on their discipline and have suffered the consequences of some pretty malicious tactics at times

All that Irish squad would need for motivation this week is to listen to Jeff Wilson. Such a warped self consoling view on what happened. Red cards can always change the nature/outcome of any game but throwing it in effectively as the only reason as to why the all blacks lost which is what he was inferring is surprisingly disingenous and poor sportmanship. Im surprised to hear it from a former great who should know better and give a more measured view. Isaac Boss put him well and truly in back in his box. Hope most AB fans don't reduce that game to cards alone I know they know better. Sometimes a team is just better on a given day. There seems to be more important issues with that AB squad to address than ill discipline.

  • @Paul-te8mz
    @Paul-te8mz Год назад +16

It is a wonderful insight into the NZ mentality, that a red card is viewed by NZ commentators as a compete accident of fate, something like a stroke of luck for the other team, which they are not worthy of and which gives them an unfair advantage whereas it is actually a response to a team cynically and illegally trying to gain an advantage by physically assaulting a member of the other team in a manner which if not on a field of play might well result in a criminal conviction. NZ commentator says "You can't say it is a fair fight" after the NZ player is sent off after committing what is viewed as a serious transgression by the referee and which might otherwise be seen as an illegal assault. Actually if you have a player red carded it is usually because you are unable to keep up with the opposition and are trying to intimidate them. NZ's red card came when Ireland were comfortably ahead. Rugby is a physical sport, but this does not legitimise some of the actions viewed in this match. If rugby has any hope of continuing as a sport, it will need to wake up because no sane parent will allow their children to play this game if deliberately aiming to injure an opponent is tolerated. And even worse when they are penalised for doing so, it is viewed as simply a misfortunate act of the gods

This episode of "The Breakdown" was a particularly egregious example of how much the NZ TV rugby commentariat are in the pocket of the corporate rugby gravy train. It was obvious that they had got the memo that were not allowed to criticise the coaches, selections or tactics of the All Blacks as part of the cosy (monopoly) Sky/NZRFU relationship. Just drivel about the "intensity" and "passion". However, the print media here in NZ has clearly lost patience with Foster and his tactics and selections and have spent this entire week either outright laying into the coaching set up or "just asking pointed questions". Sky TV offers up amateurish and emotionally insincere nonsense all the time both in it's match commentary and its analysis. It has a complete monopoly and it shows.

Until NZ coaching aims to eliminate foul play rather than "playing on the edge", there will be a problem in modern international play - tackling beyond, leg grabbing, projecting entitlement will work with weak referees; but the inert referees that NZ has thrived on in the past will become rarer. There is inconsistency at the moment, which is in nobody's interest.
Putting the sides in context, in NZ, rugby is the national sport with all that implies. In Ireland it is way below GAA games and soccer in popularity; and it has a restricted social class problem, particularly in Leinster the most populous province; there are only a few hundred professional playersin the country; not all eligible for Ireland.

Pressure is all on NZ in final test. The tour is already a big success for Ireland - at least in terms of public perception. But NZ management may be playing for their jobs and also some of the older players may get jettisoned completely after this series. Maybe NZ will react well to the pressure, but so far I feel they haven't been trying to win so much as waiting for Ireland to lose. When Ireland didn't implode in Test 2 NZ didn't really look to have a plan - or at least no plan b. Also, all luck so far has gone NZ's way - two very lucky tries in Test 1 (1 intercept and 1 crazy bounce) and then Barrett's freakish try in Test 2 - all Irish tries have been well-worked from multiple phases. NZ very lucky not to give away 2 reds and a penalty try in Test 2. But, ok, water under the bridge. Great that there is a decider - and may the best team win.

