I have got to be completely honest about the review: this might be the greatest Darth Vader figure I have ever seen, and quite possibly the best Star Wars figure I have ever seen. It has the best detailing and cleanest finish more than anything else I have found online or in a RUclips review, and the expressiveness you get when you equip some of the hands on him makes him look super imposing. One thing that has also bugged me about previous figures and film appearances of Vader based on his A New Hope and Rogue One variants is how the cloth next to his chest piece goes over his shoulder guard, which is still how he appears in the movie this figure is based on, and I am so glad they put the cloth under his chest piece on this figure because I always thought that design choice can be stupid. There is one nitpick I have with this figure which is that you can't remove his helmet to show his face, but seeing as how that idea was executed on previous figures, it's best that he doesn't do it here since it leaves figures with either a rubber helmet with weird proportions, or it makes the helmet too big to compensate for a removable helmet feature. I don't need a removable helmet, but if this figure had it, I would practically call it my holy grail of Star Wars figures. Other than that, this Vader figure deserves an absolute 10/10.
I agree he is grail status for me too. The ultimate Vader and a centrepiece in my display!
The ultimate Darth Vader will be the new Obi-Wan one coming out next year!
Its a testament to the design of the character Darth Vader...... you don't even have to put him in a pose. Just stand him straight up and down and he still looks absolutely intimidating AF. Figure looks absolutely spot on! Great review!!!

Hey willthebeast, I'd wait for the kenobi version. It should come updated and/ or added accessories. It may also come with a cracked vader helmet sculpt as a deluxe version addition. So definitely hold out for the kenobi version
This must’ve cost quite a penny! I remember when I bought mine after Sideshow sold out and it took an arm and a leg to get it! Hope you got extra wrist pegs cause they’re a pain to dig out!

@@JustinsCollection I just saw a photo of HT Vader from the Kenobi series. Not gonna lie he looks very similar to the Rogue One version. Hopefully he’ll be much different.
This was the second Hot Toy I ever bought when I started collecting them in 2016. I preordered it the minute it went up and I’ve been loving it ever since!

I have two, one in the display cabinet and one out for posing, the one out in the elements has peeled on me and honestly, i just started peeling it off completely, still looks good, modded it to take out the girdle foam in the midsection which resulted in better torso articulation and got the Kotobukiya M.S.G. LED Swords in the lightsaber hilt, looks and works beautifully! I pose him ALL the time! Love your reviews by the way!

Great review, Justin! I got this figure at release as well and it’s still one of my favorite 1/6 scale figures ever made. I even opted to pick up the saber arm from the two-pack, just incase it could be fitted to this version.

Love this version of Vader sucks that I missed it when it came out, but I’m definitely gonna try to get the new kenobi one cause it looks really similar to this design of his suit

Really? Don't CHOKE on your asperations?? Disney is just lucky they added that scene with the hallway at the end, and it wasn't nearly enough to save that boring movie. IMO.
@@TheHoaxShow Personally, I thought it was a fresh take on Star Wars. We always follow the main heros, but no one ever talks about the underdogs who get the heros to the points where they can save the day.

As you said, everyone has their personal preference and I know it’s a super nitpick but as for me I kinda like how the tunic overlaps his armor. Don’t get me wrong Vader’s suit is absolutely perfect (always will be) but how he appeared in A new hope will forever be make favorite look for him. Great review always.
You can do that here too, just take the armour off and slide it under the tunic!

I never really noticed the difference of the eyes in the Empire Vader, but now that you point it out I much prefer the Rogue One Vader eyes. Great review. Miss your streams btw!

Justin, your reviews are all excellent and very helpful for a collector to make decisions on which items to get. May I suggest you wear cotton gloves, like the ones the watch dealers wear, to handle your figures, so to avoid leaving oils and stains on the fabrics which will deteriorate them faster.

Those backdrop style displays like the Death Star were also included with DareDevil and Punisher from the Netflix show, those were street designs I believe.

Great review... Sadly, I missed out on this Vader, however, I did grab the Vader/Tarkin 2-pack. I'd love to see a comparison of this Vader vs. that Vader. Darth Vader is one of my all-time favorite characters, so I have been keeping my eyes open for a decent deal on this one because I'd happily have both even if they're similar. As it stands, I have the original New Hope version, the 2-pack version, and the 40th anniversary version. I'm eager for a Return of the Jedi version someday and I'm pretty sure that we'll see a Kenobi version sooner than later. I hope that the Kenobi version comes with battle damage-- especially that helmet damage.
Damn! That 2 pack Vader is still one of the best ever made!
With the 40th anniversary of ROTJ next year I’m hoping hot toys release a 1/6 scale ROTJ Darth Vader with removable helmet which would go great with the ROTJ Luke, hopefully they will do this

I wish I was collecting 1/6th scale when this came out. I just have the 40th Empire and SS Return Vader's in 1/6th scales. My favorite would be Empire only because I do not have this one. I hope that the Kenobi version of Vader is similar to this release. Great review.

