Aha. That’s it. I’m realizing it’s an envy and anger thing yes. Taking advantage of or projecting negativity onto someone you perceive as having more power than you. I would never take advantage like that but I’m calling myself out right now for this negative attitude I have toward rich people. I’m new to this channel, but right away I’m seeing I need to do Thai inner work to release these misperceptions that are blocking me. Thank you Mina for starting this conversation. This happens to me often because I look put together, so I decided as my own rule I won’t use a business that doesn’t have their prices clearly listed. If I must do business with someone who doesn’t have their prices listed then I negotiate, and haggle them down. Since they haven’t made their prices clear I assume it’s up for negotiation. And I’m the queen of that!
I grew up in money. Old money family you could say. Like a couple generations. What you are describing is something long know by generational wealth, it is the very reason why ‘old money’ dress for the ocassion (like not wearing a ball gown to walmart or a chanel bag to a small shack or while at a modest place). Ppl that come from wealth make a point to go under the radar as to not be taken advantage of or attract this type or predation. Its the price for dressing up in a modest place. Natural consequence.
Yes this happens often Mina. What I do is call ahead first and ask for prices or estimate prices. I take the name of the person I speak to and give them mine. Then when I attend in store (or wherever it may be), its very difficult for them to change prices or veer too far away from the estimate they have quoted. I never expect to pay less, just the fair price.
It may be a container issue because you’ve allowed your spouse to take care of things like this. You may have to practice being savage feminine when it comes to shopping and spending money. Human predatory behavior is not just in relationships. The container expansion is calling things out the first time and not doubting yourself when something feels off. New level, same devil?
This is so true Mina! My mom experiences this. She always tips well and never checks the tab. They always double charge her for things and she now has us (her girls) check her tab because they alwaysss do this! It’s so unfair and discriminatory, I agree. I hate it because you never want to feel like you’re haggling someone over the price of something, but also people do make mistakes so never feel funny about calling it out when it happens. I think they could tell that I wasn't looking at the prices, I was just purchasing what I felt like I wanted to purchase.

😱I live in Jamaica and experience this whenever I go to the local food market (your version of a farmers market). The overcharge me so much that I end up paying way more than I would pay shopping in an air conditioned supermarket where the produce is nicely packaged. At the market they sell their produce on little tables, carts, back of their minivans or on the ground so their overheads are very low. I used to want to buy from them because I love the idea of supporting other women but they made me feel like a bleeding person in a sea of sharks.

Yes it’s one of those rich people problems. I get this too! They do this here in Dubai as well at souks etc. they see you are from abroad or dressed up they can smell money. You have to be able to talk and tell them off every-time even if it’s feel bit cheap 🎉

Many moons ago I worked for a very wealthy family and this ALWAYS happened to them. So they often had an assistant do these tasks like dry-cleaning etc... They only shopped at certain places where the service was worth the price or places that couldn't discriminate like the grocery store. I think after a while you get used to it and don't really see it at discrimination. Side note a lot of wealthy people don't look wealthy, they dress like regular people so that's a thing too.

Yes ive experienced this! Also ive experienced the opposite as well - getting discounts, additional sales mark down, free produxts/services. But i agree bumping up the prices based on gender and what people percieve to be a wealth and high status is ridiculously unfair. I consider myself well put together not necessarily rich and this happens to me.
My grandfather was a mechanic and told me they always charged people that looked wealthy more on purpose, especially if it was a woman because they expected her to not notice.
I can honestly say that I’ve charged more for hair services to some richer ppl but only because they showed discomfort if I gave them a price they thought should be more. I have even been asked “why is it so cheap?” for something I was charging $750 for 😅😅😅 I had to pretend I was offering a sale that day to keep her from running away 😂😂😂
Mina, It happens to me many times, but I always cut the crap off. On the othet hand, there are many occassions also when I got discounts and reduced prices and extras because I look feminine and I act nice and sweet! I guess for feminine women it goes both ways!

The price increase could be also because if you take name brands altered, there is a huge risk for the seamstress to ruin your garment and that is why they charge more. They also spend more time being careful with your precious item 🌸

Beautiful bag! Regarding targeted price gouging, it happens to me all the time, especially at jewelry and alteration places. I have comforted both business owners and they apologized. I continue to go back to these businesses as they are in my backyard but my energy totally changes when I go there
The same thing happens to me all the time. I had this conversation with my hubby and he also said it is definitely they way we (ladies) carry ourselves and dress. It is worse when we both (hubby and I) are well dressed and carrying expensive items, I abhor the feeling of been looked at if we are idiots. 😢

Yes mina, this happens I use to never check prices as a teen till my father told me you should check the price and then decide is it going to make you feel this worthy or not And after that learning i started observing price tag soon realise my design just always hick up the price as soon as she sees me and my mom and if i go with my dad prices always much down. That always happens to me and i'm not even Mina 's level of wealth or any girls member in her channel when my partner is paying my shopping, and I think he mentioned that it happened a few times that it really bothered him so one time at this specific shop that we shopped for the third time he really raised the issue and at the shop they were " oh that's weird " when he said it and won't even gonna escalate or help with the issue until my partner showed them the tag price, he's a lawyer by the way so you all know he'll do anything to win an argument or issue😅 But I'm not gonna lie, it made me feel embarrassed though we didn't do anything wrong

This happened to me an American woman looking put together while traveling, I've gone to high-end restaurants in other countries and been charged 3X my actual bill. I think they're banking on me being "well-mannered" and taking that as weakness. I just looked and asked for the manager and then they backed out and fixed it.
It’s definitely stealing, people think it’s ok to steal from the rich (Peter pan) so they never feel guilty about doing stuff like this. Unfortunately, we get taken advantage of because of it, just be mindful of the outrageous prices but don’t let it ruin your shopping experience.
Agree, it's discrimination. I haven't experienced it personally but it also doesn't feel good to me hearing about this. Seems like people charge too little out of scarcity mindset and then start overcharging wealthy looking people.

Yeah there are martial arts centers for kids that will try to sell you a higher membership per month!! Not based on looks or status but if you pass on their initial sale, they will slash the price or "registration fee" for you. It's horrible way of doing business
