  • | Both 'Ramadan Kareem' and 'Ramadan Mubarak' are common expressions used during the month of Ramadan. Both mean “have a blessed or generous Ramadan”. Did you know that the appropriate response to 'Ramadan Kareem' is 'Allahu Akram'? It means “God is much more generous”. |
Is incredible how Kareem is the same word in french for Lent time "carême" just wrote with a C. In spanish we call it "cuaresma" as it comes from french and not english language roots. And the meaning is beautiful as generous.
"Lent" comes from "lencten" an old wording from Dutch (Netherlands - Holland) language meaning "Spring time". As well as old german "Lenz".
Both times Lent and Ramadan intersect into a point in the middle of the Lent time. Muslim people (Islamic believers) are very respectful of Jesus Christ teachings, as they have it writted in the Quoran (or Coran) as a respected Prophet.
Muslims (Islam religion) is a religion that looks for Peace, as it was installed to unite the tribes near the Meca (or Makkah).
As many religions, including the one I follow and I was born "Catholicism" have unfortunatelly fanatics that hurt our communities.
My muslim friends have been very sad to respect all religions and see how some people take their teachings to hurt others. As a Catholic I understand it, as in Catholicism and Christianity we have suffered since the Middle Ages from fanatics that hurted millions of people.
Ramadán is a time of reflection, pretty similar to the Lent time. Just they don't eat in the day, just in the night to respect the time and they have to offer food for the poor ones, there are many places that open and give for free food in the night to help them to cope with this time of reflection.
As a catholic I feel blessed to have crossed in my path so many amazing muslim friends and to have danced in a weeding for a muslim and Saudi Arabia friend. It has been an honour they trusted me and taught me about their beautiful religion. I understand it must be hard to listen to foreign languages, myself I was very scared to listen people speaking in english until I was older than 20 years old for all the discrimination that mexicans we go throught, as well as mexicans deaths in USA soil and how some of us are kicked and insulted every day despite following the rules, and even insulted by USA tourists in our own country. I know is hard, specially if you had past experiences with people that insulted you, but please never lose your capacity to seek the truth and to see the good in others.
    With love from México,
    Ely
