Don't have a name for you Sorry the average mma fighter in ufc gets more than the average boxer. It’s only the huuuge boxing matches there is a big payday. If you pick someone none ranked from the ufc and someone none ranked in boxing the ufc fighter gets more. Also in boxing they are building your record they make you box cab drivers and when you are 14 and 0 and get a legitmate contender and lose you are out of boxing forever, something that would never happen in mma. Also they make a lot on sponsors and when they have a name. Gsp made something around 35 million alone on sponsors. Also you are a free agent in boxing thats why they can hold multiple titles in multiple organizations. Mma fighters on a pro level are signed to one promotion only. Imagine if you are a freelancer if you build a name multiple companies will contact you and give you multiple numbers to do some work compared to a guy who has a permanent job with a permanent income. You can’t really compare boxing with mma when it comes to the business.
I've heard that these fighters camps leading up to the fights can run them up into the 35,000-50,000 dollars. So if you're thinking 50,000 is nice money for one fight just think about that. It's super sad how much work these fighters put in and how little they get in return
Unfortunately as long as the fighters are willing to fight for "low" pay, guys like Dana White will keep taking advantage of them. White is being disingenuous by implying that the reason UFC does not reveal their fighters' pay is because they care about the fighters. He does not want to risk the bad publicity and have the fighters really scrutinize the deal they're getting.
I never understood why Nelson doesn't just go on a diet, lose some weight and kick everyone's ass due to his new found speed and agility. Maybe he could even drop down to 205. But I guess if this is how he chooses to do it... Can't tell him how to live his life.
+ThisYoungLibertine Bullshit. HALF of a UFC fighter's check goes to his trainers, agent, and gym. And outside of the octagon, the fighter is responsible for all of his medical expenses. Can you imagine how expensive a UFC fighter's medical and dental insurance is?
profd65 I do believe that the UFC does pay medical bills, but not sure. But you hit the nail on the head, when they got one sponsor then the fighters lose control. Dana has all the control, and that's how he likes it.
João Filipe da Costa EXACTLY my point all along!! How is it the PRES of the company can go from DEAD BROKE to 350 million dollars? ***** Pay the bottom fighters a living wage you cheap fuck. You are 100% correct.
I'm the Roy Nelson at my job. The thing is if I took my work seriously I would fucking obsess about it and blow it. I need the I don't give a fuck attitude, otherwise I get anxiety.
wow dana really cares about his Fighters by imagining a distant relative coming to an MMA guy's house looking for a loan the mma fighter probably wouldn't know how to deal with that situation what a great guy Dana is

Roy Nelson was knocking out Dana's best and he did it however the hell he wanted to. Roy wanted to be how he wanted to be. Dana White didnt like him because he wasnt a bitch. Dana is a piece of shit. No one can deny it.
If Roy Nelson had literally any conditioning he'd easily be one of the best p4p fighters in the world. You get that fool on the ground and he's gassed in 90 seconds.
He has conditioning. What you mean is if he had a aesthetically pleasing physique it would some how make him a better fighter. And he has a jujitsu black belt.
Roy's cardio isnt that bad.... However... Everything else old boy said was true. Roy says the dumbest shit, is literally uncoachable and is totally independent but he is the most powerful fight in MMA history and has the best chin ever. If he would have pulled a Jared cannonier he would have been the greatest middleweight of all time unfortunately he's the greatest underachiever in the history of the UFC
I'm fine with fighters making less for the fight purse if they can have there own sponsors like it used to be, but now they have the Reebok deal fighters should get a bigger piece of the pie
its 2021 and people STILL rag on the UFC for their paying of fighters...here it is: the UFC has HUNDREDS of signed fighters at one time, yes most get paid very little until they make their way up the ranks and hopefully into a PPV spot where they can get % points and thats the Jones/McGregor/Rousey money. Oh and most boxers get paid shit too. Its just the top guys that ppl like to compare those figures to.