I had both the Rogue One and ESB Vader. Sold my Rogue One as the ESB is easily the better one in my opinion. The removable back helmet and the huge great display base plus it just looks better.
Totally fair, we all love what we love! For me the actual figure itself is superior here. I could give or take the base and the helmet coming off
I really want this! It would be a lie if I said I am star wars fan. I love star wars but havent even watched all the movies yet so I cant say Im a fan but im a huge fan of 80s stuff and this guy would fit in great in my 80s themed room

I've never experienced a hot toys darth vader but I will say my favorite vader is the ROTJ version from sideshow ROTJ vader also had my favorite helmet/mask mold for him

The figure is definitely well detailed and is overall incredible, my only problem is that his under robes aren’t over his armor like in the movie which was meant to resemble A New Hope Darth Vader.

Hey justin quick question. I know you dont treat your pleather figures with anything but how many issues have you had with pleather figures flaking. Like you have super old figures, have you had lots of figures flake or just a few. I know some figures are notorious for flaking so could be inferior pleather process ? All info is appreciated. Thank you.
Nick Fury from Avengers 1, Catwoman TDKR 1.0, DX07 Boots, DX IIndiana Jones belts, AOU Black Widow and Winter Soldier are unfortunately all flaking.

I've always preferred the new hope/rogue one Vader. The eye's are better. The empire and Jedi eyes look kinda of doe eyed and sad almost cute. There is less shine on the helmet and I prefer the smaller triangle vent under his chin. In the other versions it became a bigger vent.

Does Hot Toys use the same kind of Peg system for these kind of hands? You know where one side goes into the wrist and the other side goes into the forearm. With long gloved hands like this like I said do they use the same system or is each gloved hand have individual pegs in them like Sideshow does?

I paused the video to see the back of the box, and i noticed the year 2016... Been 6 years in the box, how can it occured to you that the leather suit still good? I bought the ESRB Vader (not the 40th anniversary), and the leather peels off everytime I posed it, although it was produced in 2018. I keep restraining myself to buy such figures with 70% of pleather usage because of this
Lol it was not in the box for 6 years. It was in my display. I put it back in the box for the unboxing segment
Hey Justin. Great vid. One small thing I noticed is that this vader isn’t totally accurate to rogue one. The two pieces of cloth that sit on the sides of his abdomen are sitting underneath the black and silver chest plate. They really should be sitting above the chest plate. Plus it makes him look more like how he does in a new hope. I’ve heard of others trying to modify there’s so it’s accurate. Not sure if you’d want to do the same but I thought I’d point it out. I really doubt that's rogue one because his jacket isn't over the silver shoulder bit like the new hope. They both had the jacket on top of the silver shoulder part

You’re right about the ESB helmet. The eyes are wrong. And the mouth grill is too steep for the feature.
The rogue one Vader has a more accurately shaped face mask which should be the same as all OT Vaders minus minor details like the enlarged chin vent and color details.

The alternating panels actually don't have as much to do with technology or detail (hell, they had 65mm before then) as plain old good photography and understanding the subject and shape language. A different kind of clarity, a less literal one. Look at Revenge of the Sith for what a freaking nightmare it was to photograph nothing but glossy black facets where the light will be a mess of either edge highlights with no volume, or blinding flat areas that overwhelm the rest of the surfaces. Not to mention the extra time and complexity for the lighting.Talk about unlearning what they had learned!
Great figure, and very in keeping with the Rogue One ethos of not being literally as it was, but more as you remembered it. The smaller chin grille is so much better! Thanks for the review.
P.S. Not sure what you meant by "the codpiece I'm fairly certain was new to Rogue One"?

Very good figure however it's pretty inaccurate to rouge one and a new hope cause the black fabric that's beside his button pad is supposed to go over the top armour piece

Cool figure. I definitely perfer the Star Wars one, I still call episode 4 that, better. Only thing I don't like about that Darth Vader is all the gimmicks with the voice box so we can say lines from the movie and the breathing I never used to light up effects so I can live without those. But definitely the voice box limits some of its posability. But I just love the sculpt and overall figure. And I was able to fix the chest box when I called him it was really high but all I did was take off the mantle adjusted the straps and now it hangs right in the middle of his body. I know this is an older review so there is a Darth Vader coming up for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show and it kind of pisses me off so that means they have made every single Darth Vader except the Revenge of the Sith one which is by far my favorite Darth Vader. Every chance I get to throw that out there the hot toys I have. He deserves to be made I think we waited long enough for him in many ways I think he'd be the most difficult. Darth Vader to put together because of the symmetrical helmet the mantle isn't very different from that of Return of the Jedis it's just the Chrome and black are painted in different spots like the shoulder pieces on the Return of the Jedi Darth Vader are while the Revenge of the Sith Darth Vader they're Chrome and they do move up and down and also his chest box is connected to the suit its not held on by straps. But other than those couple things I think the helmet would be the most difficult to get accurate but the rest of the costume is pretty close to that of a new hope just cleaner because he's just been made. Right now he's my Most Wanted figure and I will piss and moan and whine about it put my two cents in about it everywhere that talks about hot toys Darth Vader's LOL and hopefully they'll get the hint
