So common for hardware to have special shapes and sizes to force you to buy their licensed hardware or parts.
Corsair is a (probably not great) example - they have weird shapes and sizes for Ctrl Alt etc so a set of keycaps outside of their own don't fit completely.
Fender is another one, you can't stick a MIM Strat body with a MIA neck - they won't fit. Otherwise you'd replace the hardware and have a guitar better then their top of line and cheaper.
I brought a kit to replace my Xbox One joysticks, realised (before buying anything) that they released 4 different kinds of controller. Had to find sticks that fit into my specific model.
Its laughable but not surprising to realise he has never had to do any sort of repairs at all. Building a PC is like lego for adults (nothing wrong with lego, just example) - he still couldn't do that. It's always great seeing a fully grown adult learning things people figure out in early teens or early twenties.

You're telling me you can't spend less than ⅓ of the tips from tonight to grab you a new lever and buttons? DSP can buy a Sanwa JLF replacement, just the lever, ball top and actuators. One of the top of the line companies that make proven, quality products... For 28 bucks.

I watched that video a couple of times and I'm not sure if he actually broke anything. He rendered it useless but he could easily put it back the way it was presumably. He said a little silicone came off of one of the wiring harnesses but that's not a big deal. He could replace the "bad" joystick with a new one for around $30. Or did he actually end up breaking something?

DSP did not break his fightstick, they are made to be swapped out and customised, to actually break it he would have had to snap the circuit board or something. All he needs to do is by a new joystick if he doesn't like the one in his Obsidian 2 (despite it being Sanwa, which is a very good stick) and they don't cost a huge amount. But yes, DSP will start to cry that he needs a whole new fightstick even though he doesnt
