  • Livestock is responsible for up to one-sixth of global greenhouse gas emissions, a problem that’s only getting worse as demand for meat and dairy continues to rise. One solution could lie in the oceans of Australasia, in a seaweed that’s proving to have incredible gas-cutting properties when added to animal feed.

    So important to consider the role livestock has in the climate crisis. Great video on a potential and creative solution!

    Why only telling the half off the methane cycle. Scientist know if the number off cows stay the same methane does not increase or decrease. With this seaweet the cows can benefit the environment.

      That's the thing, adding this feed prevents the cows from emitting methane decreasing the total.

    While Elon Musk says a prototype is easy, production is hard, if something has never been done before, a fully working prototype is a triumph.

    We need to do anything and everything to bring down greenhouse gasses and this is HUGE! May your endeavors bear remarkable results. ✌🏽Well done! One question. Can it be harvested 'carbon neutral' ?

    • @Dr.Gehrig
      @Dr.Gehrig Год назад +1

      It can. Technically it could be carbon negative.

    Cows eat grass, grass uses CO2 to grow, cows emit methane, methane breaks down into CO2 that the grass then absorbs… this livestock emissions myth baffles me.

    Does Livestock poop not smelly any more if intestine is happy? No more diarrhea?

    What about the emissions to obtain the seaweed? I’m not convinced

    • @Dr.Gehrig
      @Dr.Gehrig Год назад +1

      Those emissioms can be low to nothing. Indeed, scaling up seaweed farms can even technically make the process carbon negative if powered by carbon free electricity.

      I'm convinced that there's a reasonable solution other than banning cows. Indians that don't eat cows in the first place have no say over this.

    No one wants to give up their easyJet holidays twice a year and were trying to pin global warming on cows. I don't buy it!

      Cows produces methane which even though there a lot less in the atmosphere, it acts far worse than CO2

    • @Conservator.
      @Conservator. 2 года назад +1

      What’s easier (or more feasible) to achieve:
      ban Easyjet holidays or add seaweed to cow feed?
      My initial thought: why don’t we change our own diet? So I get your point but I think we should grab every opportunity to reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses and this development seems promising.
      It’s not an argument to not do everything else to reduce emissions but this could have a significant impact.

      Well i see your point about flying, but cow farts are actually a big issue.

    • @Dr.Gehrig
      @Dr.Gehrig Год назад +1

      This is PART of the total emissions. About 7% of global emissions is methane from cattle, less than 3% comes from air travel.

    Nope, but artificially-grown meat factories can. Next.

      This is far closer to becoming a reality at scale and has far fewer hurtles and a much lower price.