    @connorrice3873 Год назад +8

Apart from all the discipline stuff, I feel like in the last year the AB's have lacked creativity. There are a limited number of players in the world who can truly break a game open. We lacked that flair that Will Jordan, Kieran Read, McKenzie, Nonu, Carter, Cruden, Dagg and others have brought to the Jersey in the last decade. Its a big creative burden for just Beauden particularly once Ardie comes off.
I think we try a little bit to beat these teams at their style, instead of them having to adapt to our style. One of the things that was synonymous with playing the prime ABs from 08-18 was that it felt like there was 15 backs out there because of how skilled our forwards were. Constantly they would rumble up the middle with offloads and perfectly timed tip passes. I havent seen that from this pack in a while, and Ireland's forwards looked the more skilled, physicality aside.
Then in the back line, if we are going to pick our 'power' players (Leicester, Tupaea, Jordie) instead of our creatives, then we have to win collisions. I didnt feel like we were any more powerful than the Irish. Lack of creativity was felt for sure - only 2 tries (1 lucky, 1 inconsequential). To some degree I think fortune favors the bold and at the minute the ABs feel quite safe.

ABs overall game hasn't changed, the rest of the world has caught up and in some cases surpassed. There's still moments of genius and sheer individual talent but overall you couldn't say ABs are leading the way in terms of how to play effective rugby anymore. For me, that's a management issue which needs to be addressed.

I say all that to place context in what i'm about to say regarding this NZ team.
The problem started in the squad and eventual team selection in 2019 RWC. Ben Smith, and the centre who was playing @Highlanders. Then to compound the woeful showing against eng, NZ decided to give the reins to Foster; when Robertson was there jamming in the wing.
Foster NEVER should have been given NZ job. He's a good number 2 (like Carlos Quieroz) - but he ain't a number 1. NZ - imo, will not go past the last 8 in the next RWC
    *IF*
Foster is still in the job.
    Simple.
As regards to next week...it only really matters to Ireland. NZ are there for the beating. As others have already mentioned, cut out the mistakes and Ireland will be set.
Go back and watch Fosters 1st Rugby Championship.
Look at the games they lost.
    they were resoundingly beaten.
    Again in Autumn 2021.
the France game told it all.
france always had another gear - mistakes cost them. Whenever NZ looked like they were about to do something, France would just raise their game and put an end to NZ attack.
These are dark times for us fans...
especially as *NO ONE* is speaking about Foster when they have a winner in Robertson...just chilling.
I don't expect NZ to win next week.
Moreover, if they persist with Foster upto 23RWC, then *whoever* takes over, will have to restore the...Amaghị m ihe a na-akpọ ihe ahụ?
    their *mystique*...
    their *fear factor*....
    something will have been broken.
Too many teams would have either beaten NZ or put them to the sword and just losing - *prior* to the RWC.
dark times for All Blacks fans....

Just watching this after yesterday's match. Maybe a bit of humility could have been used by pundits. 14 men...15 men. Ireland won yesterday deservedly so.

You have to love the smile and comments from Issac Boss: 5 mistakes from Ireland in the first game gave the ABs the victory and 15 on 15 in the 2nd test we were winning! Well done Bossy and we’ll done Jeff for standing up for the ABs

Jeff Wilson is trying to argue the impossible, he's doing his job, the facts are the facts though, the All Black's cracks are out on show, the coach as we have all known since his appointment, the worst we have ever had and this weekend the embarrassment will be complete when the Irish do the demolition job on them.

We have to respect the victory.Passing and kicking cannot win games , discipline, attitude and focus are equally important to win.Mistakes are part of a game and some time you are off the field. We don’t play with 15 is lame excuse by Wilson.Very sad we lost.

"The context changed" which was caused by lack of discipline which is still cause for concern! Makes no difference. ABs were gushing penalties that entire first half.

I'm so looking forward to the last test, the Irish have upped the anti on the all blacks and I want to see if Foster's coaching will measure up. I've said on numerous occasions that we missed the boat letting the Aussies have Dave Rennie, can Foster (my coaching has won NOTHING) prove me wrong...The Irish will reveal all on Saturday.

And id like to take this opportunity to thank them for showing us just how far we got to improve to be competitive for the next world cup