You missed the point entirely. He's saying Roy Nelson doesn't look like an athlete, why would these sponsors want a guy that looks like that advertising their stuff?
I am so glad that Dana is just the talking face of the company while the Fertitto brothers are handling the real business because Dana has no clue about who's marketable! The UFC attracts a lot of NASCAR fans and Roy looks a lot like that particular fanbase, and that make him a likeable fighter and someone they can Identify with. Roy's look is just fine!
Ya know, I particularly tend to not give overweight people much slack.... but someone as decent as Roy Nelson would be worthy of sponsoring my product if I was a businessman.
You may like or dislike Dana White, I'm not that big of a fan, but he is right here. If Roy got into shape and buffed up... forget about it, with his talent, he'd be unstoppable for years. Hall of fame material, easy.
If the fighter's aren't telling what they are making then they are doing well. I agree with Dana on Roy Nelson. Roy, man why don't you just give the diet and training regime that most other fighters have a try? Just try it for about a year. That's about how long it would take to get yourself in good shape. Plus you would be much healthier. there's no down side to getting serious. Obviously you are serious when you get in the ring because you are one hell of a fighter. Just do it !!! Get rid of that gut dude!!
qynsar the thing with roy is a lot of his knock out power comes from the fact the his kinetic chain is concentrated in his stomach. it's like a free weight adding a shit ton of energy to his right hand. combine that with good foot work and you have one of the best rights in the world.
i never understood why americans are so sensitive about disclosing their salaries. i once asked a girl in NY how much does she make - and she almost slapped me . wtf ppl should share this so other ppl will know if the job is worth it .imho
+TheKoderius That is very rude. No-one likes other people to know what they're making to support their family and themselves. Of course you could get the person that's making a easy million and then you would be like "That's not fair and way too much money" then that relationship would be fucked because you would be sad that your former friend is making way more money than you. Also it's just personal. If you want to know how much a job pays then look online or ask the employer.....Don't ask random people how much money they make....
I think if your trying to make Roy more professional and a harder worker why is Dana using petty insults to put him down , Roy Nelson is good for the UFC he shows that all shapes and sizes have the ability to kick ass man ! Crazy
Dana you aint much to look at either, but you sure do spin like a politician, bullshit bullshit when your lips move, oh we cant pay them too much because they will go broke like Tyson ? wtf
Jaime Van Hassel you joking right, Dana is running the show, he could be out of shape as fuck, he don't need to look like a fighter to get sponsors. He is a snake, no question about it, you dont get to net worth of 300mil with being honest guy.
not one of my arguments were ad hominem. I never once attacked you personally. I simply said your math and english were wrong. Ad hominem would be something like "you're fat" or "it's because you're black" or something to that nature. if i came off as "i'm right you're wrong deal with it" then i apologize as that was not my intent. i could have definitely been more diplomatic about it, but it's hard to want to be diplomatic with someone who is already attacking someone else (in this case dana)
Fuck, everyone needs to realize that UFC IS A NEW COMPANY, they have only been around for 20 years now, when they started they were only paying their fighters few hundred to a thousand, now they are paying their fighters anywhere from 10k - 1mil+ (depending on their status). Just wait another 20 years and UFC will be paying their fighters a hell of a lot more. You seriously can't compare salaries of UFC Fighters to Boxers... MMA(UFC) = 20 Years Boxing = Over 100 Years Ofc top ranked boxers would get payed more... but soon they wont get payed much because it's a dying sport, so really.. UFC Fighters aren't getting fucked over.
Tank Hulkington When im comparing salaries between boxers and ufc fighters, yes. 20 years is new, the past 4-5 years is when UFC really started to break out, now its huge, another 20 years it will be even bigger.
Not to mention, boxing is an international sport. Whereas the UFC is just now stepping into international bouts (mainly in South America). EDIT: And, don't forget that most UFC fighters can fight twice to three times a year, whereas boxers will only fight once a year - or even once every two years.
