Anne is by far my favourite of the Brontë's! She was pushing so many boundaries with the themes she explored! Loved it!
You're so right - themes way ahead of their time. An amazing book.
Out of the three sisters, Anne's way of writing was so much easier to read and behold. I loved The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I will be reading Agnes Grey next.
It is mind-blowing that the sisters should have written such amazing books, especially when you consider how sheltered they must have been as women living at a vicarage.
TOWH is probably my second favourite Bronte, after JE of course. Isn't is brilliant! It certainly inspired me. And kind of makes me think that Anne was my favourite Bronte. :x Thanks for the reminder of how mind-blowing it is that these brilliant novels all came out of one household. What a dynasty. Love the new edition too.
It's insane really, isn't it?! So pleased you liked it too.
Agreed, a very good book. I recently read Villette, another worthwhile read.
These Classics - The Austens, The Hardys, The Gaskells, The Brontes, are my first love. Beautiful edition!
I've had this on the shelf for 40 years but your enthusiasm has persuaded me to lift it down and read it!
so intriguing, so pretty ... (and the book looks good, too!) :)))
Reading Wuthering Heights has been a beautiful part of my college years. Jane Eyre is my current read and i still can't get over what happened to Helen Burns since reading last night. By the looks of it, i am in for a great story experience with this one, too!
Those new editions are beautiful! I've heard a lot of great things about The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, even though it is certainly underrated, especially in comparison to Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights (although I think Wuthering Heights is one of those books that people either love or hate, that's at least what I've gotten from watching booktube videos).
I would love to win a copy!
Jane Eyre is one of my favourite books, but I have never read Wuthering Heights or The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, so I would love to win a copy.
Oh my gosh this is one of my favourite books of all time! :-) This edition is so gorgeous x
Try “Evelina” by Fanny Burney, this book is fantastic, and I read Ms. Burney was an author beloved by Jane Austen.
I really want to read all that was written by the Bronte sisters! What I've read so far have been masterpieces! xx
Consider not only 3 sisters but that only Charlotte made it barely to middle age. If they had modern medicine and public health think of how many more masterworks would likely come from that set of siblings. Perhaps even brother Bramwell, if he could have laid off the booze, might have made a quartet of splendid writers.
I shall grab this off my shelves in the autumn I think. You're right. Sometimes we leave it too long between classics.
They are timeless pieces of literature and I agree three feisty women who all were fantastic writers.I would love a copy of this beautiful edition :) Happy weekend :)
I have always wanted to read this one - have read both Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, and always wondered how I would get on with Anne's work. My dog is actually called Bronte!
Loved your review, I'm even more intrigued than before!
I love this edition of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. And this is one that I never read... yet
That edition of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall has been in my wishlist ever since it was released! It's just stunning. I'd love to win it :)
I love your book reviews. And these editions are gorgeous! I plan on reading the Bronte's works this summer along with the new novel out about Charlotte Bronte.
I do read quite a few classics but I haven't gotten to that one yet. What a beautiful edition. I might just have to put the set on my Christmas list.
that is such a gorgeous edition!
Yes, I am definitely going to read it! I have just read again Jane Eyre, which I love. Wuthering Heights less... thanks for the recommendation.
Shirley is great too
These editions of the Bronte novels have been on my 'to buy' list for a while. I'd love to win a copy! :)
Ohh I am interested. I loved your review and have never read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, but I will. :)
I have absolutely no desire to try Wuthering Heights again. Two attempts; one with me yelling at Catherine as I drove down the highway listening to it on Audible, and I'm done. Jane Eyre is one that I hope to return to later. (I got stuck right before the main male character appears, whatever his name is.)
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is another story. I was intrigued by this book last year when I purchased it. With your description, now I absolutely HAVE to read it this summer! Thanks so much for posting this video and giving me (and others) more information about the book.
What better way than a beautiful edition for me to finally read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall! Would love to win.
What a beauty! I too haven't read anything Bronte-related beyond Jane Eyre & Wuthering Heights, despite having picked up a copy of Shirley in a secondhand shop for about 50 cents several years ago. Anne is very high on my to-read list :)
What a beautiful edition! I would LOVE to win a copy! :)
I've never read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. It sounds intriguing! I love this edition, but I haven't been able to find it in Greek bookshops yet, so I would love to win a copy. :)
I absolutely love Anne! I'd love a copy, especially to match my copy of Wuthering Heights - not only am I considering using it for my Gothic dissertation, I have always wanted to read it alongside Agnes Grey :)
Just started reading it today in Swedish tho, but I have ordered that edition you have. Did that days ago and looked on so many different editions but found that one the nicest one. Have just reread Jane Eyre - which I LOVE! and will read Wuthering Heights soon to x
The Brontes are a fascinating family - they wrote speculative fiction as children, before the genre existed! (Gondal Chronicles). Haven't read this, but would love to.
Can we do this again in 2022! Classics reading challenge !
Gotta read it! x
I have just reread Tenant and I was also struck by how modern Helen Graham (Huntingdon) really is. But also it says a lot about how first impressions can be so wrong. A neighbourhood can only really know half the story of someone's life. Didn't really get to appreciate Gilbert Markham though until you compare him with Arthur Huntingdon and the other dissolutes especially Mr Hattersley.
I live the Bronte sisters but I've only read books from Charlotte and Emily and so I think it would be truly fascinating to read a book from another Bronte sister to see how they compare. Plus that edition is beautiful.

As always a great review. would love to be in the draw for a copy. Just think, the international postage might be just what the British economy needs right now.
Ha ha ha!
I read this recently and thought it was fantastic. Better than Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights. I want someone to bring out a nice edition like this of Agnes Grey as there only seem to be boring ones.
Such a beautiful edition! I would love to win a copy! This is the only Anne Bronte book I have left to read as I read Agnes Grey at the end of last year and love it. I definitely feel that out of the 3 sisters Anne Bronte is under rated. I'm currently reading a new biography on Anne Bronte and its brilliant so far.
Definitely underrated! I believe Agnes Grey was written before Jane Eyre but because it was published afterwards it suffered the comparison of being another governess novel. Did you enjoy it?
I have to admitted that I have never read Jane Eyre however I read Agnes Grey and throughly enjoyed it and definitely would recommend it to anyone interested in reading Anne Bronte :)
i have wanted to resd this book for a long time. I have finally made myself read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights but neither have drawn me like this one and yet sadly I still haven't read it. I would love to win a copy!
Ohhhhh! I'm SO interested in reading that! I'm one of the many Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights lovers out there and it would be a dream to read something by the last of the three sisters! Please consider me for the giveaway and thank you for this very interesting review! 😃
Do count me in, I would really like to read it.
I am rubbish I've hardly read any classics but this looks amazing xx
I've never read wuthering heights either, hides away! xx
I haven't read much since school so don't worry about hiding away!
im doing a dissertation on the position of women in the 19th century using this marvelous book as a case study. I have read the book several times and I just can't help myself but to think : how cud a women in the 1847 to write sthg so defying ... so direct to pass a social indictment that even men writers failed to do so
That edition was censored btw
@3:40 "a bit of a cad"??? That's a rather gentle way of saying abusive POS.
I've read works by both Charlotte and Emily Bronte but not Anne, I really should rectify that.
I'd like to win a copy!
