- A highly dramatic (and effective) theatrical trailer for the 1971 film "The Trojan Woman", based on the play by Euripides and directed by Michael Cacoyannis. Katharine Hepburn, Vanessa Redgrave, Genevieve Bujold, Irene Papas, Patrick Magee and Brian Blessed star.
I'm just reading Brian Blessed's autobiography where he talks about making this film with Hepburn et al. It raised some curiosity about the film so here I am.

Irene playes Helen, with Genevieve Bujold as Cassandra, Katherine Hepburn as Hecuba and Vannessa Redgraves as Andromache. What a great cast!

R.I.P. Katharine Hepburn And R.I.P. Irene Papas. Both of them nailed their roles in this movie.
One of my favourite films of all time (but then, I'm partial to Greek tragedy anyway!). An absolutely heartrending performance.
Can't wait to watch. Greek tragedy runs in my soul.

I understand that some people may not liked the film, the roles performance or even the entire production. After all, it 's about personal taste. However, I feel sorry for all those who remain deaf to the message that Euripides' play shouts out for nearly twenty-five centuries. Mankind has got to realize the vanity of war, of all wars. There 's no patriotic or holy purpose in it, or some kind of a must-be-paid debt to the country. There 's only desperation, unhappiness, misery and death. Either you find yourself among the winners or among the losers. The sooner we become aware of this sad fact, the better for our common future upon this earth.

OMG I knew Irene Papas sounded familiar, but when I saw her I knew!
She played Katharine of Argon in Anne of the Thousand Days. While Genevieve Bujold played Anne Boleyn. (Her best role in my opinion.)
Funny that they were in another movie together... with the faintest relation of like over powering and stuff. I've never seen this movie though.

As Helen, I would only put Rossana Podesta beside her. The rest (Kruger, Dayne, Paly, Guillory and the others) would badly desire to look like her. She defined the classic greek female beauty of ancient times. And I 'm not a nationalist. Actually, I 'm an anarchist, and an atheist, too.

Saw this in cinema on its original release, I thought "It's basically a bunch of women yelling plus King of the Birdmen".
My opinion hasn't changed.
It's all dialogue and one song. No action. The song and costumes were nice though.
