Make Room, Day 5

  • Make room… It implies that there needs to be a space cleared, that work needs to be done, that I have a choice to make. Over the past couple of years, I have had the privilege of journeying with God on a more personal and intimate level. I didn’t know it then but now looking back I can see it is because I have been “making room” for God in my life on a consistent basis. Two verses that stand out to me as I survey the journey I’ve been on with God these past two years are Matthew 6:33 and 2 Chronicles 2:14.
Matt. 6:33 “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” If you want to change your life, this right here is the best place to start. Instead of seeking to build my own kingdom I stopped trying and striving, I made room for God to write His story in my heart and I have not been disappointed, not even once. I’ve been so grateful to share this verse with many people and the deep impact it has had on my life over the past year. There’s no fear of the future, no fear of an untimely death, no fear in missed opportunities, no reason to hide from insecurities, no reason to doubt my place on this earth, I get to live and walk each day with the Creator of the whole Universe. I am free, He loves me and I am cherished by HIm. Nothing excites me more than to see this joy that I have from journeying with God spark in someone else life and they get to experience the joy and peace that come from walking humbly with Him each day.
This leads into the second verse, 2 Chronicles 2:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” I didn’t know what it meant to walk humbly with God until two years ago. Praying this promise and claiming it in my life, also letting God know that I did not know what it meant to have a humble heart before Him but that I wanted/needed Him to show me, has changed my life.
We look around the world today and it’s pretty messed up; lots of hate, anger, divisiveness, and unrest. It’s easy then to read the Bible and wonder “where is this God who seemed all-powerful?” I know, I asked this question, and as I have journeyed with God I have come to the understanding that God is still the same all-powerful God, He hasn’t changed but it is we who have not tapped into His power. We have not walked humbly with Him, we have not sought His Kingdom above our own. The Bible is God’s resume, when I read it I can’t help but see God almost pleading with whoever will read it that He longs to show us that He is trustworthy if we would simply journey with Him and allow Him to show us the “abundant life” He has planned for us and those around us. I don’t write from a head knowledge of Christian Theology but rather out of my heart and my personal experience and very real daily walk with God.
If you want to live fully alive, I dare you to claim these two verses above and see what God will do in your life. Will you make room?
