    Well done for recognizing the difference between professional studio and audiophile headphones, it's a distinction few reviewers seem to make. I use Adam headphones with my sound desk, they're not my favourite listening headphones but they are extremely accurate and revealing. I love my Audioquest night hawk headphones for just listening to music but they'd be a disaster for mixing and monitoring.

    I ended up returning my X55 because at the end of the day they weren't the most agreeable with some of the music I listen to, my HP50 was getting used much more. But I will still to attest to these being great headphones. Ended up getting a 6xx for super cheap and quite like them, but their soundstage is still less than that of the Hi-x55. The Hi-x55 is a detail monster for sure and I will miss that but only ever really reaped the benefit of that with some more complex music that a bit free of bass at least in my case.
    I certainly look forward to see more of your journey with the Hi-x55. Got a Emu Teak that I also scored for cheap coming tomorrow. Time to see if I've just been a basshead this entire time without realizing it. That midbass punch of the Hi-x55 left me yearning for more bass, it was even a bit frustrating at times in my case and felt like a tease when a song went from midbass to the deeper end only for the X55 to show that in detail only. After all I think I will get another Hi-x55 down the line when the wallet can warrant them and that my music collection becomes expansive enough to have loads of albums that they'd excel with.

    I found that MT8 has good bass texture, not as good as adam audio sp5 but still very good. But my ear touched the inner plastic cone, I sold it years ago. ATH-M70X sounds very similar to MT8 but better comfort. Both have a little too much treble hot spots. But are actually a little darker in the lower treble upper midrange. Both are still slightly raspy, or dry sounding to me. Biggest problem for me on MT8 was small stage. Have not heard NDH20 though, dunno if that plays in a league above them.

    And i just finished the X55 series, great stuff man very informative through and through. Thank you.
    Since i own the K361, how would you compare it for soundstage, tonality and details retrieval ? Have you done the New Light test with the one you had/have ? Just curious to hear what you think in comparison, i'm guessing the X55 is in another league for resolution ? From memory my DT770 had a bit more details already.

      The AKG headphones--both the 361 and 371--have very small soundstage, below average. Both headphones are pretty awful with detail retrieval, some of the weakest I've heard so far. There is no comparison between these and the x55.

      @@NoThemeReviews What do you think about the hyped Fioo Btr 5 Receiver?

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 года назад +2

      @@ludwigflatscher2057 I made a few videos about the BTR5. It's a fine product, no better or worse than the cheaper alternatives. People keep saying it has amazing sound quality but they're uninformed schmucks. All you need to know is that I tested the BTR5 against the UP4, ES100, and W3. None of these devices has any audible noise over BT, all easily drive 32 ohm headphones, all have the same BT codecs, all function as USB dacs, all have apps (though the usability of said apps is not consistent). The UP4 and ES100 are the only two that actually offer something unique--the ES100 has the best application with a tremendous amount of customization. The UP4 has the dual dac mode, which allows you to use unbalanced headphones but still get the power output of balanced.
      In comparison, the BTR5 has a gimmick OLED screen that is difficult to navigate with its laughably small buttons. Its app was at the time I reviewed it hands down the worst of any BT dac. Its power output was not significantly higher than the UP4's. Its form factor was larger than the others.
      Those who claim that any of these BT devices has "the best" sound quality should be immediately disbelieved. They are not offering any objective analysis, but subjective opinion masked as "fact." All of these devices have slightly different audio tuning, which will affect headphones/IEMs differently, which will be pleasant or unpleasant depending on songs/genre, and the listener's own personal preferences.
      The BTR5 is yet another Fiio device that is falsely marketed and hyped by shills like Zeos. It is once again another basic product with lipstick that new "audiophiles" continually promote because they 1) have no prior experience with another similar device, 2) have never done actual A/B tests, 3) instill their own personal preferences into the opinions rendered, and 4) lack common sense.
      I've had many debates with people about the BTR5, some people merely disagreeing, while others were quite vitriolic and abusive. My findings about this expensive, under-delivering, average product have not changed.

    Your channel is by far the best at comparison audio reviews. Yamaha will clearly be my replacement closed cans for commuting when Covid ends and my ATHM40X go bust or are gifted. Unless closed back planars get much cheaper.
    I understand why you pick on companies for their claims on their products but, these are virtually known and accepted truths:
    - no company accurately presents it's products.
    - audio companies have basically nothing to say. Every product is the best they can get it to sound in that budget and that type of product.
    - nobody really cares about what companies say. Specs and reviews are all that matter.

      Well, I agree to an extent. Some people know when to spot BS, but that comes from experience. I get questions every day about ideas and beliefs that are downright embarrassing. When I ask these people where they got their understanding of the issue, they always tell me it’s either from reviewers on YT or forum posts. So, clearly, the level of misinformation is rampant. You merely have to look at a random Headfi, Reddit, or Zeos propaganda website post, and you’ll quickly notice people making ridiculous claims about gear they either have no idea how to use or simply voicing uninformed opinions.

    • @CraciunAlexandruGh
      @CraciunAlexandruGh 4 года назад

      @@NoThemeReviews I completely agree the BS should be challenged wherever it is, I guess the writing on the box for an audio product was something I never believed, it just sounded idyllic all the time.
      It is hard to challenge misinformation since sometimes it is hard to differentiate from actual subjective impressions. After all, if a set of tin cans sound good to someone, then their appreciation might be is genuine.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 года назад

      No doubt. Anything about audio is subjective. There’s no getting around it. You could go with the ASR Winnebago and harp on measurements all day long and listen because you absolutely have to, but that’s a ridiculous way of judging gear. I think the problem really is with reviewers promoting their own personal preferences and becoming a marketing arm for any company that might financially benefit them. I don’t have a problem with reviewers who say their recommendation is based upon the sound signature they prefer-that’s legit. But they hide that opinion behind a facade of “professionalism”. Their refusal to properly test, compare, and hold companies accountable is blatantly obvious. So, in my book, it’s getting near impossible to find meaningful reviews of products. It’s a shame.

    • @steviesteve750
      @steviesteve750 2 года назад

      @@NoThemeReviews There is nothing incorrect or wrong about the ASR train, the mistake is the errors interpreting the measurement data in respect of what is right for you to buy. If you use the measurement as a basis to extrapolate your preferences through comparison, you'll probably end up with a collection of hardware that you like. Fundamentally, it should be recognised that the human ear is a poor measurement instrument, and therefore pretty useless as a reference tool. Using the ASR data (or any data, bear in mind that ASR is generally one data source, not multiple testers comparing results and calculating overall uncertainty) as a reference to make a more informed choice of hardware is arguably the most pragmatic approach. I do agree that many of dazzled ASR disciples believe that good measurement = good sound, and that misses a huge variation in personal response curves. Even Sean Olive acknowledges that the Harman Curve makes some pretty big assumptions about individual physiology! I love my Grado headphones, but I won't try and convince anyone that they are the "truth", because it's easy to prove they're not! The majority of AST=R subscribers will tell you that all Grado phones sound rubbish, simply because they don't measure well, and missing the entire point if whether its fun the listen with them or not.
      However, I'm of the view that you can usually EQ your way to a good tonal response, but detail retrieval is fixed. On this basis, as I'm searching for a mid priced closed back, the X55 is ahead of the MT8 on my shipping list.

But, if you want neutral and natural presentation, especially in bass, then you should look at the OLLO S4X. The HD650/6xx is also a good option, though its mids are not neutral and rather pushed forward. If you just want something that’s affordable and gives a fair approximation of neutral sound, then look at the Monoprice HR5.