Since then vikings have become a huge media thing and Roy Nelson would get all the attention today. He just happened to be a little bit before his time.
nobody needs to be concerned with fighter pay but fighters lol if they had a problem with pay don't work for the guy and Dana White doesn't disclose fighter pay cause it's not anyone's business what fighters get paid
Great comments Dana.. but thats the perfect thing about the UFC, I think 90% of the fighters would fight for free if their training and living bills were paid for. Money cant buy you immortality, the UFC can..
:) my point is the ufc is like the premiership now, and I would play in that on a Sunday for free! and when I said living bills I was talking about all u can eat buffets and free entry to titty bars)..
I totally agree. Once you start raising wages, then it's hard to scale back down. Before the UFC got popular, guys were basically fighting for free, or for peanuts anyway.
Really Dana, As a fighter Roy is a huge overachiever. Who would look at that guy and say to themselves, he's going to KO noguiera, Chiek Kongo etc... He is a good striker, everyone knows he is looking for that right overhand but he can consistently land the shot
So what if he has a mullet and a belly?? If he had no cardio and made appearances on Cops every week then there is an issue. His belly makes him unique and reminds me of some berserker viking or scary gladiator guy.
Wow I have heard some lie from Dana White before but this interview is top 5 there is no Olympic boxer who would ever leave boxing to try MMA and the lie that were money at
I believe Dana but what he doesn't say is main and co-main get a percentage of PPV buys. and to get the "incentives and bonuses" he make those fighters jump through hoops to get it.
Roy is not the issue here the issue is that none of the guys are payed well lol i will say i read an article where some guys WHO dana likes will get a bonus other than the set amount lol Chuck said he got a 225 thousand payout with a 1 mill bonus when he knocked out tito lol I also saw where certain guys an its public info yet some guys again that dana likes are worth millions an did really well. Now look up nick diaz who is an amazing fighter an never backed out of a fight an had a fight every 3 months since he was 17 an he is worth 800 grand now does that seem right>?
Dana White admits it all the time. he's always reminding the viewers and fighters that the UFC is bigger than any of the fighters. he also set up Rhonda Rousey with a fighter he knew would beat her, since she was already contemplating taking time off and possibly retiring with the belt. Just ask GSP, he eont let that happen.
B9King937 Most people hate their bosses. You build a business by pleasing your customers, not always your workers. Most workers are a dime a dozen. Some workers are very valuable and those are the only ones you have to compromise for.
sebastianzx6r What if every job got together and said "hey, let's all go down to minimum wage. that way, they'll be forced to work for us" is that right? Yeah, you can say "ill just go to an easier job" but those would be taken before you know it. So they need employment, they'll take anything.
Dana just casually shits all over Roy Nelson. I agree in a sense that he is a underachiever he could be so much better if he lost that belly however it is absolutely absurd to say noone would be interested in sponsoring him.
Its not a beauty pageant. That is not what Dana was saying. It is the sponsors that choose the fighters that they want to sponsor, not Dana. And he is right. If Big Country ( who I am a huge fan of, by the way ) trimmed the beard, and the waistline, and still fought the way he does, sponsors would be lining up . Beauty sells. VelasqueZ, Dos Santos, St. Pierre, all have great sponsors. Do you believe their image has nothing to do with that??
LOL i love how he brings up Ward making 1.6 million as his guarantee to help his argument when 1. that's 1.4 million more then A silva makes and 2. No one gives a fuck about Ward.
Dana has never been in the cage and yet he has more money then any of the UFC fighters ever have. Even fighters that made the brand. Dana didn’t even risk his own money. I really need richer friends..,
Ok so the UFC fighters on average make less than Boxers but they are still making some crazy amounts of money and i doubt you'll find one that's gonna complain too seriously about it, they are living their dream and getting paid a lot of money to do it, the media and fans are the only ones that care about comparing it to boxing
Fact is they sign a contract and if you don't like what's in it don't sign it and then bitch and moan about it. The ufc is VERY particular on getting them to understand EXACTLY what they're signing too. They give them NO AMMO, so if a fighter then comes out and starts bitching its completely their own fault. Period. People need to learn a few basic business subjects so they don't demonize people undeservingly. If it weren't for Dana white NO ONE would be getting paid and we wouldn't even HAVE the ufc.
