  • If there's one positive to come from America's Playground, it's that I have finally come to a particular realization. Fallout 76 is popular enough to be sustained, but it will never overdeliver on expectations.

The biggest disappointment for me with this specific update is they didn't at least bother to add like, sewer tunnels or subways or anything to navigate through to move between the 3 areas, y'know like Fallout 3 did with DC.
That was basically the bare minimum I expected for how they'd make AC openly explorable.
Also they didn't even bother with a day/night cycle, so the pier is still always night and the Casino quarter and Flooded District are always day.

Why? New Vegas showed us Obsidian was better at making a Fallout game than Bethesda... they didn't learn anything. Why would they learn anything now? I would argue than anyone would be better at making a Fallout game than Bethesda. It's not that they didn't have passion for Fallout 3, or perhaps 4... certainly Far Harbor... but that talent has left the building. What's left is just a license, and a new generation of young new developers who came to the Fallout universe late and like it, but are not as attached to it as those of us who grew up with it over the last 3 decades. I wish people would stop promoting Bethesda. It's lost it's way.

I never was a fan of their games, even ''good ones''. I think they all have critical flaws, it is amazing in some areas, but very very bad in some others. It is funny, cause most of their games are mid I guess, but individual aspects of those games is nothing of the sort, it is either amazing, or straight garbage, there is very little in between. I love idea of Bethesda game, but I always come out hating it. F4 was the last game of theirs that I have tried, and I am good at this point, loading screens just kills me in that game, and from what I have heard, Starfield has even more of those.
I honestly stunned FALLOUT is that popular. I guess New Vegas is good for a Cult Classic, but at least Bethesda titles are just straight not good at all IMO, I am stunned it maintained such a fanbase, like it is Mass Effect or smth.

A short lived adventure. But that's what mods are for. The mods are what make Bethesda games. They're the reason they and their games are still relevant. They can fix everything. Breathe new life into the game. A fresh lick of paint. They can add 100s of hours of gameplay to the game and allow you to live many lives beyond just being the Dragonborn or the Lone Wanderer, etc. The world is yours to shape. But that's all changing now. They're turning their back on we who made them great. So yeah, it's truly the Bethesda Dark Age. Or.. End Times.

@H_Grunt I do not think they turning their back, the reason why they kept their engine, was because moders knew how to use it. But at this point, I think Bethesda got to the point, where even 1000 of mods cant fix it, industry is so far ahead than their talent. I can play Starfield with hundred mods, still wont be as fun as base Spider-man PS4, at least to me. I'll try to say this in a way that makes sense....
I think the problem is, as we know it's an online, live service game, but at the same time it has to be a "Fallout" game, Online elements like Raids / Expeditions, Battlepass, Events, etc. And then the traditional Fallout stuff like Quests, Characters, and Enviroments etc, and they don't quite know how to find that perfect balance between both things... with this video, hopefully in the future they'll hit a bullseye on the target.

Judging by the fact that we can freely explore Atlantic City, Im taking it Bethesda has plans for it to be the new platform for DLC and stories going forward since the main map is close to being over filled. I actually want to see if this is the case. This game has dine good stories before, and honestly has some really memorable moments including the story for this expansion which, while being short and less grand, is a pretty good story not unlike the Lorenzo quest in 4. Maybe we'll actually see some more DLC like Wastelandets if they actually make this a completely separate world space. Blt sure how they'd do that though.

You would think a company with the amount of resources that Bethesda has, along with being owned by one of the biggest companies in the world, that they'd be able to make 76 a proper Fallout game, even if they'd have to take a considerable financial hit in the short term.
Then if the game was good, it would speak for itself and attract a sizable player base and become hugely profitable. And they would be praised for it.

I was excited about getting a 2nd chance to acquire some of the rare masks and plans. These events are not new to the game, and the fact that 75% of them would hang up, causing the events to fail, was beyond frustrating. My go-to was building. I love building in FO76, and that is even faulty now to keep hitting build to put down a floor, and it won't. Now the new seasons change. I think the saying "You can polish a turd, but its still a turd" is the best expression for this game. I feel same about this game, I am a massive fan of fallout, but every time I try to play this game, there is something hollow and unsatisfying. Might be the enemies being so dumb, the Computer and robots were replaced with human NPCs, but when you talk to them it feels so slow and like a robot. The story has no heart and I never care about any mission side or main.

I think fallout 76 went wrong because it has zero rp elements, so it doesn't feel like a fallout game it just feel like a mmo that looks like fallout

Games like Fallout 76 are like an old car that has some good parts but mostly its knackered, sure if you take time you can replace those old parts and make it like new but you might as well just get a new car and adding a new part bit by bit might make the old car SLIGHTLY better but its still mainly knackered.
