They are really defaming this great young artist in uncivilised ways and claim to be knowledgeable about music. Only people like you can show the truth in full light. I wish you could have a meeting with Dimash in which he would show to these doubters how talented he is. However, even one video in which you analyse if this is playback or live sound, or an analysis of his acapella performance might do some good.

Dear Ceci, I love this performance too!!! Drunken Concubine in dialogue the tragic story between a famous concubine of the Chines imperial court, Li Yugang in that role, and the emperor, Dimash´s rol that´s why the throne at stage. At the end of the story the concubine is poisoned as a result of court intrigues. Li Yugang is a famous artist considered China´s National Treasure and he is a nan dan singer (male playing female roles) art forms from Peking Opera, giving the traditional art a modern edge. The way he moves (knees bent together and those "meows" have a special meaning in the traditional opera). What is most amazing about Li is that he could´nt study in the university or conservatory of music, he is absolutely autodidact which is so admirable!! 👌👍💥

Hola Ceci, el compañero de duo de Dimash canta en un estilo de la ópera de Pekin. El jingju (京剧), que es como se dice ópera de Pekín en chino, es un género de xiqu (戏曲), que es una forma de arte escénica que integra el canto, la recitación, la actuación teatral y las artes marciales. se inició a mediados del siglo XIX y que se hizo extremadamente popular entre la corte de la dinastía Qing. Está considerada como una de las máximas expresiones de la cultura de China.

Absolutely love this performance! 'Drunken Concubine' tells the story of the Emperor (Dimash) and the concubine (Li Yugang). The Emperor is sentencing the concubine to death (I think for treason), this is when he does the vocal fry, and she reminds him of the wonderful time they had together when they were drunk. The Emperor says that he wishes that they could have 1 more time getting drunk together. Li Yugang is famous in the Peking Opera for playing women's roles (Chinese tradition). Thank you Ceci for this great reaction and analysis! Really enjoyed this. (also, did you note the thick soles on Li Yugang's feet? Dimash is so much taller that they felt that he needed a bit of height so that they would look more balanced while singing. Also, Li Yugang is in his 40's although he looks much younger)

This duet is so unusual for Dimash. I would love to see a behind-the-scenes video of when Dimash and Li Yugang first met and started arranging their vocals together. They must have had so much fun learning how they could blend their sounds! Beautiful performance from both of them.

I love that Dimash is never intimidated by other great singers, and celebrates music and song by cheering them and collaborating with them. Li Yugong has a gorgeous feminine Chinese operatic voice that meshes well when playing off Dimash’s more masculine voice. A fantastic pair indeed!

Note: For Dimash, things like styles, ranges, registers, genres are meaningless. He can use any of them without being restricted, and definitely not like to be classified. For him, arts is freedom. He will use any styles, ranges, registers and genres as he sees fit to the meaning of the song.

No entiendo como hay usuarios que aún ponen no me gusta, la verdad no lo entiendo, este Dimash es medio loco, el compañero trata de parecer una cumcubina, esa es la idea, no hay otra explicación, gracias por explicar porque la voz, pero Dimash está loco, la verdad tremenda fusión de voces diferentes.

Thanks for another amazing reaction. This was a unique and brilliant duet between Dimash and Li Yugang. Dimash was fantastic as usual. He sings the part of the emperor while Li sings the part of the concubine.
Here's some background that you requested. Li was professionally trained to develop his singing and acting in nan dan (a male playing the female role in Peking Opera). He was given the title of China's First Class Artist (National Treasure).
In the 2nd half of the duet, Li's singing style imitates the high registers of the Erhu (Chinese 2-stringed instrument). Dimash also does an Erhu imitation towards the end of the song. An example of the Erhu can be heard here - ruclips.net/video/KW5y3GkyX9A/видео.html

The Story behind the "Drunken Concubine"
Set in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the "Drunken Concubine" tells a story of emperor's beloved concubine Yang Yuhuan, also known as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China.
The main character of this opera is Yang. One night she arranges a banquet in an imperial garden and waits for the emperor to come, but the emperor never turns up. Yang realizes he chose another concubine over her and feels humiliated, furious and depressed. The opera shows the change of Yang's mood and also reflects how ancient feudalism oppresses women.

I enjoyed your reaction and analysis of this wonderful performance. I appreciated that you went into detail about Li Yugang's vocal technique towards the last third of the performance. The explanation and the prop you used to demonstrate what was happening helped me better understand how Li is able to sing the way that he does in that section. It was very interesting!