"It's not about the money." How much was your cut from the sale of the UFC, Dana? I know, I know...maybe someday UNICEF will get into the fight game but until then you're the guys to see.
Danas usually smart with this kind of shit but i cant disagree more with him about roy as much as i can understand where hes coming from, whats roy supposed to do? Shave his heard and lose his gut??? Those are huge parts of his image, literally and metaphorically
It's definitely about the money. But I see a little of his point. Or I should say his justification. If they disclosed fighters pay, the only thing people will talk about is money. Then fighters will compete with each other - for pay, and then some fighters will not fight unless they get X or Y. And then the UFC will have competitors who will offer more - this and that, and we have MMA becoming boxing. Probably a little exaggerated but I see how he uses that as justification.
Secretly Dana wants that mullet Nelson has, don't lie Dana...

He throws peanut's out in the middle of that cage and has them wrestle for them
Wow I have heard some lie from Dana White before but this interview is top 5 there is no Olympic boxer who would ever leave boxing to try MMA and the lie that were money at
I believe Dana but what he doesn't say is main and co-main get a percentage of PPV buys. and to get the "incentives and bonuses" he make those fighters jump through hoops to get it.
if its not about the money what is it about ?
Why is it that so many fighters hate dana? It gets to the point that, you ever think YOUR the problem, instead of everyone else?
B9King937 Most people hate their bosses. You build a business by pleasing your customers, not always your workers. Most workers are a dime a dozen. Some workers are very valuable and those are the only ones you have to compromise for.
+B9King937 Funny thing is fighters know how much they'd make if they got to the UFC. No one is forcing them to go in there.
sebastianzx6r What if every job got together and said "hey, let's all go down to minimum wage. that way, they'll be forced to work for us" is that right? Yeah, you can say "ill just go to an easier job" but those would be taken before you know it. So they need employment, they'll take anything.
Yea but Dana is talking about sponsorships, not just UFC.
I would like to see Roy knock Dana out.
how fucking scary would a 'ripped' big country be
you guys really want to know why big name fighters earn little in UFC payouts compared to boxing?
They robbing these fighters. "It's not about the money?" WTF? Who fights for free?
the way that this really works is dana makes the money, and fighters spill the blood
Till today he don’t pay his UFC fighters enough
Roy Nelson should be on cans of 16oz Mickeys. Belly and all. That would suit me just fine.
Mickeys should heavily consider sponcering Roy Nelson.
Say what you want about Roy Nelson, but he is a fan favourite and fans pay the bills right?
Too many fighters in the ufc, it's oversaturated with mediocrity.
Big country has the ideal male physique there is no denying that
"It's not about the money." How much was your cut from the sale of the UFC, Dana? I know, I know...maybe someday UNICEF will get into the fight game but until then you're the guys to see.
Danas usually smart with this kind of shit but i cant disagree more with him about roy as much as i can understand where hes coming from, whats roy supposed to do? Shave his heard and lose his gut??? Those are huge parts of his image, literally and metaphorically
Did he mean to say Nelson was the ultimate overeater?
It's definitely about the money. But I see a little of his point. Or I should say his justification. If they disclosed fighters pay, the only thing people will talk about is money. Then fighters will compete with each other - for pay, and then some fighters will not fight unless they get X or Y. And then the UFC will have competitors who will offer more - this and that, and we have MMA becoming boxing. Probably a little exaggerated but I see how he uses that as justification.

DANA SHOOK
Fertitto Brothers... sounds like a bag of korn chips
"they get exposure through us! Why would we pay them the money we earn?! I'm not following - listen to this tangent..."
