The sirens are apart of the Flood Warning system as the Calder Valley is prone to Flooding

The scenes around Todmorden are amazing, It one of the best parts of riding the Calder Valley Line. Sure you had time to walk that part of the Canal. Great Video.

Thanks for showing our house from Walsden Station, on the hill above the platform. The best railway view of Todmorden is coming down from Copy Pit, just after Lydgate, when the whole valley opens up. That view finally made me decide to move here. Love the videos Jen.

I used to live in Littleborough (and Smithybridge before that). There were only ever two platforms at Littleborough. Concerning the Lancs-Yorks border, I knew an old chap who told me that many years before, prior to local government reorganisation, the border ran through the middle of Tod town hall. He asserted that when he went dancing there, he oft-times had one leg in Yorkshire and one in Lancashire.

the canalside platform was once an island platform with a third track and there was a signal box both of which gives the impression of another platform once existing in the space

      @JenOnTheMove  Год назад +2

I've found some old maps that show a third platform where I pointed out the old platform edge, so it's definitely existed at some point, even if it was removed before our lifetimes!

Lovely video again. Rode the Calder Valley for the first time the other week on the way to Leeds so really nice to see a bit more of the stations

You can watch news reports of the Summit Tunnel fire on here from Granada Reports and Calendar. And it is true that the Calder is the historic boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire!

its amazing to see Todmorden again as i visited the town back in September and after i got home from my trip i found out that my parents both met in Todmorden which was shocking but anyway Todmorden is a lovely town and the station is lovely and i agree with you about the class 195 they are lovely trains and the seats are very confortable which i found when i rode the full journey from Manchester to Leeds and the Northern 195/331s are my fav new trains so far but anyway keep up the awesome work & im looking forward to the rest of the line

Not sure if this is connected but years ago when in the fire service we used to receive warnings that they were testing the nuclear war siren . When asked what do we do ? dont know came the reply but you have 4 minutes to do it ! the sirens were dotted around the place.

The way things are going they may have to be used again...there is going to be a warning test broadcasted to all smart phones in the UK on Sunday 23rd April this year, ironically that is also St George's Day.. so listen out for it...

Walsden is what I like toi call the sad little station as it has hourly trains compared with half hourly frequencies on or every 5 to ten minute frequencies at stations on the rest of the Calder Valley Line, I think Walsden is actually the least used on the line.

It’s a nice ride, but I call it the asbestos line, Turner & Newell in Rochdale and Cape in the infamous Acre Mill in Hebden Bridge. See ‘The Dust at Acre Mill’ television programme, it’s on RUclips in three parts.

Brilliant video Jen, never been to Todmorden, it does look like a nice place. Also those announcements at the stations always seem to interrupt you when you're trying to film lol.

4:33 See, this is what I try to showcase when I go out and do my vlogs, buses might not be for everyone but some buses can be cool, some can be designed well and some, well, they're just meh

I happen to like Wetherspoons. I can't say anything about that particular pub in Todmorden as I've never been there. But in my experience I've found them to be more pleasant than some pubs. It's a democratic space and pioneered many of the features we see in the vast majority of pubs today.
Their owner might be a bit batshit but any problems you find in Spoons aren't necessarily exclusive to them.
Other than that I'm enjoying your videos. 😅😋

Think the might be flood warnings, the calder has been over topping.

  • @bostonrailfan2427

Tried to get from Tod to Huddersfield, Northern (wy metro) let me down, points failure and 2 hour delay. It this were london the central line would be every 3 mins and I would be complaining for a 15 min delay

For Welsh, just think of the u as an i (making the same sound as if you just said the later e). The only letter in the Welsh alphabet that is not always pronounced the same way is y, I believe.
