You can get a factory regrind roller cam from a company in Texas off of eBay for about $180 shipped. They sell a few different grinds, maybe 10 different ones and they may be able to custom grind one for you? The LSA would have to be close to factory though but that's a good thing with a SC. And you can get factory style hydraulic roller lifters for about $60 shipped. I think the spider and dog bone kits are around $50 and a factory roller thrust plate for about $10 shipped. There are 2 different sbc camshaft thrust plates, the later Vortec one and the roller blocks before the Vortec style. The pre-Vortec thrust has a wider bolt pattern, it looks like the one you have. So when you look for them get the wider one. So right around $300 you can have a roller cam and all the accessories. With a 383, make sure to get a small base circle cam or there WILL be rod to cam interference. Ask me how I know. If your rods are 5.7" and you're planning on running a cam with less than .500" lift(calculated with 1.5:1 rockers) and on the mild side with duration, like under 235* at .050 then you might be able to use a standard base circle cam. One of those factory regrind cams will have a reduced base circle from being reground. But before it is reground it will probably fit without interference because they were so small from the factory already. Anyone of them should go right in without any worries. Cool project, I am now subscribed. 👍
Thanks for the advice it seems like you've done this a couple times! I still haven't pulled the trigger on a cam but I'll be sure to get one with the right clearance 👍 I'm hoping to make some progress on it soon! Thanks for watching
@@ZanesGarage What RPM range are you looking to run your 383? You got all the good parts to spin that thing, maybe a solid roller cam might be a better way to go? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a factory roller style cam that is a solid roller, I don't think they make one? Good news is that they make longer solid roller tie bar lifters that work in a factory roller block. And a non roller block roller cam will work in a roller block but not the other way around. Built one that way for a friend and that thing rips! Dart 220 sbc heads with a Howard's solid roller cam....... What are your plans for the 383? Street or street/strip or strip only?
@@jjmccloud Because Summit sent the wrong cam and there was interference from the connecting rods and the cam lobes. The engine doesn't spin very good when that happens so I had to send the cam back and have the reduced base circle cam sent, and that's how I know.
@@itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 Wasnt being a smart-ass or anything lol i was almost expecting a story about how you went to break it in before you noticed any interference 🤣 I wouldn't wish that on nobody lol most cams will interfere in that situation but there's a few lucky combos that squeeze by depending on cam and brand/type of rod and length like you said. Scat rods usually clear the lobes a little easier then most eagle rods but even if you did manage to clear using a regular cam itd still be close. Its definitely a good piece of mind to have all the clearance u can get there, I've seen a few pretty damn close that I'd never be able to sleep at night if I owned 🤣 if you do it right though you get enough to have a peace of mind
Would a Gen III ATK LS crate engine from Jegs be reliable enough for use in a daily driver project? I haven't heard any positive or negative thoughts on these engines. I just want a reliable engine. Or would I have just as good of luck simply going to a junkyard and having a mechanic look at the junkyard engine? (I realize that a person never really knows what they're getting with junkyard engines. However, they can normally be had for half the cost or better than a basic crate engine. Eventually, I might be adding or changing the springs, camshaft, intake, exhaust. Thanks in advance for any advice, opinions, or answers.
I've heard a lot of negative things about"ATK" I pulled the trigger on an 03 Jeep Wrangler sport with an ATK engine 13,000 on that newer"ATK" so far, guess I'm going to find out how reliable these engines are or not, it's been good @ 13,000 come on ATK & give me another 300,000+.
So I just sold a car today that my wife and I don't use and I have the money to buy a fully dressed ATK HP94M, any opinions?? I plan on dropping it into a 98 S10
.040 over bore on the pistons. And that's a great question I'll be putting the long block together soon and I'll definitely make a video if any issues like that come up.
Look at your piston numbers I just ordered the same short block and was expecting 11.0:1with my heads and they sent me the wrong short block they sent me the sp35 instead and your pistons look the same as mine
i just bought a engine with dome pistons in it and i hate it . nothing but trouble from the day i paid $500 for it . i stick with flat top pistons . and stock cam . and stock lifter and rockers less trouble .
Blueprint has not built over 5 million engines ;-) They also shut down their Reman side Marshall Engines that had terrible reviews. They are nowhere near the level of ATK.@@cromaticdragon5079
No issues with my 350 crate from ATK….bought it 2016..
WOW!!! THAT IS THE PERFECT SHORT BLOCK FOR ANY ENGINE BUILD!!!! SOMETHING TO CONSIDER. GREAT PRODUCTS AND A GREAT VIDEO. THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
That light waving was beautiful!

Where you at with it now? It's been 3 months lol
Dang I'm debating myself on rather to go with an ATK hp21 or 81 408 stroker and so doing as much research as I can.

Huh? Lol
ATK has got terrible reviews. Good luck.
I thought it was Blueprint that had bad reviews
Lots of yappin..bla bla bla.👎👎👎
can you tell if that block is a tbi?
YOu find negative reviews about Jegs, Jasper, Blueprint, ATK damn near all of them. Then you;ll find reviews praising all of them..🤨
Not nearly as many bad reviews about Blue Print as there are about ATK
