Criminals are not afraid of jail. Have we tried reaching kids who are at risk of becoming criminals due to a dysfunctional home environment? How about we get those young kids into Boy Scout and summer sports programs? Have we tried that?
The conservative mentality is to build more prisons. That's why we have more prisoners per capita than any country in the world. The land of the free is a land of prisons. What if we just spent more money on preventing children from growing up to be criminals?
And for the record the crime rate per capita in LA peaked a 32 per 100K in the 90's. It was 8.7 in 2023. So a ton of progress has already been made regarding crime.

This is insane, he assumed his car was being towed not realizing he was being robbed. Had he only walked towards his car 10 minutes later, he would be without a catalytic converter but still very much alive.

Downtown LA was improving10-15 years ago with a lot of investment in retail, upscale housing and hotels. Then Wokeness took over, and it has turned ugly. It's dangerous everywhere at night, entire city blocks are boarded up, the old Skid Row has tripled in size, and the pro-criminal DA is the same guy who helped destroy SF when he was their DA. You’ll find a City-Data bar chart showing in 2014, as Wokeness set in, LA’s violent rate began rising above the national average, and the gap has widened every year since then. Scroll down and you’ll see this is also true for property crime, but the rate of increase is less extreme.

One of the things I learned in life is material things can be replaced but never your life. I once went through the same experience where I saw somebody breaking into my car but instead of confronting them I just let them I recorded them with my smartphone and then went to the police station and reported. I'm still alive my car was replaced.
