Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial! I quit playing my guitar 40 years ago because it was so frustratingly difficult. Music sheets did me no good because they never produce notes remotely like the songs. Fast forward today, and I find people like you who share their gift of teaching and I am playing some of my favorite songs I never dreamt possible. The thrill is pure and magical and best of all everlasting.
please know you made my day! I'm so glad that your playing again...i hope you enjoy it more than ever and yell at me anytime if i can help in any way! your KY friend, dale.
Thank you for this perfect rendition of Dan's great song. I have everything he has recorded and there is not one bad song in his catalog. Please put more Fogelberg tutorials out. Thank you!
hello Ted...amazing talent and missed. I grew up trying to steal all the acoustic and electric stuff i could from him - thanks for checking this out and all the best with your music! dale
DF was so underrated. He had such a pure voice and his songs were poems with music. I’ve been a fan since Captured Angel came out when I was in high school. My band has decided to add this song to our repertoire. Great video. It saved me a lot of time. Thanks! 🙏
HI Dale! Taught myself the guitar shortly after this song came out! Dan Fogelberg along with the Beatles were the biggest influences on me and why Im a musician! I saw Dan open up for The Eagles at the old Music Hall in Boston in early 1975. I was hooked. Tx for playing and teaching the song the right way. Your talent and teaching skills has helped many enjoy playing the guitar and have solved many problems for many players who got stuck in the mud! All the best to you my friend!
Bob W hello Bob...greatly appreciate the kind post sir and thanks for sharing about the DF/Eagles show - that had to be great! thanks for checking out this video snd sharing our common love of great tunes - your friend, dale.
Thank you, Dale, for this and all of your other tutorials. I have been playing for over 40 years, and have learned more about the instrument, and the songs I've always wanted to play, since I discovered your channel. You are beyond generous, and I know you have made a lot of "wanna-be" musicians very happy. Thank you for everything, and have a very Merry Christmas!
Az6string well you kind words made my day because it is so great to hear you are enjoying your guitar and music - just wish we could play some together! I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year ahead!dale
Great video! My favorite artist, and one of my all-time favorite songs! Double drop D, so easy now that I see it and so much fun to play! Thank you!!!!!!
Dale, am making my annual visit to your site to find the key to playing another classic rock tune. So glad you posted this, and for breaking it down in a way that is quick and easy to grasp. It only took me eight years to get to this! Thanks again, and here's to a great year ahead.
Was having a Fogelberg moment on a cloudy, cold day in Michigan which led me to your most excellent tutorial. Very well done, and a fun tune to work on! Many thanks, I'll check out your others too!!
Tony Driza he was something special and a huge influence for me - i really appreciate you checking this out and thanks for the kind post - all the best with your music!
Very well done! This is my first vid of your but will def. be checking out more. I've played for over 40 years and am always looking for songs I've loved but never learned. Thanks!!
Hi Dale. Just want to thank you for this tutorial (and all the others as well). Back when this was a "new" song I was a beginning guitarist and although I could fake it with open chords I just knew it wasn't "right". At the time I didn't have a clue about alternative tunings. Heard this song recently and my ear now knew what was going on so I searched for some tabs to short-circuit the learning process and much to my delight found your spot on rendition. Thanks for sharing your (vast) knowledge with the rest of us. -Scott
hst1001 hello Scott - thanks for your kind post and sharing your time to check out the vid! This is such a great tune and we share a strong connection to it don't we - i remember the same thing trying to figure it out without much experience as a player and kind of faking through parts my ear knew weren't exactly on the mark. I wish you all the best with your music - who knows maybe sometime we'll play this one together! your friend, dale
Dale, still love listening to your posts as we have similar taste in our music. Also love the LLB posts but dont see much of them nowadays. Best cover band Ive ever heard. Take care stay safe and healthy my friend. I recently endured a brain surgery at age 70. We never know how long we’ll be around so I’ll just say I appreciate your posts. I’d love if you could teach Joe Walsh’s “County Fair” come on Dale for an old man?😇🫵🇺🇦🇺🇸
hello sir! Thanks for the very kind and encouraging post. I'm sorry to hear you had to go though the surgery and wishing all the best ahead friend. I will give the JW tune a listen!
Priceless, timeless. I think I have mentioned before that your instruction is equal to your taste in these guitar classics. Who else provides instruction for Another Park Another Sunday, for example. Only Dale! Thank you. Did Fogelberg play a 12 string on a lot of his songs?
Great video and very helpful!! I will pass on a friendly suggestion that was given to me by a friend: raise your camera and have it pointed a bit down on your fret hand as it helps see the strings and frets a little better.
Joe Ramirez it's in D, so the opening chords are D-A-G-A, which is the verse as well! Then for "the meaning gets lost, etc" it's Bm-E-G-D-A this first line, Bm-E-G-E-G-A to lead back to the "Love if you can" chorus, which mimics the opening. There's a lot more going on, as he indicates in the lesson, but those are the basic strumming chords.
Is it me, or does it sound like the intro to George Harrison’s what is life? If George was alive he might’ve ended up suing Dan Fogelberg for that intro

What tossed me was the drop D tuning.
Thanks for breaking this down. I knew the chords but didn't realize it was an alternate tuning. Great post

Excellent!! I've been playing a version out of a book I saw 40 years ago thank you!

14 years later you're teaching an old fart how to play this. Hope to play it live in two months. Loved Fogelberg since the 70's.
Thanks.
Thanks so much for checking this out..greatly appreciated!
Thanks, T-Doc! Btw - have you tried the Tonewood Amp yet? Great product! You’ll love it 😎
greatly appreciate you sharing your time to give this a listen..i have not, i use an AER these days.
Give the Tonewood Amp a try. Satisfaction guaranteed! :)
I love the sound of the double drop d tuning. However, what chords actually being played. Thanks for the tutorial.
hello Joe...sincere thanks for checking this out!

Can you provide the shapes for the first two chords?
DGB string 7th fret - I use a finger for each string no bar - then down to how I spell them out of the vid - enjoy playing this one!
Ditto what joetahoe777 said. Well done, thank you sir!
Thanks so much for checking this out..greatly appreciated!
well done !
great thanks for checking this one out!
Can you please do a video on Scarecrows Dreams. Thank you!
Thanks so much for checking this out..greatly appreciated!
Excellent job, but I have one question: Shouldn't your fingering for Bm7 include 2nd fret G string, not 2nd fret D string?
Thanks so much for checking this out..greatly appreciated!
Any chance you could do a lesson on "county Fair" Joe Walsh?"
I'll give it a listen!
Do you have the tab for this?
i do not...sorry - the chords are those commonly used in the key of D. The voicing are perhaps different because of the altered tuning.
Coming up on 10years he's been gone.
doesn't seem possible...huge influence for me.
He was the poster man for a positive outlook, unusual for the 70's.
Jimmy Fischbeck only sad part over 53 yrs old a simple prostate exam may have saved him
Is it me, or does it sound like the intro to George Harrison’s what is life? If George was alive he might’ve ended up suing Dan Fogelberg for that intro
