- Hi Guys,
I thought id put together a video of my thoughts and reactions to the recently revealed Silent Hill transmission by Konami, Speaking about all things SH2 related as well as the upcoming movie and also the state of play trailer !
These are some of my thoughts, predictions, reservations and jokes regarding the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake coming on October 8th 2024.

@@Nappr thanks that’s awesome 🙌 my other videos are mainly lets plays of horror tiles but I do have more review style videos for some of the Resident evils as well as a big silent hill 2 one that’s about an hour and 45 mins long 👍

Modern audiences say Silent Hill was too difficult, too scary and too appealing to the male gaze.
Damn, I miss the 90's.
😂 yeah the landscape has changed quite a bit, years ago if you couldn’t beat a game it was just persistence or learning to get better at it, nowadays games are almost made to guide you through it with as much ease as possible so that you get to see all the money they spent on it and all the time they didn’t 😂

There's so much to debate. Such as the role of narratives in games today. Or the balance of challenge Vs. accessibility.

And I have mainly just been focusing on these analysis style videos recently the lets plays I don’t really do any more the recent ones are just re uploads as they never got many views, but if you like the analysis style videos I made a deep dive review/analysis on SH2 on my channel about 10 months ago and it’s by far my most successful and best video views and feedback wise, I think you’d quite enjoy it, it’s called my love letter to silent hill 2

The Silent Hill Trilogy were all classics. No matter how fantastic the new fog looks, nothing quite compares to the rough edges of the early PlayStation games. That murky ambience. Do we need to witness every strand of hair or fabric texture? By the way, did they remove the "du-dum" sound effect when picking up items? I always liked that.
@@ninstar8165 yeah I know what you mean there’s a certain astethic to the early ps1 and ps2 horror games that’s hard to capture nowadays ! And oh yeah I didn’t even think about the item pick up sound being gone ! I love that sound too 😝 I used to have it as my text tone
that apartment was real spooky and you are right that feels less spooky. I actully forgot how spooky it was because end was so relaxed. I do like how outside looks so wild and backyard like. It doesnt really matter at all if he has patch at his back or not
Yeah I do love the Woodside apartments in the original they feel very dark and claustrophobic, I just thought the new ones look a bit too light, and yeah the garden areas and distances between will be good for exploration etc, and yeah the patches aren’t a huge deal, I just always really liked his original jacket 😊
Just a heads up NOTHING is physical the art book is digital , no coffee table book for me 🤷🏾♀️
Yeah that seems strange to me with such a popular release you’d think they’d do something physical like the MGS 3 remake is getting, even just a Steelbook or something would be nice
Yeah they're taking the cheapskate route here all around.
I actually agree, fans will want to play it for the game and not how popular it will be at the time the guys who played the originals or didn't get a chance to play it first time round will want to buy it

And yeah my love letter to SH2 had been by far my most successful video most of my content on here gets a handful of views every year but that video is currently on 23K views in 10 months, it’s by far the video I’m most proud of, and I guess I just don’t upload frequently enough I do this around full time work and stuff and rarely get time to write edit and record,also I largely started doing just lets plays at first but started doing reviews of RE4, RE7, the RE4 remake and they get much more likes and views than any of my let’s plays so I’ll most likely just stick to these analysis style videos from now on ! Thanks for sharing my work in your page it means a lot getting traction on these videos as I do put a lot of time into them !
I am so glad you fully understand what they did well but ultimately what is hindering it. Granted the game isn't out yet, though funny that it comes out the day after my birthday. Though if I am honest it feels like there's a gun offscreen when these developers are being interviewed. With what these devs are saying isn't intended but comes off as insulting the original especially considering just how ahead of its time it truly was. I also hate that they are "modernizing" and "competing" when the story is so iconic it inspired millions, for better and worse. From camera choices to some of the most RAW and powerful performances you could not replicate with any other actors. Which is what makes it timeless and insulting what changes they did make. Especially regarding the script because I feel like none of these people who may not have even played the game understand the nuances. The layers to Silent Hill 2 are so balanced and intended that changing or taking out any single element will cause the entire thing to collapse. ALSO WHERE IS EDDIE??? I DON'T SEE HIM. If and when he does appear that pizza better be the most delicious or cursed looking thing. Cause if not and it is just the result of a terrible advertising campaign with unfinished scenes (the graveyard one looks real rough), I'll be angry. While I have never owned the game, I will be checking out the Enhanced Edition of Silent Hill 2 properly at some point. Just need to make the proper time for it.
With this getting in my recommended, I will definitely check out your other stuff, you got a good sense of humor with the references made here but also the criticisms presented. I don't think the same crew who made "The Medium", a Silent Hill 2 inspired game, will deliver. I'd be fine if proven wrong but given their track record, I do not think this prediction is irrational. @@jb2einziger Though if I had to say one thing regarding your Silent Hill 2 video, I wouldn't rely on using stuff from the wiki. I'll be sure to put aside from time to see what else you got. Probably the RE related ones first.
@@ScottE-2 do you mean my longer SH2 video ? The analysis/review ? If so I haven’t gotten any information from there, it’s all my own views and thoughts on the game but I just used a couple screenshots from it to show what I was talking about as couldn’t find decent images on other sites, but that’s not the source of my thoughts on any points made etc, and yeah I’ve got reviews on - RE7 Biohazard, RE4 (original) and RE4 (remake) as well as a top 10 video games list on here
@@jb2einziger That's fair I guess. I'm surprised you didn't just reference someone's long play instead. That way you wouldn't have to record new footage for what you're talking about specifically. Something that bothers me is that sometimes people refer to the wiki for information regarding Silent Hill 2 or even the original Silent Hill. There's a fascinating video by Lucky Bun (I think that was his name) where he played through the original Silent Hill 1 where at the end he explains why 1 guy was responsible for the misinterpretation that the company and movies would adapt. Because of a GameFAQs post. It's quite interesting. I'll be sure to see the RE4 OG video later today.

