It's Easier Than You Think To Sell Your Books

- With concentrated effort, a solid plan, and enough capital to do it. Selling your books is actually easier than you think, but to do so there's some sacrifices you have to consider. Namely:
Putting Money toward advertising, specifically with newsletters
And
Being willing to heavily discount your books.
Especially early on in your writing journey it's really important to focus on a few key things, why you're writing, how you want to get your book out, what the book is about and why people would care about it and how you want to portray that.
Packaging of your book is incredibly important. A bad cover, a bad description and a bad elevator pitch are going to be extremely detrimental to your ability to convince people it's worth their time.
Join me as I go into how I got to my first 1,000 sales and why even with that number, I still consider myself not to be a succesfull author, at least, not yet.

Fussy Librarian is a really great one! Affordable too! I got over 1000 downloads with that offer.
Fussy Librarian and Book Barbarian are pretty much always in my rotation. I wish Book Raid had more readership to make it more valuable because out of every single platform it provides the best feedback + ease of use. Bookbub is pretty easy to use, too, but bookraid gives you per-site click numbers which is awesome.
Dude you never fail to inspire. This videos really making me think again about self publishing. I just. Too many things to say but thank you sir. And I’ve always loved that question about what you’d say in your elevator pitch. That gets a new novelist to the heart of things immediately
You are far far too kind. I appreciate your heartfelt words and can't wait to see where you go with your writing.
Nice video! Haven't done a newsletter before, but are sure going to try them out after this. Thx for the tip!
They are incredibly helpful. I have another video that goes in more detail about which ones I've found work best but David Gaughan website linked in the description is really really helpful and I highly recommend it.
Perfect! I will check the video you have made about it. Just found you a couple of weeks ago, so haven't had the time to watch all your content, yet :)@@juststartwriting
Another thing to consider when you hear people’s sales numbers is time frame. My book has been out 14 years, so in total sales it does sound pretty impressive
A fantastic point. For example mine was over the course of just over 4 years (but the majority in the last 2)
I never considered such things as newsletters, seems a tad obvious afterwards, but so easy to overlook.
Definitely check out David Gaughran for more info on Newsletters: davidgaughran.com/best-promo-sites-books/
While I wouldn't take any newsletter list as infallible, his is very well reasoned.
Nice. Subbed
Have you done any conventions? That is where most of our sales have come from so far. But we did our marketing totally backwards and are trying to play catch up now.
I'm planning on doing my first soon. I've wanted to for a long time. Lately I've been mostly going to them, buying other authors books, and interviewing them.
@@juststartwriting they have been really fun for us. We met our second cover artist across the isle from us at our first one. We also had low cost canvas tote bags made up with our symbol (my profile pic) as gifts for anyone who bought books. Even if they showed us that they downloaded the book we gave them a free bag. We made book sales just because people were already juggling to many purchases and wanted a good bag.
@@juststartwriting we also tried to be a good neighbor. We had a corner booth so we asked everyone who came by what type of books they enjoyed and if ours wasn’t something they would like we pointed them to another author that was up there ally. My sister spent a good part of the first morning checking out all the other authors booths. After the first day more of the other authors were returning the favor.
I've made good friends with a few authors already just from visiting them at multiple conventions. It seems like a great community and one I'm excited to join. Already getting prepared for it and can't wait! Any suggestions for conventions you've really enjoyed?@@morganrrhaze
@@juststartwriting Fan Fusion in Phoenix, Arizona was the biggest we did. They had a great authors ally setup. And were really inexpensive for what we got. All the others we have done were a fraction of the size so they didn’t have the authors together. But they are all good one way or the other. Just make sure you have at least one other person to help you out at your booth.
So youre saying I need to eat a chili bean on the front of a newsletter?

Nice timings on the content👍🏾✨️subbed
Thank you! And welcome!
