- Sinds de pianist Hannes Minnaar in 2010 de derde prijs in de wacht sleepte tijdens het Koningin Elisabeth Concours in Brussel, is zijn ster -- nationaal én internationaal -- rijzende. In 2010 verscheen zijn eerste cd. In 2013 - het jaar dat hij zijn debuut maakte bij het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest - zijn tweede: Bach Inspirations.
Minnaars keuze uit Bach-bewerkingen voor piano is zeer gevarieerd. Naast een een aantal zeer bekende stukken, zoals de koraalbewerkingen van Busoni en Francks Prélude, choral et fugue, kiest Minnaar ook voor minder bekende en eigenzinnige versies zoals die van Bauer en Vaughan Williams. Deze componisten -- en dat geldt ook voor Rachmaninoff -- springen vrijer om met de oorspronkelijke werken en drukken duidelijk hun eigen -- romantische -- stempel op Bach.
Minnaar speelt inmiddels met de grote orkesten en werkt met dirigenten als Marin Alsop, Jan Willem de Vriend, Edo de Waart en, in zijn debuut met het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, Herbert Blomstedt. Ook als kamermusicus is Minnaar actief. Met zijn Van Baerle Trio is hij bezig aan een internationale opmars.
Minnaars debuut-cd uit 2011, met Rachmaninoffs weinig gespeelde eerste pianosonate en Ravels Miroirs (Etcetera - KTC 1432), werd in 2012 bekroond met een Edison. The Observer: 'The sensational young pianist (...) displays his extravagant gifts in this debut disc. (...) His musical intelligence, sense of line and structure, delicacy, subtlety of texture and discipline set him apart. (...) Watch out for him.'

Couldn't agree more - and the transfixing fact is that there are quite a few hundred Bach compositions that can take us to heaven as well.
Heard this first on a casette of organ music, was caught by it. This was first time I've heard it played on piano and it is beautiful. btw this spans over forty years!

Perfect interpretation of Bach's Chorale prelude as reinvented by Busoni. This recording and the Horowitz recording are a perfect teaching tool for any pianist looking to invent his/her own interpretation.

Another good version of this chorale prelude is that one played by Vital Julian Frey on harpsichord and Albrecht Meyer on oboe.

Nu ik het weer beluister, de uitkomende stem is zo mooi verklankt als op een piano maar mogelijk is. Dit is zeker geen overbodige versie van deze onvolprezen bewerking. In het algemeen mag ook gezegd worden dat Busoni een geweldig bewerker van de werken van Bach is en een geweldig componist voor de piano is geweest. G. Madge heeft alle pianowerken van hem opgenomen

His touch makes the Busoni piano version of this organ-chorale sound even better than the original version, no, at least the same, but that is marvellous, for a piano, to be able to convey this to the listener.
(As an aside I remember a note in Jim Samson's book on Chopin, seen by his pupils and friends, Chopin could play organ which means he was able to do the legato playing without pedal (right pedal on piano lets the tones flow as if you played legato.) But playing this Busoni - Bach on piano is just as demanding especially if you as Hannes does, have three "registers", the pianissimo of the basso, the middle voices and then emphasize the "cantus firmus", the song, the melody of the psalm without blurring the whole setting with too much (right) pedal.
