First off, thanks for the upload! The plot line was sinfully delicious. The plot actually comes from the author of the novel. If it was beefed up to modern day, Stephen King would have a ball with this horror film because it has so much potential. I really think that this was a good role for Joan because it actually had parallels to her real life, especially with her relationships with children and men. Eva was aging and that's why she was so jealous of the younger, more pretty women like Carol and Jennifer. As an old gay man film critic, I can relate! All the make up in the world can't replace lost youth. This film had me at Hello and I think we all just want to be loved, scars and all, agree or disagree? My rating 10/10. Now I'm hungry for the original 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?' LoveLove, can you upload that film?

Whatever happened to Baby Jane? (1962), a favorite and for years was shown on television, is a classic. If you are a fan of old films not to mention Crawford and Davis, it is one you truly must see. The downside, it has not been released anywhere online for public consumption.

Her hair really distracted me at first. Her acting was pretty amazing. There were times when she seemed so sincere, open-hearted and girlish that I found myself sympathizing with her, then a split second later , devil woman Joan was back. wow. Love the gown/scene close to the end (1:22:08) where she pauses at the top of the stair in that incredible Black Widow dress, completely empowered in all her regal Joan-ness. She rearranges the train of the dress about her perfectly, sets that beautiful chin and descends to her fate. Marvelous!

Idk. To me Joan's character was like someone that is a covert narcissist. Biblically speaking this is known as the Jezebel spirit. It is like they have you like a puppet on a string. They tend to make you miserable and it seems as though you can't really get away from them. Especially if they are a spouse or a parent. When they are a parent they feel as though they can control you and own you even when you are an adult. This movie did a great job displaying someone with NPD and how horrible it is to be in close relationship with them. They WILL take a toll on your life. That is why you generally have to end up not interacting with them at all. No matter who they are.

Mildred Pierce, Autumn Leaves. However, I guess when Cristina Crawford put Mommie Dearest out, sad what the true life was. Yet, Joan Crawford rose high to her craft. She started out as a dancer in silent films.

@@ladennayoung2939 Thank you! You described exactly what life with a pathologically narcissistic family member is like.. to outsiders, it almost seems like science fiction, but for those who have to live through it on the inside, it's a hell all too real. This film nails that 'hellish' existence almost too realistically. Unsuspecting folks normally laugh or poke fun at realities they simply have not lived through and thus cannot fathom. However, as hard to believe as it may seem, this scenario is sadly all too real in some families!

Well, you would have to have means to go. Women alone and unmarried were not welcome anywhere at that time.

t forgot just how very dramatic some old movies are. And as I see Joan Crawford sashaying around in her designer clothes, I can't imagine that in "real life" her having a nurturing bone in her body. Still, I''m glad I found this online.

Faye Dunway based her role on Mommie dearest on this movie, you can see in particular in her waking up scene on the bed and her going downstairs

Lucy Marlow, playing Jennifer, made her last film in 1956. I wonder why she gave up her career. She lived till 86. As for this film, it is seriously flawed in some way, but I don't know where or on whom to place the failure. Maybe some of the reviews from when it was released will explain. It could be subtitled "A Star Models Jean Louis Creations".

The plot line is ridiculous another thing I I thought of was that the leading men in this movie are not good-looking. To think that young girl would go after Joan Crawford's husband is absurd. The thing that was the best of the whole movie was Joan Crawford's wardrobe. You can tell she wanted to be the star of that movie. Bad hairdo though. Just my

Narcissists were never young & innocent. They had narcissistic traits from birth. Many of those children who scream at the top of their lungs at bedtime and keep their parents up until they get their way are narcissists in the making.
