I appreciate the advice on square holes, I was going to do that anyway, but confirmation is nice to have. Thanks.

Do you have videos showing the update on the tree?

Yes, I do have a few videos about the food forest where I show how the trees have grown (see the “food forest” and “vlog” playlists). I just pruned them recently and I’ll give more of an update this spring/summer.

careful overwatering in a clay soil. I followed the standard advice you are with my two peach trees at my old property and killed one. When I dug it up in the late spring is was totally drenched muddy with water and smelled like it had been rotting for months. The combination of heavy wood chips and heavy clay meant there was no place for the water to drain or evaporate. Pull back around the woodchips and feel if it is wet. If its wet on top then there should be water below. For such a small tree start I couldnt imagine it would need to much water.

Thanks for the advice! We’ve had some rain and it’s even snowed twice since we planted these. The temps are mostly above freezing though so it all melted quickly. I haven’t watered them again after I did for the video. When I do, I’ll keep spreading it in a wider radius to encourage the roots to grow outward. So far, the trees have more color and they’re just starting to show new growth buds. 😁

Do you recall where you purchased your trees from? There are so many options online

I ordered these from Burgess because they were a little bit cheaper than most others.

Hi! I don’t know a lot about pruning and when you should do it. These trees are now 2 years old and I just pruned them in late winter to open up the center. If you’re going to do any pruning on yours, I would also wait until the end of next winter. Fewer pests and diseases at that time.
