If Elvis had come to UK, believe me, there would be loads of homegrown Artists vying to do just that with him.
Elvis's recorded a version of the song with its original lyrics on January 18, 1957, but this version would not be released until 1983. Both Elvis' manager and record company had reservations about the suggestive lyrics. Elvis did not give up on the song. He continued to play with it during his spare time on the set of "Loving You," finally rewriting the lyrics that he felt were holding the song captive, changing "One night of sin is what I'm now paying for" into "One night with you is what I'm now praying for."
On February 23, 1957, at Radio Recorders in Los Angeles, he showed up with his new lyrics, feeling sure they would meet his label's approval. It was issued as a single in October 1958 and peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's singles chart.

These two "sit-down" concerts filmed with Elvis' original band for the TV special are absolutely magnificent performances. Getting to see jam sessions with the guys who were there with Elvis from the beginning was magical. It was a shame that the actual TV show could only use bits and pieces of these shows, but thankfully now the full performances have been available for quite a few years so everyone can see the magic that only those lucky audience members experienced.

This song was originally titled 'One night of sin' but the use of the word 'Sin' was considered too risky back in 1957 and consequently unreleased.

My Mom had the 45 record of this. The original title was One Night of Sin. Elvis changed the title & the lyrics as the original was deemed to vulgar to get radio play.

I love Elvis Presley in this show he made black leather look ,,,Black Velvet. He was such a natural person he loved singing a made you feel the music. I can see why his nickname was tigerman in karate. Also I heard his other nickname was crazy.
It was the ultimate jam session with a few guys and their guitars. What interaction with his audience. Priceless! A little bit of trivia; Elvis smoked cigars and cigarettes; giving his pipes that little bit of gravel. Still amazing!

You still need to find the live version of Are you Lonesome Tonight, "Not necessarily to do a reaction to, but just to watch for yourself. I guarantee you will laugh right along with Elvis. He laughed all the way through the song as a man down front took off his hair piece and is waving it back and forth.Elvis also couldn't get over the one backup singer that just went on as though nothing happened. This just made Elvis laugh that much more.😄😄😄😄😄

@@johngibsonmusica beatthat version where he is laughing is from the midnight sh high sopra oow 8/26/69 at the International hotel. And when Elvis starts laughing the soprano singer didnt miss a beat. And the woman doing the soprano was Cissy Houston who was Whitney Houston's mother

Great reaction John to a song from the 1950's that he contined singing here and in the 1970's while totally ignoring so many of his hits from that period and from the 1960's - an eternal puzzle to Elvis fans but he never followed the accepted normal career.
