I’ve just changed my expansion vessel with success thanks to your video and now my boiler is working perfectly. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to give it a go without seeing this so thanks again! 👍
Thanks for the video,I had to watch it three times to get all the points, but read the comments about changing the valve first, which I did and it cost me £12 instead of the £120+ parts
@@MrMeltedwellies hi mark I get a E168 fault. I can have hot water but when heating comes on the fault pops up. I can hear the system clicking but it doesn't heat the rads. Does this does familier Was looking at buying a diverter valve and doing this myself. I'll be watching your video as I'm doing it
I was really very happy to find your video, as I have exact same job to do, I am very worried about the sensors, I am not sure if it’s threaded or push fit, I know you did this video almost a 7 years ago but if get my comment, kindly advise on removing the sensor from old assembly to putting on to new one, Thank you
Personally I would have first changed the cartridge inside the diverter valve as that is what switches the boiler from heating to hot water and back to heating. It is also quicker simpler and cheaper.
soz i never got a quote every time i asked a plumber no one turned up i did get a quote to change my heat exchanger £450 so i did it myself for £35 off ebay took me 25 mins
Didn't see your video Mark as my boiler is Baxi Bermuda Biotec so similar valve but mine has the bypass on the rear. Just replaced it all and working again.
Hi Mark, when re pressurising the system is there any way to bleed the boiler before opening the tap to the heating system ? Or do you just use the loop to pressurise as normal where does the air go ?
Hi Mark. I have the same boiler. My central heating has been off all summer. I switched it back on early October. Some radiators get hot some don’t. Sometimes they get really hot sometimes just luke warm. I’ve bled them, no change, ive flushed them too. Boiler seems to be fine. I’ve checked the thermostatic valves they’re all okay. Any ideas what it could be?
Hi Mark have you done any videos on how to replace the Auto air vent above the pump on the right hand side mine is leaking slightly and I've got a new one but don't know how to fit it, cheers mate.
Hi Mark, I'm about to attempt to change the heat exchanger. I have the same boiler as you. From your vid It looks like the rubber seals just sit inside the diverter valve openings on the back, and the exchanger openings then just seal up against those rubber seals after tightening the screws, making it water tight, Is this right? sorry I don't know how else to explain my question. Thanks.
That's the example I always use, had a plumber give me a ticking off for replacing the pump in my boiler a few years ago, the very same plumber who sat in his driveway and worked on his own van, he got a bit stuck with his brakes and was given the number of a local mechanic by a friend, that mechanic was me!!!!!! Nice pot-kettle-black moment
I am all in favour of doing it yourself if you think you can, anytime mine breaks down I will be trying to figure out what is wrong with it before calling an engineer :-)
The diverter valve on detours heating water circuit to a heat exchange jacket The cold water supply to the hot water heat exchanger does not pass through the diverter valve ONLY through the heat exchanger Your heating system water needs flushing and refilling using an inhibiter That will pevent this type of problem
Hi mate. I have the same combi as this. I'm having an issue where I have hot water no issue, but no central heating. The thermostat is all paired fine, as I can hear the boiler keep trying to turn on the heating when I set it to (clicking) but nothing.... Would this be a case of replacing the diverter valve only? Could it be something more simple? If its the pocket hole option, where can I get a replacement from? Cheers mate
Hi, Ive just changed the cartridge in the diverter valve but I still have no heating. Is it worth changing the whole assembly? The assembly just looks like tubing that houses the valve so I don't know if it can go wrong? any suggestions asap would be welcome. Ive had no heating all through this really cold spell. Thanks.
It depends which type of diverter valve you have. I have pre 2008 and the insert can not be replaced on its own. Only the whole valve. Baxi technical advice confirmed it after Gas Safe boiler engineer tried to change insert and it did not fit.
Actually, dave. I'm a gas engineer, and you are allowed to work on your own boiler. GSUIR states, as long as it's not for reward and your competent. The competent part is ambiguous tho

Great job well done
Well done Mark for fixing it yourself. These plumbers (not heating engineers) never turn up and when they do they charge you ridiculous money.
Minarchist 412 Is
That's because we need to pay are mortgage to!!
Thanks very much, I replaced mine in about 40mins heating is working a treat now.
Thanks for watching

@@joncocks2262 sounds like a blockage in the system. The diverter kit is around £20. Much cheaper to renew the rubber diaphragms and o rings.
Love it man, Love your attutude to life and not caring and going for fixing it yourself.
Such a good video saved me thanks
Glad to hear it!
Thank you very well understood followed your instructions I have same boiler everything fine because of you
Glad it helped
brilliant - similar issue will try replacing the 'Diverter Valve Cartridge' instead of the entire valve itself.

For a fellow diver good on ye and well done roll with the punches some you win some you have to work at keep up the excellent videos
Thank you very much. Your video saves us because the gas fixer people robbing us.
No problem 👍

Thanks for the tip,it's exactly what I did ,was piss easy and only cost me £12
This man is absolutely brilliant'''ahh he explains and says it in layman's words'''''
i was always lead to believe as long as you dont touch the gas side its fine to work on your boiler
Excellent video. How much would this typically cost to be replaced. I've been quoted £505 but thats seems a little high to me.

Could be pump or sludge soz its a bit tricky when its not your own boiler Mark
Is the little sensor at 10:22 the same spec as the one on a Mains Eco? If yes, can you tell me what part (name and/or part number) to order plz?

hi Colin just done a video for you link above all the best Mark
Hi mark what size washers do I need. Might I just about to order new valve so want to do this is 1 sitting
Just replacing the cartridge is much easier, avoids replacing the entire block
Hi Mark, how long did it take to change the valve?
Just a thought. Should I replace the motor first in case it is just fault. Thanks for your video.
Try looking up how to test my boiler pump ,then you might have a better idea

Price for diverter valve is £89 with VAT is £118 it has the gasket too but always check,
why would somebody tell you off, you fix the brakes on your own car , nanny state pissis me off
bravo

Can this be cleaned instead of changed?
not sure
Yes it can, but you will need to change the cartridge inside of it.

Hint: Cover PCB with a plastic bag to avoid water :)
Anyone have the correct part number for this exact diverter valve please ?

I hate these things. It's a nightmare to work inside these things. Good luck!
how do you drain the central heating circuit?
😂😂😂
What’s the cos of these parts please
Paweł Grzymski I payed £89 pounds plus VAT in total £112 pounds in, its has hall the gasket in there too, hop this help

I'm not a plumber but try the diverter motor switch first.
bet they can't stand you at the local garage! ☺
I used to be a mechanic, & my son works there!
Quick tip; drain the boiler first using the boiler drain cock and a short piece of hose. Amateur hour!!!!
No need to change the full valve, i can change the insert in about 10 mins. Leave it to the experts buddy.
I tried to leave it to the "Experts"but no one turned up !!!!!
My 'expert' visited twice and it still wasn't fixed. He advised a new boiler. i changed the valve like this and it is running again.
what expert??? more like cowboys.
they change almost every part apart from the faulty one, it's a joke.
Just change the cartridge not the whole valve

It is illegal to work on gas appliances unless you are registered to do so only registered with gas safe number
Your plumber is WRONG
Actually, dave. I'm a gas engineer, and you are allowed to work on your own boiler. GSUIR states, as long as it's not for reward and your competent. The competent part is ambiguous tho
Did you complete relevant safety checks though? Also you should make the diyers aware of this as house insurance would be invalid also
Competence is proved by completing acs assessments every 5 years
