  • The central heating is working fine but there is no hot water. This combination boiler is installed to supply hot water and heating to the house. The heating is working fine but there is no hot water.
    In this video we show you how to replace the hot water diaphragm in the diverter valve.

    I must say many many thanks for your video WITH SOUND - I was quoted lowest price £235.00 to replace boiler no one was prepared to repair it - Job now done - Cost under £25.00 thanks again - Bob Law

      I guess the commenter meant £235 for the job in the video, not replacing the boiler.
      Funny thing that in many cases it'd be OK price for many - it's just the market of boiler specialists (at least in London) is bit crazy. There's way to many inexperienced, borderline scammy repairmen. Then there's category who insist on completely replacing the boiler instead of repairing a perfectly serviceable one. Which is a shame.

    Hi John! Managed to pick up just the necessary parts as a kit from Amazon for £3.80. This will save me gallons of water and, consequently, money! Many thanks for this very informative video - it took me about 20 minutes to replace the diaphragm.

    Very usefull instructional video. Have just used it to do this job and would add the following; The kit has a very small o-ring that slides on the shaft before fitting that plug but so it sits in the end of the plug; note the spring is very strong so be careful not to damage the sensor pipe when removing and replacing that end cover. I wrapped insulation tape around the pliers to avoid damaging the metal spigot as had to grip very tightly. Also, I used the grease supplied to slightly smear the two metal spigots. Note that my hot water isolation valve was stuck so could not turn it off but very little water came out anyway.

    • @FriendlyFireBrigade

      Hi Brain, could you explain where the o-ring goes exactly please? thanks a lot

    • @brianclarke4145
      @brianclarke4145 3 года назад

      @@FriendlyFireBrigade Where the shaft that operates the microswitch projects through the outside of the assembly, the o ring is placed in the hole before screwing in the plug. My previous comment more or less states this but hopefully this clarifies it. I am aware that some instructions omit to mention this o ring.

    • @FriendlyFireBrigade
      @FriendlyFireBrigade 3 года назад

      @@brianclarke4145 thanks Brian, especially for you initial comment! After the replacement nut/plug arrived with the O-ring stuck to it with silicone grease, I figured it out by myself. Whoever replaced the last plug/diaphragm in my boiler did not fit the O-ring at all. That's why it was leaking and with limescale bild-up around the plug until it did not move properly anymore. I think the biggest problem is this o-ring is not mentioned in the boiler documents / exploded diagram

      Yeah I know it's a little late but for future reference it goes on the plate which was still attached. You can see the front push rod. This is a new seal for the rear push rod. When the knackered rubber diaphragm is removed. It basically goes into the whole you can see in the centre. Sorry if I sound a little confusing. I hope this helps.

    Twice! After a leak Dec 2017, I replaced the Diaphragm and now it's gone again but with loss of hot water this time but no leak. What is it with the design? However, looking at the records the Boiler Main HE24 appears to be installed 2004 so the original lasted around eleven years? Can someone please explain?

      Hi,
      I have the same problem on a baxi 105e, the original lasted approx 10 years or so, and now I have to probably replace the diagphram approx every 12 months, due to lack of hot water, I just put it down to the replacement parts of today being inferior quality..

    thank you, very helpful video, saved me £1500, every plumber I spoke to only wanted to sell me a new boiler, they weren't interested in repairing it! cost me £11.50 for repair kit. (just one thing, its obvious I guess, but u dont mention to turn off water at stopcock, of course only an idiot wouldn't do that, ahem lol)

  • @rayc1503
    @rayc1503 5 лет назад

    Turn off the cold water inlet to the boiler. Then turn on the lowest dhw tap, then back off again. The boiler doesn't need to be drained down to change the dhw diaphragm. Only if you're going ahead and changing the central heating membrane too. Neither flow & return need to be isolated either. Again only if the smaller rubber is to be changed.

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 5 лет назад

      @tearsdontfall14 Not at all. I suggest having a little plumber/silicone grease though. If you look on ebay or Amazon. Some of the sellers will send a tiny pack with it.
      Just close the blue inlet pipe under the boiler and run the lowest hot water point in the house. You'll need a small adjustable wrench or 10mm spanner to undo the top nut. Then a flat head to undo the 6 screws for the rubber diaphragm.
      I highly recommend you isolate the power to the boiler 1st. Also if you can wrap the drop down control board with black bin liners. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET ANY WATER ON THE PCB.

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 5 лет назад +1

      @tearsdontfall14 Sorry if it's the central heating side which is the small one to the rear isolate all the supply taps under the boiler. Except the central one (Gas). Then drain to the rear right behind the pump. If you remove the front hot water chamber on the diverter valve ( there will be 2 grub screws, you'll need a stubby screwdriver. You can change the central heating diaphragm without removing the whole Diverter.

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 5 лет назад

      @tearsdontfall14 Remove the from dhw chamber 1st. Make sure boiler is isolated at electric and below all taps are closed. Drain point is behind the pump small section of hose and a bucket. Long flat should help you open it and drain.
      If you haven't got the service user manual download it.
      Good luck

      Can I ask if changing the diaphragm (of the front valve) as shown in this video can sort out the leak problem as well?
      Got water dripping from the middle/connecting part between the front valve and the rear valve. Not sure if the whole valve unit needs to be replaced, or changing only the DHW diaphragm will do the trick?
      Hope you can give some hints, thanks a lot!

      @@General18988 Google this item number 232231244804 it comes with the gland nut (replace this & washer provided too). As it's a moving part it wears down over time. Firstly drain the boiler as above.
      Clean the internal area and lightly smear the outer rubber diaphragm with the silicone grease provided. Make sure you have the item number provided at minimum. You can purchase a rebuild kit for the diverter valve to. But that means you have to remove the whole part.

    My bath water isn't getting that hot, discovered that some of the heat/water is going to the rads even when the CH is off,...my diverter valve must be stuck, just ordered that repair kit but is the diaphragm in the front part always the problem? What about the other section that that's connected to, all the other parts of the repair kit/smaller diaphragm go in that??

  • @davidlarkinson4081
    @davidlarkinson4081 5 лет назад

    Good and clear explanation. My Baxi 105e is heating the radiators as well as the hot water. I'll check the diaphragm and ensure that the pin is moving correctly first. Otherwise I suspect that another part of the diverter valve is stuck open. Luckily I have TRV's on most radiators. Is it tricky to remove the whole diverter valve ? Have you previously attempted it ?
