Historically Speaking, It's not know the exact date when the prophet PBUH was born. For sure he was born on Monday, but we don't know which that Monday was. It's said 12, 18, Sha'ban or Ramadan. However, it's not know for certain. Therefore, those who celebrate in Mawlid are not aligned with the prophet's guidance . Moreover, there are many reasons that they are not aligned with the prophet's guidance which are as the following : 1) *It's not known when the prophet was born (Historically). Scholars of Islam have been disputing about the exact date* ( As it's mentioned by Hafiz Ibn Kathir). 2) *Throughout the prophet's life, It's not been known by (Hadiths and Sira) Even by one narration that the prophet said " this is my birthday, come to celebrate with me " Ever* 3)* Add to the prophet his companions! (Sahaba) It's not been known during their lives that they did celebrating for the prophet's birthday ever*. 4) the followers of companions (Tabi'een) had never done that ever! Also, the major scholars of Islam ( Abu Hanifah, Malik, Al shafi'i, Ibn Hanbal) had never done that or they said it's better to celebrate ! EVER! 5) The prophet Peac be upon him said in Sahih Muslim (( it was the duty of every Prophet that has gone before me to guide his followers to what he knew was good for them and warn them against what he knew was bad for them; but this Umma of yours has its days of peace and (security) in the beginning of its career, and in the last phase of its existence it will be afflicted with trials and with things disagreeable to you)) Did the prophet guide us to celebrate for his birthday? If you said No, it means this thing is not good. 6) For certainty and historically speaking and by all Islamic scholars the prophet Peace be up hon hin died in 12 / 3 Hijri. In other words, it seems those who celebrate are celebrating for his death walleythubillah .

i 'll tell you what.... this topic in indonesia is a very hot topic each year..... lol and each year there would be debate everywhere online on social media... and as the biggest muslim country in the world people would came up with many dalil for supporting mawlid.. i mean MANY... but also there are people who refuted them... for people who really want to see the truth its clear that the people that support mawlid came up with dalils which is weak against those who refuted them.. i used to agree on mawlid but not anymore... hence these arguments from uk brothers for supporting mawlid is nothing new... anyway for people who support mawlid.. try to learn the origins of mawlid... the truth is the original mawlid people, they believed that prophet Muhammad PBUH came and joined their gatherings of mawlid which is very2 bhatil... The brother Imam Asim Hussain lives pretty close to me. Literally like minutes away around Oak Lane in Bradford. His followers tend to call the Pathaans and Bengalis around here as "Wobblers" which makes no sense really. Just because they don't celebrate the Prophets birthday with Xmas lights adorning their homes they start throwing labels around as if their sole intention is to insult anyone who doesn't do as they do. I was always of the belief that celebrating birthdays was haraam as is anything that has its roots in Paganism. Acknowledging a birthday is one thing but celebrating is another. You can't even sit down and have a civilised conversation about the subject with them without them trying to insult you albeit poorly. Just do, live and pray as the Prophet SAW did and leave it at that. Allow the Xmas light song and dance innovations. Too much arguing and not enough open hearts and minds seeking truth.
