Your work is beautiful ! i admire the patience and talent you have, im trying to get some ideas on my diablo cosplay and this video was very helpful on how to give skin texture for monsters!!! thanks a lot! keep the amazing work!
Love your videos! My son and I have been building a dragon together over the past year. A question I have is how you get the consistency with your mix for scales. If I mix equal parts mache and glue I get a really sticky clay substance. I’ve tried several times with different ratios and it never becomes like a clay that is easy to form. Do you have any pointers. I used the same shredded mache you use in the video.
Thank you, Sometimes it does get sticky. I found that if I let it sit for a while it gets a little easier to work with. I don't measure the mixture out I just eyeball it and go by feel. I think you are putting too much glue in if you are using equal parts, but I am not sure because I really don't measure. When it is too sticky I add some more mache to the mixture. I put the mache in a bowl then add some glue, mix, add a little more glue, mix some more until I like the consistency. I know I am close when it starts sticking to itself and pulling off of my fingers while mixing. I hope this helps. I would also like to see the dragon you are working on. I really enjoy seeing other dragon artists work.
I bought some pulp from hobby lobby and mixed it with glue but i cant get it to turn into a doe ball like in the video...should i add water to the glue first
You can add water if you like. I just use the pulp and glue. I keep adding glue until it is a consistency I like. I don't use a precise measurement I just wing it.
Would making scales like this be safe to have on your face? Not dried directly on the skin, but made separate and glued on later? Im trying to cosplay, and would like to go all out on it
With paper mache clay, it doesn't attract bugs right? Because I don't like using water mixed with flour anymore because it rots badly & it attracts flour bugs. I've made a few paper mache masks from 6 years ago & they ended up decayed & infested with them. I would love to try out this technique but I need to know if it doesn't attract bugs. Thanks.
Darkless4X this hasn't attracted any bugs yet. You can use pva glue (Elmer's glue) instead of flour for the paper mache. The glue does not attract bugs.
KEYBROS fireking I use news paper, flour, elmers glue all, masking tape, aluminum foil, sculpey polymer clay, cut up clothes hanger wire, and the other stuff in thjs video. I am not sure where you can get newspaper in your area. In my area there are a few publications kf news that are free; I grab a bunch of those when I find them.
If you go to a newspaper printer they often have what they call short rolls left. This is when the roll really isn't worth them putting on the line and they sell it pretty cheap to you.
I use glue all. I once bought school glue by accident and it doesn't seem to dry as hard as the glue all; school glue seems to be a bit more watered down to me.
Raymond Bennett Ok thank you, I accidentally bought the school glue! :( Having trouble getting the consistency right with it. I guess I’ll have to go switch it out
Awesomepossum2011 just do whatever looks right to you. If you are happy with the way it looks, it really doesn't matter. I just start putting them on and just go with it.
Greece Pill I do use air dry clay also. I usually cover the horns with it. I havent ever put glue in wet clay. I use water to help keep it moist when working with it. Give it a try and let me know how it turns out. It may stick better.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to create this informative video I sincerely appreciate all the detail. Love your dragons!!

@@RaysDragonLair thanks for the feed back! I sent you a pic on fb.
As far as sticking I wonder if you used a primer if that would help giving it something to stick to. Thanks was a done video.

I dont see why not. It is just shredded paper and glue. You can also use water instead of glue with this fast mache stuff it dries just about as hard.

I like that!
Do you have a video on making eyes?
I don't make the eyes. I buy them from etsy.
@@RaysDragonLair ok thank you.
Will Elmer’s school glue work? Or does it need to be Glue All?
I use glue all. I once bought school glue by accident and it doesn't seem to dry as hard as the glue all; school glue seems to be a bit more watered down to me.
Raymond Bennett Ok thank you, I accidentally bought the school glue! :( Having trouble getting the consistency right with it. I guess I’ll have to go switch it out
Is there any particular order I place the scales
