I tend to agree but you can't really blame them for their political positions. They're trying to be as diplomatic as possible just as China is. Both India and China are actually on Russia's side since all are a part of BRICS and in contention with the West which is Ukraine's benefactor. That said, India and China also need the West. They cannot afford to alienate themselves to the point of possibly incurring economic sanctions, so they play this 'neutrality' role as much as they can get away with it - for now.

The combined economic power of BRICS+ Nations now well exceeds that of the G7 - it is the West that needs China and India, especially in view of their relationships with each other, Russia, and the Global 'South' (as Yellen has made clear). The World is watching and to see Modi visit and hug Zelenski, a puppet of the Global hegemon, demonstrates indecision and weakness (as does much of what Jaishankar has to say). Xi demonstrates a much more measured approach to Zelenski. And Western (US) sanctions have rapidly reducing effect (also acknowledged by Yellen).

If everyone joins these wars, the world will come to an end in no time. We have to give the message that we are not in favor of war, and that’s the purpose that’s being achieved here. This is not a stupid move and definitely does not show weakness. You need strength to walk on the razor’s edge. Even though Ukraine has not sided ever with India, but we gave message to the world that we love peace and would go anywhere, even to our adversaries to achieve that.
