I appreciate your approach to teaching.. To my understanding this just proves how much we need an edge as investors because playing the market like everyone else just isn’t good enough, we just need to hold onto our hopes and wait to see how things turn out because market movements are almost always unpredictable. In my portfolio, I'm noticing more red than green.

The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.

As someone who has lived here for almost a year, this video fails to list many of the negatives of living in Albania. First, lack of infrastructure. Albania has no rail network and only one airport. It's either buses or cars. Talking about buses, there are no bus stations, even in the capital. Busses gather either in parking lots are on certain streets. Schedules are erratic and change at a moment's notice as well. Oh and good luck finding schedules.
And don't trust the travel times either. I took what was supposed to be a 2 1/2 hour bus ride from Vlore to Sarande and it was like riding the local train in the NYC subway, it took over 4 hours because of all the stops along the way.....
True, Albania's bureaucracy may be less complicated than other places, but it's no picnic and not as easy as you claim here either.
In addition for all you foodies, Albanian restaurants still allow smoking indoors as well, if that doesn't bother you, fair play, but it should be mentioned.
As far as real estate, sure you can find some decent places, but the building codes are lax and the great deals aren't as great as they were even 2-3 years ago. Oh, and you know that beautiful apartment with the sea view?
There's nothing stopping a developer from building right in front of your building blocking that view as well. I see it all the time! You may hear this or that about there can only be so many floors built etc. But, Developers break those rules so much, you have to wonder if those building codes are urban myths...
The place may be cheaper than "Portugal" if you like to follow the digital nomad herd, but there are plenty of trade offs as well. If you decide to settle in a town like Vlore, or Sarande, these places, especially Sarande shut down outside of peak season.
Here in Sarande, about 75% of the restaurants, cafes etc. are already shut down. So forget about "night life" and even though Corfu is a 30 minute ferry ride away and has an international airport, there is only one ferry to and from Sarande in the off-season. And those flights are limited as well in the off season, so good luck making the 5 hour trek up to Tirana!
I hear plenty of people and see plenty of videos talking about how Albania is this undiscovered gem, the next Portugal or Croatia, etc. But, the funny thing is most of those people don't come back after their "fantastic stay" in the place. You never see a "Saranda, part 2 video, why we came back!....There's got to be a few reasons for that, don't you think?

Currently, Portugal's health system is under great turmoil since what maybe might be considered the end of an Era for the health workers in search for better conditions. This is the biggest stand-off of these sector workers. Some say it is not the best time to be ill. Let's hope things will get better after great changes are being taken place. It always will... something will...

      @traveleconomics  11 месяцев назад +4

Anthony Bourdain had great shows indeed. Regarding health workers in Portugal (and everywhere else apart from top income countries in the EU) the situation is pretty delicate indeed. It is hard for a nurse from Portugal, or Romania, or Greece, etc to stay in their country when the demand for nurses is so high in higher paying countries. In the case of Portugal as you probably know the problem is more acute as the salaries are lower but the cost of living at the moment is exactly the same as in Germany or the Netherlands.

Albania has a lot of pluses when it comes to cost of living, ease of doing business, and Americans can stay for a year. But I still prefer Portugal due to the fact that Albania is racist & backwards. It may be great for white expats, but Albania has some serious growing up to do, especially when their citizens often take it upon themselves to yell the N-word at black travelers going about their business and spending money in that country. So I say you can keep Albania.

@@traveleconomicsthanks for this video. Regarding safety…My Albanian neighbor cautioned me with a saying “there are no forests without pigs!” Here’s my personal experience regarding safety. The flat I bought in a new building located in supposed to be one of the safest neighborhoods in Tirana was burglarized during lunch time! My neighbors used to insist how safe our neighborhood is, Since this incident several neighbors including myself have installed security cameras. Roads are not the safest for pedestrians & cyclists. Majority of drivers in Albania drive like kamikazi maniacs without regard for peoples’ lives. I also slipped & fell hard from one of the restaurants waxed marble stairs which do not have safety grips (so many of the stairs here are marble or faux marble, they are often slippery & have no safety grips). More than 50% of elevators in the country are unsafe! Approximately only 10% of elevators in Albania are properly licensed. One of my friend’s locked bicycle was stolen right in front of his window. The lists goes on. I would caution not to promote this country or any country as ‘safer’ as it encourages people to let their guards down. Best to encourage everyone to always be aware of their surroundings & practice safety precautions wherever they maybe.

How a socienty treats minorities is a good way to measure this, like the situation of LGBT people. How religious are people - the less, the better.
And don't forget the language. How difficult is it to learn? I don't think that Portuguese is particularly easy, and I know nothing about the Albanian language.
Some information about these factors would have been beneficial.
The Mediterranean sea is probably a lot warmer than the Atlantic ocean. This is a win for Albania - or Montenegro or Greece, for that matter.

Roads were compared by an international agency in that Portugal was away better RANKED than US.
Even the best Hamburger house in the world it's in Portugal. Best Library in the world... so many more...
Albania was am not sure now the poorest country in Europe. Be careful in compare USA to Portugal as you may lose. The only difference better in US it's higher salaries and jobs opportunities-- the rest US loses in most aspects.

Largely agree, but the US has an easier driving experience (consistently straighter, wider roads and parking spaces), more opportunity on many levels, less bureaucracy, etc, etc. Portugal can’t win in comparison, they are simply different. 🍎 and 🍊.

It's puzzling to me as an Albanian to see this video. Never been to Portugal but read a lot about it. Portugal once a powerful nation since the middle ages to say the least which colonized vast lands around the world and after WWII was part of what's known as the West to be compared with Albania which became a country in 1912 and was a communist state for 45 years after WWII. It seems politicians and economists in Portugal past and present must have done improper job in making Portuguese people lives better.

    • @traveleconomics

The economy and living conditions are cyclical. Albania is in its best moment to over a century, no dictatorship, no pyramid schemes. Portugal had its glory as an empire, then became impoverished. Portugal was a top place 10 years ago, now maybe it is Albania's turn.

We are a SECULAR country, where various religions live and co-exist in peace. we identify as this or that but the majority of population does not really practice any religion at all. We are tolerant to all religions and even to those who don't believe in any religion. We just don't care. Religion it is not and has never been the defining character of our society. People don't need to be so negative. But Portugal is more than Lissabon. You stil can Cheaper rent in other cities. And Portugal has the Azores island. The rent there is very cheap. Albania is close to more countries. You can move to monte negro. Or take the ferry to Italy. Thanks for the video.

yes we do, and no we are not an Islamic country smarty pants (if you don't know s.th better be quiet), we are a SECULAR country, with three religions co-existing in perfect harmony. Religion has never been an issue or sth we identify with. We are Albanians, and religion is a private matter between you and God, nbd cares in what you believe or if you believe at all. Having almost half of the population Christian + atheists, also most of those who identify as muslyms in Albania are largely non practicant and eat porc and drink alcohol. you can find in Albania a blend of Italian, Greek, Turkish, Mediterranen and Authentic Albanian cuisine. Popular meats used are poultry, porc, lamb and beef.
