    Lovely i wish i'd have done it years ago. I only visited GCR once back in 1992 when we had a weekend in Leicestershire and stayed in Melton Mowbury and Loughborough.

      It's a unique railway experience David and hope you can enjoy further visits sometime. Check out my other footplate videos on the GCR to see a variety of locos. Cheers, Brian.

    Many thanks & pleased that you & so many others have enjoyed watching it. Have to say that I never expected quite so many views (8000+) but as you quite rightly say, the GCR is a great railway!! Glad you enjoyed your Driver Experience on the 'Old Lady'...... Regards, Brian.

    Our last main line steam was in the 1988 Bicentennial when 3801 - famous leader of the 38 class visited Alice! Much as I love living here, it's sad to say that we are unlikely to see main line steam ever again……Hᴜɢʜ...ツ

      John, thank you so much for your kind comment. Although an amature, my intent was to make it as entertaining as possible & to receive such praise makes all the effort worthwhile. The fact that people are still viewing & enjoying it is satisfaction enough & gives me considerable pleasure to share. Best Regards, Brian.

    Each steam locomotive have a wheel arrangement. For example the American is a 4-4-0 , the Mongul is a 2-6-0 , the Big Boy is a 4-8-8-4 , the Challenger is a 4-6-6-4 ....

If you have enjoyed this one could I further suggest you might enjoy my latest upload featuring the GCR Stanier 8F (the RED one!) during it's albeit brief period in authentic weathered black livery..... check it out at, ruclips.net/video/x9ErxCmKdas/видео.html Cheers, Brian.

  • @AECEntertainment

    thankyou, wasnt it filmed at the SVR and why do some people keep it secret, shes a beautiful loco

  • @SYKAROST
    @SYKAROST  12 лет назад

    I have just been speaking to Alan & he has asked me to make it quite clear that far from being 'stoned' .... he was at the time suffering with a back injury. Any suggestion that someone in charge of a train might be 'intoxicated' or otherwise is a little unwise although I appreciate you meant no harm, regards, Brian.

    Interesting screw-operated reverser. Never saw a design like that on a US loco.
    Noticing a distinct noise once per revolution. Is that some oil pump?

    Interesting video... I used to trainspot on the GCR as it passed my backgarden, opposite the Stadium Estate, and used to catch a train from Central station, to Rothley station. ( 6d return) to spot the same trains there...... .... when it was a real live main line !.... (Before it was closed)... Some "editing" goofs....00:08 station clock shows 09:31. ( dep time is 10:00 as stated at 00:12) at 00:17 the station clock shows 14:27 and at 00;36 it shows 14:30 at 01;52 it shows 14:28..... Hmm ... ( ok I understand it was shot over two runs ! ! ! ) ...

    • @SYKAROST
      @SYKAROST  10 лет назад

      Thanks for pointing out my 'editing goofs' but the only goof was actually allowing the clock into shot as I had no control over the fact that it was running haywire on that day (if it bothers you maybe the GCR have the fact on record) but the trains left on time at 10 & 12. The video was shot & edited for entertainment which in the main it seems to have achieved. I have no objection to worthwhile criticism but resent it from someone who has a RUclips Channel but 'produces nothing' to which we can draw comparison. Have you contacted 'Ealing Studios' etc in respect of the lack of continuity in some of their old railway films that are so annoying??

  • @keithturner5369
    @keithturner5369 7 лет назад +1

    How come this was the 10am journey wwhen the station clock showed 2.30pm???

    • @SYKAROST
      @SYKAROST  7 лет назад

      Someone else three years ago went to great lengths to point out my 'editing goofs' so I will tell you the same. The clock was erratic on the day but departures were as stated but heavily edited over two runs. My biggest mistake obviously was to include the clock in shots but hey, no-one is perfect..... Hope you enjoyed the rest of video?

    This is the loco from oh doctor beeching, is it not?

  • @LutzDerLurch
    @LutzDerLurch 8 лет назад

    How is it seemingly all engines I see footage of from the footplate, seem to leak water and steam at various places constantly. Is that truely jus "how it is", or is it at least in part due to the ripe age of these machines?

    • @SYKAROST
      @SYKAROST  8 лет назад +2

      +LutzDerLurch In theory the joints etc should be steam tight but in practice it's not always possible. If you think these leaks are bad you should check out photo's/vids of steam locos in the final years prior to 1968 when you could barely see them for steam blowing from every joint & cylinder etc. Cheers Brian.

    • @steamandsmoke97
      @steamandsmoke97 7 лет назад +1

      All Engines leak a bit, its just the nature of the beast. At some points a tiny amount of leakage is needed to keep the packing material moist. Some leaks take up when the engine warms up and everything expands.

    Very good video skills on display, well done. I remember 46446 and 46447 new at Coventry. We lads thought them very modern at the time. I managed to get a footplate trip on ex S&D 2-8-0 No 88 (53808) over the same route, a real tick in the box experience. My video not up to your standard I fear. ruclips.net/video/2TBffoo8n60/видео.html

      Very kind of you Arthur & thanks. Yes, the Ivatt 2MT's were a nice little loco & did well on jobs they were built for. I have watched your vid & seems you had a great day. Have you got round to watching my latest on the 8F footplate? Thanks again for your kind comment, regards, Brian.

      Just watched and admired the 8F video. Waited for the 8F clank and was not disappointed. The shed scenes at the end, very atmospheric. Well done to the GC weathering department as well.SYKAROST

      Arthur Charles I thought you might enjoy it Arthur & yes, nice to see (& hear) an 8F on the minerals.The lad who you saw doing the weathering is Michael Sutton (who's YT Channel is 'Official Midlands Railway Channel') who also films locally on the Midland Main Line.Yes, he did a good job of keeping it looking as it should but it's probably red again now.... Cheers, Brian.

      @@AECEntertainment Wonderful to see that 46521 is still working and in great shape. During the last days of steam she was based at Penmaenpool shed on the Ruabon to Barmouth branch which closed in January 1965. As a young fireman I worked regularly on local trips between Dolgellau and Barmouth. Some years ago and quite by accident, I met up with her while on loan to the Llangollen Railway. It was all rather emotional as I stepped on the footplate after more than fifty years. I am now 82 and like 46521 still in good shape.
