Thank you everyone who looks out for Dean and Nala, and offers them a base. I’m sure that your kindness will be repaid many times over by meeting these wonderful couple! Safe travels to you all!
Something I enjoy about your adventures is that we get to see and learn about other cultures in an unscripted, natural way. We acompany you and Nala. It is very natural and spontaneous with a dose of quirkiness and humor. I mean, you get up with bed head every morning, Nala sticks her bum in the camera, you shared your Danish donut and jump in freezing water so we don't have to 😊
Am loving the espaliered trees! Perfect solution to still have trees in narrow streets! More old towns should do this! Trees sequester carbon and produce oxygen AND beauty!
@@jdlazar Fully agree! I work in a Dutch company and I'm constantly impressed with my coworkers. I jump at any opportunity to visit their lovely country.
Hate firework. I stay at home ( Deventer Netherlands) all day and at twelve o'clock I put a chair in front of the window (we have a big window) and put the dog on my lap and then we watch together (the 2 cats are in the laundry room, they feel safest there) while my friend and my stepson go outside and watch. Have a great 2023!
Have to agree, though I always used to love them, for the sake of the animals, I’d have fireworks banned, and be happy never to hear them again. Visually, laser shows are much more impressive than fireworks
I love that Dean shows us how everyone lives. In one country stone houses, in another brick, in still yet another a mixture of materials. Supermarkets are about the same everywhere, it seems, plus streets, hotels, parks...we all live the same way (more or less) around the world. We all seem to want the same things for ourselves and our children around the world. I tell you, he and Nala are ambassadors to the world, from the world. :)
We have dogs & they can't hardly stand fireworks, poor dogs , we stay home , keep them company, but we don't like the boom booms either ,u two r a joy to visit , 🐾💖🐈
Where I grew up, we did not have fireworks on New Years. I live on the east coast now, and the small coastal city spends more money on fireworks than anywhere I have ever lived before.
The town is Beesd, pronounced like the english "bay" but with 'st' at the end. Oliebollen are delicious when fresh. If you leave them out for a day they are perfect for hammering in nails. There are several variations and the most tasty one contains bits of apple covered in cinnamon. Best wishes to you lot!
Can you tell us what kind of trees those are, the ones that everyone has limbed up so that they are all parallel to the road? I've never seen anything like that.
Awww that is a good idea to have some protection for Nala. Mind you Nala has travelled so much that's she could maybe cope with the bangs. Fireworks are a real nuisance for animals. Oh that is loud. I am glad Nala is tucked up in bed. Happy New Year. Bliadhna mhath Ùr
It's so beautiful how Nala loves you, giving you kisses. Cats I have had were so finicky they rarely gave me physical signs of affection like that. What a special cat!! ❤️❤️❤️
It depends on the cat, some are more affectionate, and others are not. (I think females are more, I've had both and the females seem to bond with me more)
The Netherlands is such a great country, with super welcoming inhabitants. They always seem to be so much more organised than many countries that I’ve been lucky enough to visit.
When I lived in North Haarlem in 2001-2003 the bangers popping started about a week before New Years and did not stop. It was so annoying. I never saw an Ice cream van and thought what a good business to start up there. Another thing is you don’t see net curtains and most houses you can see straight into them. Some have a head height bit of frosted glass or blinds. Nearly every house has a flag holder above the front door so they can display their national flag on certain days.
Dean and Nala, thanks for the video. The New Year's Eve into New Year's fireworks were very loud and exciting. We have celebrations in the US with fireworks shows too. Take care, be well and see you in the next one.😀😻❤️
Dear Dean & Nala, Happy to see you in the Netherlands healthy & enjoying life! Glad you’re catching up on the travel videos even though it’s February, alsways good to see Dean and Nala’s travels. Love the brick homes. Hate fireworks and so do my cats. The Netherlands look lovely -- I really enjoyed seeing a bit of the town you stayed in -- cobblestone roads and tudy brick homes! Really amazed that they have fireworks going off thru out the town! Maybe all the brick and stone keeps fire concerns low? 😺❤️
New Year's fireworks. Not legal in the USA, but that doesn't seem to stop anyone. That video reminded me of the time I was on Shore Patrol in Catania, Sicily on New Year's Eve. Hard enough keeping Sailors out of trouble, but the people darn near blew the whole town up with their fireworks. It was nutty. Cheers!
Actually it's a state by state law. Many states allow fireworks all year long, with individual cities deciding which days and hours of the day/night to allow their use.

Another amazing video You did so much in so little time. That was a beautiful town you stayed in for New Years Eve. Those fireworks were incredible! The little town in the Netherlands looked beautiful. You took such good care of Nala during the fireworks. It is always a bad time for animals when the fireworks go off. Here, in San Diego, The Humane Society always advises pet owners to keep their pets secure and inside during fireworks. Inevitably, many pets are not secured, panic during fireworks and are lost. Oliebollen are fab!! Will say this, Dean. If you can get your hands on oliebollen when you have an oven, try making bread and butter pudding with them - it's *stupendous*. Ask them not to put the icing sugar ontop though if you want them for this. (I'm married to a Dutchman!). Also try appleflappen, from the same kind of place as you can get an oliebollen! People in certain housing projects, where I now live since a year ago, start setting them off about a week before the independence holiday, and for about a week after. At my last residence, which was a better neighborhood, people were setting them off just one every hour, so that they could not get caught. Sometimes they even set them off in the driveway, since I lived in an old building on an estate. And they would do it at 1 AM.
That is a great video. You have a real talent for finding great events to film. Thanks for showing us a Netherlands New Year!
From Wisconsin USA
I'll bet you could go around the world and stay with your followers most nights.
My thoughts exactly! But I'm sure Dean and Nala would miss their perfect camping spots. But you are so spot on: if Dean said I'll be near "X" city, can we stay with you -- there'd be a "cat" fight among fans to have them stay with fan "Y". I keep my eyes out for the van - I'm in France. Dreaming.
@@lindathalman3506 You're in France? I'm so envious!
nice one again 👍 tip: get one of those furry things for your kicrofone. stops the wind noises 😉
Aww, Nala's so curious.
The Netherlands 🇳🇱 is beautiful how cool to bring in the new year and of course Nala is the sweetheart ❤ 🐈🐈🐈
Nice fireworks! Nala is your own personal breathalyzer. She should check you "before" you go out. She wants to see how much beer you drank, while you were out. Lol 🕊
Y en mi país con 30 C🇨🇱

Hello Dean And Nala salutti From España!!!!!
Wow what a nice place!
I've made Ollie bollen at home! My mom made them for us growing up!
Love to see you both enjoying your travels- and sharing them with us. Happy New Year, Nala and Dean!
Definitivamente, son unos valientes, metiendose en esas aguas heladas

You guys are amazing!! Nala missed you.
Nice of people to invite you. Be safe have fun...love you both. ♥️♥️💞
Que ternura más grande es Nala.
I’m glad you got a place indoors for her. My cats don’t like fireworks. They leave me and go into the basement.
All the trees in this town have such interesting shapes!
Wow that's crazy, looks a bit dangerous but I bet it was fun to be there.
I love you videos Dean and Nala❤ Thank you so much. ❤
She loves you soooo much.
I don't like fireworks either, partly because I've had cats and dogs myself.
I like it Dean that you discover the Dutch traditions with Nala.
Carbite shooting is quite a spectacle in some parts of the country.
You've done the traditional New Year's dive right away.
She is so vocal lovely
