What do you think of Jim Dunlop Billy Gibbons 7-38 Electric Guitar Strings? Too Thin and Weedy or Awesome!?

I've been using these strings for over a year now, and once you adjust your picking attack with less force that's required, they are astounding.

11 for the G is wild. I barely like 11 for my high E. I'd be afraid of snapping those like a spider web.

They're certainly different! I was amazed they stay in tune pretty well and intonate ok on a les paul scale length. Loose feeling in a good way. I so far haven't snapped any. They seem well made. Keep rockin' 🤘🎸

@appetiteforguitar You too! Thanks for the string demo. I didn't even know 7s were a thing.

Yeah well. I play bass now and I like the heavier guage EP Slinkys. When I played guitar i really liked the Slunky Cobalt Hybrids with the high E at .09. On guitar I really liked lower guage on the G B and E strings and heavier on the E A and B strings.

Nice, sounds like a cool mix. I play bass too - I always found there's high demand in bands as there are loads of guitarists for hire... a lot less people play bass - makes you a valuable band member. I've been thinking about doing bass related stuff. I recently got a nice Yamaha which I might feature on the channel. Keep rockin' 🎸🤘

@@appetiteforguitar Look man. Its getting harder and harder too to find rock bassists. I am not anything close to funk. I like playing with a pick definately for the clarity it allows. So much you can do on bass and even experiment with to make a song unique. For example covering songs playing guitar well the riffs and solos everyone knows. Playing in a cover band or tribute band you can experiment to add a little more or less pertaining to ghost notes. No one ever pays attention to bass anyway. If you compose your own songs then take advantage of the bass you are rythem. You can build up, use walk ups or walk downs as long as it follows theory. Roots, thirds, fourths, fifth and Octaves you can play on to add so much to the guitars riffs as long as you are in time with the drummer and in tune with the guitar/guitars you can stand out.

@@daveweed2765 Bass is fun... I hear you regarding roots, octaves et al. It really adds a lot. No one notices that much... until it's gone from the mix. Then everyone's like ohh the song sounds a bit sh*t now lol. Massively underrated part of the band. Metallica realised it and finally pushed a bassist to the forefront more. Live Trujillo is killer. If you're bored, here's an old music video of one of my rock bands when I was on bass and you can really hear the bass well - I filmed it, so I'm not in it much until the very end but ahh... makes me want to join up again. Bass rules 😅! ruclips.net/video/aSBMpIOU7E0/видео.htmlsi=qNErva5ry5_Y0BFO

Love my .007s - won't have anything heavier in the house (unless they aare nylon) - only issue is that I sometimes bend too far - oops :D :D :D

Can you really compare decent quality dunlop strings with the very cheapest harley benton strings?

Thanks for watching! The Harley Benton 9 Gauge are what I normally use. I play a lot of guitars so it's great to have some cheap that are good quality. They punch well above they're weight. This video is also less about the brand and more about the gauge - 7 predominantly... the thickness of tone, easy of bending etc and whether they're even worth considering vs a more 'normal' gauge. The HB's are worth a try too though as they are nice for low cost. Keep rockin' 🤘🎸