With this Remake the overall tone concerns me the most. The dialog & voice acting seems off. The attitudes & vibes of each character & their personalities aren't right. It sounds like they don't understand the characters or how to achieve the correct tone through out the game.
I hope it will be good. I'm just worried this game will treat us like children tho. With hand holdy gameplay. Button prompts, Toned down storytelling, you name it. Hopefully they don't go that direction where they don't want to make people uncomfortable because this game is meant to make people uncomfortable. If they aren't okay with creating a uncomfortable inappropriate game then they really picked the wrong team to make a game such as this.
The movement seems really stiff, it's like the character isn't interacting with their environment. The weight and movements with certain objects seems off.
I'm okay with them making some changes. There are ways many things can be changed and still hold the same core of this game. I hope they find ways to achieve that. (it is annoying how divided and out of control a lot of people are getting. I wish things weren't so weirdly divided. Then some counter the critical people with a sorta Toxic Positivity. I wish valid criticism could be heard and addressed. It will be nice if things can chill out and we can get back to being able to critique things in a healthy way again lol)
Great points and very well said 👍 yeah I get what you mean I’m also hoping they keep more of an ambiguous feel and uncomfortable environment/tone, like you say it’s dealing with serious and dark subject matter so it can’t dumb it down too much as it will suck all the mystery out of the game etc if they’re constantly spelling everything out for the audience etc, but yeah I’m still definitely going to play it and most likely review it once I’m done, if you are a big fan of the original which by the sounds of it you are, you should check out a in depth review/analysis style video I made on the original SH2 on my channel, it’s called my love letter to silent hill 2 and it’s by far my hardest worked on video and my most successful/popular, I think you may enjoy it 😊👍 thanks for watching !
I don’t like Angela’s reinterpretation, but the original dialogs were mostly terrible except for Maria and some Laura’s. The dialog before flesh lips boss fight is 200% better now and Laura doesn’t have the room key anymore. I’m trying to say, with terrible dialogs and terrible gameplay SH2 is still a masterpiece. I don’t see why the remake wouldn’t be a great experience too.
Yeah I know some people find the dialogues awkward or strange, do you mean specifically the writing of them ? Like the script itself or how they’re performed ? And I can see why newcomers to the series will largely enjoy the new remake as it will smooth over any rough edges gameplay wise etc, just like the RE remakes have done for people that may have found the original resident evils difficulty to adapt too etc, thanks for watching hope you enjoyed the video 👍
@@jb2einziger both the scripting and the acting I don’t mean awkward, I mean bad even funny. I played since 1999 not a newcomer at all. I’m saying that you cannot expect that kind of dialogs in a remake they have to make them more realistic
@@sin_loco_en_el_coco oh yeah I wasn’t referring to yourself I just mean for new players in general, good to see you’re a SH veteran 👍👌 and yeah they’ll definitely change a ton of dialogue and writing I’m sure, they’ll probably just keep key conversations story wise but change wording in places
Honestly making Silent Hill more like Resident Evil is the completely the wrong direction. It doesn't stand out anymore just looks like every other remake to come out in the last 5 years. Lying figures busting through windows, "Nurses in training" come on flickering lights and then a monster. Silent Hill is supposed to buck these tropes. Silent Hill 2 orignal (hate i have to call it that now) was kinda renown for that. Hope everyone who buys this game enjoys it but it will always be just a pale imitation to me.
Yeah I see what you mean, it’s just capitalising off of the success of all the RE remakes as apart from 3 they’ve all been quite highly praised, so they’re just following the same formula, but I’m hoping the story is still in tact and well told they keep saying in all these promotional videos that they’re staying as true as possible to it, and yeah nothing could ever surpass the originals atmosphere & storytelling, I’m still going to play it and make my mind up on it but I know I’ll probably still be going back to the original SH2 instead for years to come 👍 thanks for watching

Are you familiar with the original game and Angela’s character ? It’s quite a normal reaction to think that they’d change her personality slightly for modern audiences to not offend anyone by not making her seem timid, weak and emotionally shut off and distant, which she is supposed to be as that’s how the character was purposefully written to give us the audience the clues about why she is the way she is, changing any aspect of that messes with the original intent of the writers and meanings behind her character.
The acting for the new Laura is nice though. She sounds mysterious and creepy. The little actress is crazy! 👍
Yeah I’d say all the new voices sound suited to the characters, someone also mentioned the other day we still haven’t seen Eddie yet !? I never even thought of that until now, wonder what he’ll look/sound like ?
Do not buy this "remake"... just play Original PS2 Game...
I do still own my original copy of SH2 and play it at least a couple times a year, I’d still be interested to give the remake a shot and if I don’t like it I haven’t lost anything really I’ll just know to stick with the original form then on, same goes for my favourite game which is RE4, I was almost dead set against a remake but I ended up liking it just as much if not more than the original, so I still want to give it a fair shot 👍
